Tim Westwood

Being accused of abusing his power over a number of years against black women.

He was an old man compared the the ages of some the accusers.

Apparently rumours have circulated for some time but this has come out due to a documentary.

No doubt there will be others that also allege this wrongdoing.

Disappointed to see yet another story of a man with a bit of power using it for his own gain.

OP posts:

What’s the documentary on? I’ve never gone to a Tim Westwood show, he’s not my cup of tea despite being a fan of rap/hip hop.
The girls who have come forward are very brave and I hope he is brought to justice swiftly.

I am however, a huge fan of David Rodigan. Can anyone in the industry confirm there’s no rumours about him?

josil · 26/04/2022 20:25

Looking forward to watching it OP - apparently it's on iplayer already before it airs tonight.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I hope all these allegations of men in power make men stop and think moving forward they cannot get away with this BS anymore

VladmirsPoutine · 26/04/2022 20:26

Cheryl Cole making an R&B podcast is akin to the seriousness with which one should take Jacob Rees Mogg talking about the benefits of socialism. It's just utterly ridiculous. Apart from anything else a traffic bollard has more musical talent than she does.

Having said that, the rumours about Westwood have about for years. But when it's black girls who are already over sexualised and adultified from a young age then nobody gives a shit.

Minimalme · 26/04/2022 20:32

It is very sad that yet again, the BBC have chosen to tolerate and hide an abuser.

I had no idea about these rumours but I used to find him impossible to listen to.

Everything about him came across as fake and I can't stand liars.

Peachtoiletpaper · 26/04/2022 20:32

Really brave of the women coming forward. His MO was so creepy and entitled- catch them by surprise with some crude act and take advantage while they were in 'freeze' mode. Sickening.

pedropony76 · 26/04/2022 20:36

Yep, really no surprise there tbh

Nogreenfingers83 · 26/04/2022 20:40

Can anyone explain why, in the news report of this, they described an alleged incident where he forced himself on a girl by using the words "then he had sex with her", and the headline was that he's been accused of "sexual misconduct". Why is the word rape not used? Is sex without consent no longer rape?!

Gilesgoesformiles · 26/04/2022 20:43

I used to work in the music industry and everyone knew he was a creep. I met him briefly once and he was groping the hired models then so none of this, sadly surprises me. Cunt

Upupupintheair · 26/04/2022 20:45

I worked in a club that he DJ’ed in fairly regularly in the early 2010s…

not surprised at all, he’d throw condoms out into the crowd and some of the things he used to say about women were horrific.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/04/2022 20:20

He adopted a manner of speech entirely inconsistent with a middleaged white man from East Anglia who went to private and whose Dad was the Bishop of Peterborough.

The offensive thing is not remarking upon this, it's that he chose to alter his speech in a way that mimics his perception of how people who are not of the same ethnicity as he is and largely don't even live in the same country, speak. A longstanding impersonation of somebody he created in his own mind, effectively, complete with accent, mannerisms, vernacular and rhythm/tone - completely unrepresentative of anything but a posh white man's idea of what people sound like.

The only thing he missed from this poor taste pastiche is makeup and a wig.

I've always been under the impression it was a inner city london type accent het put on

I've lived in London for a very, very long time. I have never heard anybody, let alone a posh old white bloke who everybody knew was an utter sleaze, sound anything like him.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/04/2022 20:54

The way he speaks is known as a 'blaccent' - you'll actually if you stop to look around find many many famous people who speak like this. My favourite is Ariana Grande.

TheSillyMastiff · 26/04/2022 21:01

I was a young teen when I first saw him on pimp my ride and he gave me the instant creeps, I didn't like him at all.

I remember saying to my mum "that man is creepy" and she replied "yes, hold on to that gut feeling of yours" she obviously must have known more than 13 year old me.

timestheyarechanging · 26/04/2022 21:05

I used to know him and party with him 30 odd years ago. He was a bit of a knob and loved himself but I never saw or heard of any actions of abuse towards women.
I just used to ask him why he spoke like he did when he's from Suffolk, not the Bronx. Haven't seen him for over 20 years though.
My partner knew him too and is surprised at the accusations.

That definitely isn’t the case. What inner city London accent makes you scream ‘WARGWURN’ uncontrollably and unnecessarily?? I don’t know if he wants to be black or overdoes it to relate to the black community but either way it’s cringe as fuck

timestheyarechanging · 26/04/2022 21:19

Oh, he is 14 yrs older than me and I was about 16/17 when I met him at the Mud Club with the lovely Mark Moore

Tbh I rarely listened to his show.and never heard him say things like that.

But fair enough

You see, I don’t understand this. Did you listen to ‘Me and R&B’ or just read the headlines? It was not Cheryl Cole pretending to to be any kind of expert or have any cultural associations, it was more about ‘I like R&B and here are some of my favourites tracks and why’.

Romesh Ranganathan has a similar programme out at the moment. What do you think of that?

Pebbledashery · 26/04/2022 22:01

I don't know why anyone is surprised. Just look at him.

This really where you want to take a thread about the repeated sexual abuse of multiple women?

Why is this aimed at me? I was quoting someone else and competing on one aspect!

whumpthereitis · 26/04/2022 22:14

Yes, one aspect unrelated entirely to the fact that multiple women have come out and made statements about how he’s abused them.

But let’s focus on the important stuff, namely defending Cheryl Cole’s podcast. Or indeed talking about Cheryl fucking Cole at all.

I think I’ve messed up! Just getting frustrated by all the inane Cheryl Cole comparisons. In doing so, I’ve mentioned her myself too much!

OF COURSE the main issue is Tim Westwood! I watched the doc on iPlayer earlier and here we go again another man abusing power and influence and in plain sight. Glad the women have come forward and as OPs have said, bet it’s the tip of the iceberg.

It’s a fair point and I’m not sure but it might be because the women have chosen (quite within their rights) not to report to police. I suppose they (the journos) would be on shady ground accusing him of a serious sexual offence when it is not being investigated. I do think this may progress to a criminal investigation as more victims come forward.
Like I said though, I don’t know, it could just be poor wording from the author but I suspect their lawyers will have been proof reading the article like crazy.

Sharrowgirl · 26/04/2022 22:23

Florenz · 26/04/2022 18:52

I think this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the BBC. Most of them were at it back in the day and they were untouchable for years. And even the ones that weren't preying on young girls wouldn't jeopardise their place on the BBC gravy train by doing anything about it.

The sooner the license fee abolished and the BBC shut down, the better.

How on earth can you make this about the BBC? None of these women made a complaint at the time. Are the BBC meant to be psychic?
