to ask Christians about dinosaurs...

This is a serious question - so I have been thinking a lot lately about whether God exists, the meaning of life and why is the world in such a terrible state... been thinking about going to church but still feel I am on the fence. One question which has really got me thinking (after watching dear old David Attenborough... ) is where do dinosaurs fit into all this. Sorry if this sounds very weird but I would love to hear an explanation!

Why do you think I want anything?

Other than to discuss religious beliefs and why people hold them.

I didnt realise I had to have a permission slip?

You’re not discussing anything though, you’re ridiculing.

Isaac Newton wrote a brilliant book expressing the hope that the thinking person would believe in a creator. When he discovered gravity he could have said "I've got a law that explains it" therefore I don't need God. But no, his additional knowledge INCREASED his faith in God.

Wow! I love this. A lot of scientists are Christians for this exact reason. Do you know where I can find this book? ) Is it available online, do you know? I'm abroad so can't buy a lot of stuff here (and international deliveries fairly often don't arrive at all)

Is girlmom21 invisible?!

Am I having a psychotic episode and no one has told me?

Are they god?!

girlmom21 said earlier that she wasn’t a Christian, so I’m not sure who it is that you are arguing with with all this “how dare you call my deeply-held beliefs about Vimto stupid” stuff, but like I said you seem to be having fun there so crack on.

Topgub · 30/04/2022 13:34

I'm not sure why my interaction with someone who isn't you is annoying you so much. Or what their religious identity has to do with anything

GoldenOmber · 30/04/2022 13:40

I can pretend to be annoyed if you’d prefer? You seem to really want someone to be all shocked and offended and indignant.

Bluerose77 · 30/04/2022 13:46

Wow! I love this. A lot of scientists are Christians for this exact reason.

Exactly. The astro physicist Dr. Hugh Ross said... "" It's the fine tuning, and the more you learn about nature, the more you'll see see for the evidence of God.".

It was through his astronomy that (like so many others) came to believe in God.

Why do religious beliefs have to be respected?

Its more about being tolerant and respectful of views that are different to yours.

Topgub · 30/04/2022 13:57

Am I?

It was said it was ok to question and challenge.

If you see that as ridiculing then thats your problem

Topgub · 30/04/2022 13:59

Not really. I just like a decent discussion about beliefs. Nothing I've said indicates I want shock or indignant.

You on the other hand...

Yes, you got me, I am clearly looking to shock people.

Religion 101 "Thou shall not question" , "If all else fails accuse of ridicule" 😊

Weird.

Topgub · 30/04/2022 14:14

Wow thanks for the compliment it's been a very long time since I was called a teen, but thanks for proving my point.

I m not religious but i find evolution as crazy as the creation story.

I mean out of thin air (where did the planet come from in the first place?) the earth evolved to have a lovely atmosphere, good supplies of fresh water, fish, temperate climate, so handy for growing veg and for an abundance of animals that we love eating to exist too.... and on top of all that, we just happened to evolve from a primeval soup into a totally unique species to take advantage of all this......

So i suspect that in a few 100 years time (unless Putin ends it all) they'll be new theories, just as there always has been.....

No one has a clue where we came from but of course Dinosaurs existed, even the bible says something about Giants walked the earth.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/04/2022 14:27

Edgy teen atheist isn't a number, it's a state of mind.😉

Bluerose77 · 30/04/2022 14:29

Why do religious beliefs have to be respected?

By that do you mean all religious beliefs or just Christianity.

Yes fair point

girlmom21 · 30/04/2022 14:41

Am I God?

This thread is batshit. It's funny that almost all of the Christian's contributing are completely rational and it's the people who feel the need to prove they're non-believers that are coming out with extreme nonsense.

Add to that the impossible odds of the sun and moon to be perfectly aligned for life to be possible on earth.......

That's your opinion and your welcome to it, but it does not make it universally true 🤯

"For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak, as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theoglogians who have been sitting there for centuries."

Ah, but we only find it so perfect for us to live here because we evolved to the conditions we had. It’s the right temperature for us because we evolved to suit the temperature we had; the fish are good for us to eat because we evolved to make the best use of our available food sources; and so on.

Maybe there’s some other planet somewhere with seas of liquid mercury and an atmosphere of pure helium, where the inhabitants think our world has such brutal conditions life could never exist.

What kind of souls sentient aliens have is a whole other religious question of course…
