Can you get pregnant with one tube?

Hi everyone,

I've recently stressed my fears on mumsnet that I'm likely to be unable to get pregnant naturally due to potential hydrosalpinx on one tube. Im pretty sure I am going to end up losing at least one of my tubes. I'm having a laparoscopy at some point to determine and hsg.

I also have endometriosis, but from what I've been told it is pointing to it being mild endo.

My question is.. can you get pregnant naturally with one Fallopian tube? I'm terrified that if I do manage to keep a tube that it will be so difficult to get pregnant naturally.

Thank you xx

I went on to have two children after I lost a Fallopian tube due to a ruptured eptopic. That was after a sterilisation reversal too.

Can I just clarify why you think you’re going to lose a tube? I understand the exploratory keyhole surgery (been there) and HSG, but if you have a HSG and the tube isn’t functioning, I’m not sure why they’d remove it? I’m not trying to disbelieve you or be a jerk btw, I’m sincerely curious as to who has told you that. In my experience they only remove a tube if it’s ruptured (ectopic) or the ovary on that side needs to be removed (cancer, cysts etc). I’m not a doctor just curious as to what’s going on that they’ve said That!

PS. lost a tube, conceived easily, miscarried unfortunately. But can still conceive when I’m ready to try again. Sadly have pcos which was badly out of control (borderline. t2 diabetes and obese) which increases miscarriage risk. Not tube related at all.

Your remaining tube floats from one ovary to another. So you'll ovulate in the same manner. So a chance every month etc. give it a Google it's so interesting

My friend had something a bit wrong with one tube (can't remember what it was) and lost her healthy tube to an ectopic pregnancy but she had a baby afterwards.

One of my best friends lost a tube to ectopic pregnancy then went on to have 4 more babies all in close succession.

Yes lost left tube due to a lost twin pregnancy, one twin was ectopic. Conceived 5 times afterwards with little difficulty, and 3 children as a result!

@QueenOfHell669

Yes of course,
So if my tube is confirmed hydrosalpinx and the liquid can't be cleared during either hsg or the laparoscopy (which it often can't from what I've read online). The fluid in the tube is toxic and 'drips' into your uterus causing a poisonous environment for any embryos to implant. So even if I conceived through the other tube (provided it's fine which I also don't know yet), I'm likely to miscarry or not implant at all. If I conceive through the suspected hydrosalpinx tube, it's likely to get stuck in that tube in the toxic fluid and be ectopic.

If I then could only conceive through ivf they need to remove the hydrosalpinx or it results in failure again even though it bypasses my tubes.

Hope this makes sense 💜

Obviously I'm hoping I don't have hydrosalpinx and my endo isn't bad but my suspected hydrosalpinx was seen on an mri which I think is quite hard to dispute :(

I lost a tube due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. I went on to get pregnant twice after that.

@ivfscared hope you don’t mind me commenting I just wanted to check what your outcome was? It has been confirmed this week I have a blocked left tube with fluid in which is likely hydrosalpinx did you have a laparoscopy and have your tube removed ? We have been ttc for 17 months and now I feel like this is why it hasn’t happened sooner and really want it sorted

My late mother who died 5 years ago aged 92 had an ectopic pregnancy in around 1946 and after a few years adopted my eldest brother.

Needless to say she subsequently went on to give birth to four children, the last at aged 42. Smile
