AIBU to be a bit peed off about the new all inclusive drinking rule in Spain?

Don’t want to come across a raging alcoholic but we’ve booked an all inclusive holiday (costing about £7.5k) for me DH and 4 DC and am peed off to see you can now only have 3 alcoholic drinks with lunch and three with dinner. I know six seems a lot but it’s more about being told when you can have them and how many you can have at a given time. We’ve been to this place before (Majorca) and used to enjoy lazy afternoons sipping a beer or three by the pool. Doesn’t seem like ‘all inclusive’ anymore and we’re paying thousands for the bloody thing!

I would think 6 alcoholic drinks in a day is plenty! Maybe I’m just a lightweight 😁

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:34

@nearlyspringyay
They're not free, they've paid for them in the package. Snob.

Not paying for incredibly expensive holidays and demanding a limitless supply of booze makes me a 'snob'? OK.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 29/04/2022 17:35

I need to read the details. I would rarely have 6 drinks in a day, maybe a spirtizer with lunch, a cocktail while getting ready for dinner, wine with dinner and 1 or 2 cocktails while watching a show. So less than 6 but I like them spread out throughout the day so I’m disappointed in this rule.

SockFluffInTheBath · 29/04/2022 17:36

Thinking about it we went AI at a nice Spanish hotel a couple of years ago and were only allowed 3 drinks in the evening. The cocktails were strong though, really strong, and 2 was more than enough for me! 😂

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:34

@ReadyToMoveIt
Bollocks. People book an AI holiday because it is all inclusive. If conditions are later imposed on this, after booking, then they are entitled to feel a bit peeved.
Honestly, you just sound like a cock. Some people like to lie by a pool with a cocktail for 2 weeks, and so what? I’m sure your particular type of holiday doesn’t make you a better (and definitely not a nicer) person.

Apart from the fact that this rule has evidently been in place for ages, can you really not imagine any reason that the companies might have decided to impose this terribly harsh rule of "only" six free alcoholic drinks per person per day?

It’s entirely irrelevant what their reasons are. They can impose whatever conditions they want on a service they offer. As I said above, if the conditions were imposed after booking, people are entitled to be pissed off. If the rule was already in the terms and conditions at the time of booking, then it is what it is.
You are the one who felt the need to criticise other people’s choice of holiday/activities. I don’t give a shit what other people do with their free time.

Georgyporky · 29/04/2022 17:37

Did the tour company make this clear when you booked?

I'd be looking for refund/compensation if they didn't tell you that AI doesn't mean AI.

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:37

@Waxonwaxoff0
The point of all inclusive is that it's UNLIMITED.

So until they brought in this new rule, you could literally drink any number of whatever drinks you wanted, 24 hours a day? 20 bottles of champagne a day each? The most expensive vodka and rum and gin available? There were no restrictions whatsoever?

For what it's worth a bottle of the cheapest vodka in a Spanish supermarket is about 10 euros. So I somehow doubt this is going to ruin the plans of those who just want to drink from morning til night.

LolaLouLou · 29/04/2022 17:37

As other people have said on the thread, drinks are really watered down on AI resorts. I think it is the restrictions on when you can drink would bother me. Having a late afternoon drink by the pool is a real treat.

WeCouldBeSpearows · 29/04/2022 17:37

I can't think of any reason that anyone would want to pay in advance to stay in one place for their entire holiday eating whatever crap food that place serves up

I'm sorry that you struggle to understand people that don't make the same choices that you would. Given that you are presumably an adult, it's maybe something you'll always have difficulty with. Must be tricky. 💐

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 29/04/2022 17:38

@AProperStinging that's some superiority complex you've got going there. How much extra do you have to pay to carry that level of smug with you when you go on holiday?

Sparkliop · 29/04/2022 17:39

Well Taken from two of the top travel agents and all the others are the same, so stop blaming any one else other than yourselves, take some responsibility for your own booking.

Are all all-inclusive resorts the same?

The simple answer is no. If all-inclusive resorts under the same brand umbrella are to be considered, then a lot of the inclusions are likely to be similar, but overall, not all all-inclusive resorts are the same. Always make sure to double-check what’s included before you make a booking.

WHAT DRINKS ARE INCLUDED WITH AN ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAY?

Most of our All Inclusive holidays include soft drinks, as well as alcoholic drinks like beer, wine, and local spirits, as standard. But what you get changes from hotel to hotel, so you should always check what’s on offer before you book.

BlitheRobin · 29/04/2022 17:39

worraliberty · 29/04/2022 16:44

The people who say they couldn't drink six alcoholic drinks in a day, probably have no idea how weak all inclusive alcoholic drinks are.

I'm a complete lightweight and yet I could easily drink 6 rum and cokes in any AI I've been to, without feeling little more than tipsy. Had I drank them in a bar outside of the hotel, I'd be absolutely floored!

That doesn't sound great, Worra 😉

That can't be high quality all inclusive? I'm told they do exist.

PennyRoyal · 29/04/2022 17:39

CaveMum · 29/04/2022 17:15

The restriction only affects certain resorts, it’s not a blanket rule across the whole of the Balearic Islands.

The affected areas are: Magalluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Mallorca and Sant Antoni in Ibiza.

This! It only applies to some hotels within these regions. It's NOT all the Balearics. Check to see.

Wheniruletheworld · 29/04/2022 17:40

Where are the DCs while you are whiling away the afternoon with a drink or three...

TargusEasting · 29/04/2022 17:41

Well it is £10,000 in Cornwall, you have to buy all the drinks and it rains. 😂

Depends on the star rating of the hotel usually. Some only offer local branded spirits in the AI package. Some offer premium spirits. Ikos resorts in Greece are completely limitless, you can have whatever you want even if it's not on the menu but you pay a premium for that.

In the pool.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 29/04/2022 17:42

Giveaschitt · 29/04/2022 16:42

It's also only very specific areas in the balearics - so it looks like Magaluf, El Arenal, Playa de Palma in Majorca and then Sant Antoni in Ibiza. So if you're not going there, the rules don't apply.

Thank you. I’ve just found the details, no this won’t effect us. It’s such a shame that this needs to brought it but I understand why Spanish government feels the need.

I’d guess they’re playing in the pool, reading a book, listening to music, playing on a device in the sun… the normal things that kids do on holiday Confused

My holidays cost a fraction of the prices I see quoted casually on threads here. A small fraction.

CounsellorTroi · 29/04/2022 17:43

2Rebecca · 29/04/2022 16:29

I think it's a good thing. AI encourages excess drinking just because it is free

We go on all inclusive cruises. Can’t remember anyone falling down drunk.

Bretonbear · 29/04/2022 17:44

Whammyyammy · 29/04/2022 16:23

I'd be amazed if I could drink 6 drinks. If it helps prevent boozed up stereotypical brits... Great idea

That is just you though. Other people enjoy a drink by the pool, with lunch, with dinner etc. and most people can act normally and not 'boozed up'. People are on holiday. It's not the great idea that it is for you for everyone.

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:44

It doesn't sound like those will be affected anyway. But as I say, you could always just buy a bottle of dirt cheap spirits in the local supermarket if that was an issue. I think the people who are put off by this rule are probably exactly the people that they're hoping to put off.

Firelogbridge · 29/04/2022 17:45

In my experience 6 beers in All Inclusive are not the same as here. The glasses you're given are 1/3 pint glasses and the wine glasses are tiny.

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:47

WeCouldBeSpearows · 29/04/2022 17:37

Did it make you feel very happy to cut out the rest of my post in order to make your unpleasant personal dig?

What I said (for anyone else, you clearly have your own agenda) was that I personally can't understand why anyone would make that choice, but if they HAVE made that choice and handed over that level of control to someone else, then part of it is inevitably going to mean not having the normal level of independence and freedom that you would have otherwise.

And if that includes them restricting free drinks to a certain number per day, that seem reasonable enough to me. I'm a big drinker, I'd probably top that up, but I wouldn't complain that my freedom was limited when I had paid for exactly that.
