To ask how quickly you lost 1 stone and how?...

So, what is the quickest timeframe you lost a stone in AND kept it off? And how???

Needing some serious inspiration and mental strength to lose a health/mental well-being impacting stone fairly quickly.

I don't want to go down a route of taking a year to lose a stone but also keep bouncing up and down with weight due to:

  • tiredness from toddler
  • lack of mental headspace some days regarding cooking a super healthy tea for myself and DH after work/toddler pick ups etc

I lost a stone by my own ' no chi diet ' 😂 no chips , no cheese no chocolate in 7 weeks . It also included no crisps and reduced alcohol .

5128gap · 27/04/2022 11:47

About 3 months, then another 4 months to lose another stone. Combination of healthy diet and lots of lockdown walks, plus the realisation I only need around 1700 calories a day rather than the generic 2000 i used think i needed. I've kept it off for over a year. The reason being it was a total lifestyle change rather than a temporary 'diet', which I've found don't give sustainable results.

Nuisancepenguin · 27/04/2022 11:57

I’ve started Slim Fast today! Don’t plan to be on it for long, but need a boot up the bum as I’ve been over eating through mental health issues. Also got several social things coming up and I’d like to feel a bit more confident. Will go to calorie counting after a stint on SlimFast. Tried SW, didn’t like the group meetings and long queue to weigh. Tried WW online and got bored quickly. So fingers crossed for SlimFast, my mum did it years ago as a temporary measure and it worked well.

Most recently 5 days and it was following the breakdown of my marriage, definitely don't recommend 🤣

Prior to that around 4/5weeks. Just be eating more sensibly and reducing portion size/cutting out snacks and drinking loads of water. Nothing extreme just having three meals and avoiding snacking in between and avoiding fizzy juice as I only drink full sugar.

katnyps · 27/04/2022 12:20

3 months. The only thing I did was stop snacks and that meant having no bread in the house (lol, easier for some than others probably!). Stuck to three meals a day similar to what I would have had before but no snacks worked. Used to have porridge or toast for breakfast, toast for 11's, cous cous or a wrap for lunch, cake mid-afternoon then a substantial dinner like spag bol. For six months I had porridge for breaky, same lunch as before, same dinner (though probably slightly smaller portions as previously I'd noticed I was getting full and kept eating) with maybe some fruit just after dinner; lost 2 stone.

WouldBeGood · 27/04/2022 13:16

@itsthesoundofthepolice the divorce diet was extremely effective for me too 😂

itsthesoundofthepolice · 27/04/2022 14:35

@WouldBeGood nothing like a but heartbreak to curb the appetite! I could've done with it last a bit longer mind you and lost another stone or3

Ive been losing well by following a group on Facebook called Pinch Of Nom.
Its based on slimming world / calorie counting.
I’ve been eating such lovely meals I can’t believe it I’ve lost a stone in five weeks and haven’t felt like I was on a diet.
There are recipes on there and they also have recipe books which I’ve bought two of but lots are on their website too.
whatever you do diet wise I just recommend drinking lots of water. It’s helped me.

I took 2 months to get from 10st 6 to 9st 6, then another 3 months for the next stone. That was using MyFitnessPal, initially eating around 1100 calories a day, usually fruit for breakfast, chicken breast & roasted veg for lunch, sandwich & salad for dinner.
I'm currently around 8st2 and have been for about 2 years, still using MFP & counting calories, though I'm now up to eating around 1700 calories with about 300 calories exercise (20m on crosstrainer, plus 4km walk daily)

You've all done so amazing. Thank you for the tips.

I'm finding it really hard and it's starting to affect me emotionally now, which it hasn't before.

I'm sluggish and tired (probably the carbs) but sometimes I'm so tired after work and making the toddler food/doing evening routine with her and DH that I just decide to do something quick and comfort and then it spirals. It's my own fault and my own lack of willpower!

I feel like I need a huge reset for the next 2/3 weeks to get back on track. But I want to still eat sweet things. Someone mentioned a flambé pineapple dish on another thread and I wonder if I could have that for breakfast. I don't eat eggs as DD is very allergic so we just don't have them in. I don't really like salad as I find myself hungry within an hour no matter how large the salad.

I need to get a grip and make a plan!

The Lidl protein puddings make a great breakfast , especially with chopped banana, and they’re very filling. Chocolate or vanilla.

Thin bagels are good with light soft cheese and/or bacon medallions or turkey rashers.

a small tin of tuna with wee bit of light Mayo, salsa and peppers and sweetcorn in a pitta is tasty and filling.

For dinner the other night I made prawns just with hot chilli pesto (again, a small amount is needed as it’s spicy!), spinach, and spaghetti. Just weigh the pasta. DS and I think 65g pp is perfect.

And don’t stress, you sound like you have a lot on. Just make small changes and you’ll feel better.

Personally I don't find carbs a problem. I'm keeping my 2 stone off, am size 6-8 with very little belly fat, 24" waist and bags of energy despite being 50s, and I eat loads of carbs. I avoid processed carbs, so any white ones basically, but there is no way I'd manage without wholegrain bread, rice and pasta, I'd be constantly hungry. For me it was cutting animal products that was the game changer, and switching to cooking from scratch using whole foods.

buckleten · 28/04/2022 09:21

Porridge is good for something filling and I sometimes have it in place of lunch or dinner

GalactatingGoddess · 28/04/2022 10:30

@5128gap yes perhaps I need to shake up the type of carbs rather than actual carbs full stop. As I've been eating a lot of white processed carbs - thanks for the tip

I do eat carbs but only brown/Wholemeal bread pasta or rice and small portions of them. I can’t manage well without them either.

TuxedoJunction · 29/04/2022 10:18

My weight always comes off by cutting out the following - wheat based foods (bread/pasta/cakes), red meat and potatoes.

I find that my body doesn’t process any of them well. I just make sure I eat rice, sweet potatoes, chicken/fish and soya products - plus vegetables and fruit.

Everyone’s different though, you just need to find what works for you and stick to it for at least a month. 😊
