Being accused of abusing his power over a number of years against black women.

He was an old man compared the the ages of some the accusers.

Apparently rumours have circulated for some time but this has come out due to a documentary.

No doubt there will be others that also allege this wrongdoing.

Disappointed to see yet another story of a man with a bit of power using it for his own gain.

I worked with him very briefly back in 2007/8. From what I saw back then, I am not in the least bit surprised.

I know for a fact that there have been journalists working on this story and trying to get it legally watertight enough to publish for at least two years if not longer.

I’m so glad their hard work has paid off.

Global / CapitalXtra deliberately hushed up allegations from 2019 in 2020 www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/tim-westwood-global-media_uk_5ef4b06fc5b615e5cd3a1ce3?utm_campaign=share_twitter&ncid=engmodushpmg00000004

How on earth can you make this about the BBC? None of these women made a complaint at the time. Are the BBC meant to be psychic?

I personally saw him, with barely legal girls in tow, in a studio on BBC property, surrounded by BBC staff.

The BBC fucking knew allllll about it.

Leftbutcameback · 26/04/2022 22:46

Hadn’t heard the rumours before, but what these women / girls have reported is horrific. Same old story of a man abusing his position - when is this going to stop? I ask that rhetorically knowing that it never will.

I’m pleased for his victims that they are able to tell their truth and get some justice soon. They are brave women.

its not the kind of music I listen to through choice but I do hear misogynistic language when it’s on at the gym etc. that makes me feel uncomfortable.

Leftbutcameback · 26/04/2022 22:50

Really good point @LidlMissSunshine - excellent journalism and grateful that they’ve worked hard on this. Not the same I know (and off topic) but the Post Office scandal is another example of why we need investigative journalists to hold people to account.

userxx · 26/04/2022 22:59

I hadn't heard the rumours, not surprised though, sadly I don't get surprised anymore.

TitsInAbsentia · 26/04/2022 23:11

The only way to stop this shit happening is to make it an offence for people to knowingly cover up/ignore what's going on under their noses, and a further offence if they try to keep a victim quite. I'm so sick of this shit and these utterly disgusting people who keep getting away with it.

Palmfrond · 26/04/2022 23:15

I never understood how he got that job. Whatever his knowledge of the music, I could never get round how Radio 1 could employ someone in such a prominent role with such bizarrely affected speech. He sounded like Prince Charles doing a bad American accent.
No huge surprise about the allegations, and I wonder which DJ will be next?

earsup · 26/04/2022 23:21

Dressing like a teen with that stupid accent.....twat....reminds me of that other stupid dj...fatboy blob or whatever he calls himself....middle aged with beer gut....twat.

It's not actually illegal to have younger girlfriend, even a lot of them, if they are over the age of consent.

We are well past the days when we expected public figures to maintain a squeaky clean image. Maybe we shouldn't be, but that ship seems to have long sailed.

It's not about girlfriends. It's about him being a sexual predator and and rapist Hmm

It's illegal to indecently expose yourself to or sexually assault anyone of any age. That's what he's being accused of, not just having 'girlfriends' ffs.

I'm baffled that dismissing the additionally predatory behaviour of selecting victims who happen to be much younger is your chosen response to this story.

Why the fuck is this thread full of ads for the sun? (nothing to do with my search history, for a start)

littlefoot20 · 27/04/2022 00:13

I remember him coming to my uni early 00’s and trying it on with my friend (yes, a young black female).

TruthHertz · 27/04/2022 00:16

So black people speak a certain way????

Some do. I've got two Jamaican British mates and they speak in a very particular dialect. Other black people will speak in different ways depending on their cultural heritage just like most Scottish people speak differently from the English.

So you saw him and knew he was up to something dodgy? Who did you report it to?

Opaljewel · 26/04/2022 18:25

You know what I hate about this kind of stuff... he hasn't even been in a trial for it yet. Yet you're all acting like he's guilty already... trial by media.

Hope you're never on a jury.

Do you think Jimmy Saville's been hard done by because he didn't live to stand trial?

“We are well beyond the days...”

Those days never existed, powerful men have been getting away with dodgy behaviour for ever. And we are talking about assault, not girlfriends (as many pp pointed out)

pedropony76 · 27/04/2022 08:56

So you saw him and knew he was up to something dodgy? Who did you report it to?

Who are you meant to report it too? @ZeroCaffeine I remember one time when Tim Westwood AND his team were taking names of girls, what year uni they were in, their halls of residence and their mobile number. They always preferred girls who were in first year. Who exactly were we meant to report that too? Even when you’d be in the rave and he’d try touching you, kissing you, you just brushed it off but made a mental note to not be around him. He’s sooo creepy and definitely loves uni’s in the midlands for a specific reason

seasaltandsunscreen · 26/04/2022 16:18

He is a champion of hip hop / rap / Rnb music and has been for many years, and his work is intrinsically linked to that culture.

He is also a twat to women.

The two are mutually exclusive.

The two are directly related.

He used his position as an upper middle class white man with influence to exploit and abuse young black women knowing that if any of them complained they were the group who would not be believed.

Young, black and mostly working class against Mr Establishment? They never had a chance. His peers at the BBC and other organisations enabling him are equally culpable with their faux shock horror.

IcedPurple · 27/04/2022 12:16

Bill Murray and now him.

So many famous men are complete sleazes.

Kind of raises the unsettling question as to how many 'ordinary' men would be the same if they thought they were powerful enough to get away with it.

menaredis · 27/04/2022 12:18

It's disappointing isn't it. It's always men. The sexual harassment, abuse, power over women. Even taking it to the extreme but in the murder cases of women. It's always (mostly) by a man.

OP posts:
IcedPurple · 27/04/2022 12:20

Yes, somehow women, including very powerful women, almost always manage to get through their working lives without groping young men. Why can't men also learn to keep their hands to themselves?

These are not girlfriends, they are victims of sexual abuse.
