AIBU to be a bit peed off about the new all inclusive drinking rule in Spain?

Don’t want to come across a raging alcoholic but we’ve booked an all inclusive holiday (costing about £7.5k) for me DH and 4 DC and am peed off to see you can now only have 3 alcoholic drinks with lunch and three with dinner. I know six seems a lot but it’s more about being told when you can have them and how many you can have at a given time. We’ve been to this place before (Majorca) and used to enjoy lazy afternoons sipping a beer or three by the pool. Doesn’t seem like ‘all inclusive’ anymore and we’re paying thousands for the bloody thing!

It’s a waste of time

the young party people they’re trying to target don’t go all inclusive as they don’t want to stay in the hotel

they want to be down the strip in and out if bars etc so it’s hitting families most

Maybe the Spaniards have had enough of 'boozy brits' drinking all day until they need hospital treatment.
Countless daytime shows have shown how Spain has had to deal with drunken brits.

Because daytime TV programmes designed to shock and entertain are what we should all use as our source of news 🙄.
And limiting drinks at AI resorts won’t stop holiday makers getting pissed and causing trouble. Those people don’t tend to holiday in AI hotels.

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/04/2022 17:23

We don’t do AI we’re not big drinkers so it’s never been worth our while. However I’ve been aware of this issue hovering about, but I think it’s VERY sharp practice on the part of the holiday companies still selling AI but with these restrictions coming in

Felix0204 · 29/04/2022 17:23

YANBU try to change your hotel or destination. I will say I went to Cuba last year on AI I've been many times and the drunkenness from Brits last year was shocking. There was a lady with her fanny out at a family pool party. I had to help her back to the room. Horrible

@Waxonwaxoff0
We go on day trips a couple of times, usually with lunch at local restaurants. Still book AI.

In one or two weeks, you leave the resort twice? 😟

Oh FFS, stop slagging off of other peoples choice of holiday. It doesn’t make you look like a better person, it just makes you look like a knob.
I’ve never been AI but I can see why it would appeal. People don’t have to go on holiday for sightseeing and exploring, it’s perfectly ok to want to chill out by a pool in the sun for a week or two.

LowlandLucky · 29/04/2022 17:25

I am the boring type and always insisted that either myself or Husband was stone cold sober when we had our children, why don't you take it in turns, that way one can have 6 at lunch and one have 6 at dinner.

Not just hotels though is it, the law also bans happy hours and says party boats can no longer advertise in the three areas or pick up or drop off tourists there.
Alcohol vending machines, free bars and adverts for alcoholic drinks are also forbidden, while authorities say shops selling alcohol must close from 21:30 to 08:00 (20:30 to 07:00 GMT).

The new regulations have also outlawed "balconing", where people jump from hotel balconies, often into swimming pools. The practice has been linked to a number of tourist deaths and injuries. Authorities said those caught taking part in the activity would now be forced to leave their hotel and could face fines.

Why would anyone do that? Why would anyone pay twice for the same meal?

Honestly, I think some people are being deliberately obtuse today.

You honestly can't think of any reasons at all why someone might chose to eat elsewhere, despite having paid a higher price to enable them to eat every meal at the hotel should they want to?

I can't think of any reason that anyone would want to pay in advance to stay in one place for their entire holiday eating whatever crap that place serves up.

Given that they have made that choice, I think it would be even more bizarre to then do what you might reasonably expect to do on holiday, and.. you know... go somewhere else.

Why pay for something and then pay again? Perhaps I'm just not super-rich enough to understand.

The entire purpose of this thread is people who book this kind of holiday complaining that their choices are in soke way limited.

Of course they are. That's what happens if you delegate every aspect of your life to some third party.

If you want a normal adult level of choice and freedom, including how much and when you drink, then you take a normal adult level of responsibility and independence.

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:28

*in some way limited

I think it's a good thing. AI encourages excess drinking just because it is free

I agree. Why would anyone want more than six drinks a day?

But it is restrictive to say when people can have them.

Funkyslippers · 29/04/2022 17:28

saw the fail article sorry but its all the alkies that have ruined it for everyone else-bet the hotel staff were fed up of all the brawling
Alkies?? People who drink a bit more on holiday shouldn't be described as "alkies"!!!

And to whoever asked why anyone would go AI to Spain - we've had lots of lovely AI holidays there as a family. The food on the whole has been really good quality and has really helped my DDs in trying food they wouldn't normally try and therefore less fussy

ImInStealthMode · 29/04/2022 17:29

Why would anyone do that? Why would anyone pay twice for the same meal?

We went half board in Majorca last year because the difference in price from BB was £23 each for 7 days. We ate in 3 times and out 4 times and still saved a fortune vs eating out 7 times.

PPs are correct, this only applies to certain resorts and was brought in early 2020 (but discussed and publicised 2019).

No, we leave the resort more than that, but we're always back in the evening for the evening meal and entertainment.

Anyway, even if I stayed on the resort the entire time, what's it to you? My son would be happy in the pool all day to be honest. Stop being such a snob, it's none of your concern how other people choose to spend a holiday that THEY paid for.

Bollocks. People book an AI holiday because it is all inclusive. If conditions are later imposed on this, after booking, then they are entitled to feel a bit peeved.
Honestly, you just sound like a cock. Some people like to lie by a pool with a cocktail for 2 weeks, and so what? I’m sure your particular type of holiday doesn’t make you a better (and definitely not a nicer) person.

I'd be amazed if I could drink 6 drinks. If it helps prevent boozed up stereotypical brits... Great idea

Absolutely agree!

You're just making yourself sound pompous.

nearlyspringyay · 29/04/2022 17:31

It's certain resorts in certain areas. I'd be losses off to pay AI prices for six watered down acid inducing drinks. That's not AI.

PrincessPaws · 29/04/2022 17:31

Drink or two in the afternoon, cocktail before dinner, couple of glasses of wine with dinner. Digestif. Do people really need more? Six sounds ample.

Now get rid of all of those apart from the glasses of wine with dinner, because it also dictates that you can have up to 3 with lunch and up to 3 with dinner. That's what would annoy me most, not the limit on the number but not being able to have the couple in the afternoon etc

AProperStinging · 29/04/2022 17:31

I don't give a toss. It has no impact on me. But people on this thread are complaining that they only get six free drinks a day. They seem to think that the main point of 'all inclusive' is that they can drink themselves senseless without paying any extra money for it. Presumably that's not what you and your son are going for.

artisanbread · 29/04/2022 17:32

The fact is that people have booked, paid, then had the terms significantly changed after booking.

I don't know much about AI but had a look at the Tui website out of interest. Some of the AIs on Magaluf show that only a limited number of alcoholic drinks are included but others suggest that, eh cocktails are available all day. I think if it wasn't clear on the website before booking people would have reason to complain.

They're not free, they've paid for them in the package. Snob.

And us single parents should just never have a drink?

Apart from the fact that this rule has evidently been in place for ages, can you really not imagine any reason that the companies might have decided to impose this terribly harsh rule of "only" six free alcoholic drinks per person per day?

The point of all inclusive is that it's UNLIMITED.
