To ask how quickly you lost 1 stone and how?...

GalactatingGoddess · 26/04/2022 13:01

So, what is the quickest timeframe you lost a stone in AND kept it off? And how???

Needing some serious inspiration and mental strength to lose a health/mental well-being impacting stone fairly quickly.

I don't want to go down a route of taking a year to lose a stone but also keep bouncing up and down with weight due to:

  • tiredness from toddler
  • lack of mental headspace some days regarding cooking a super healthy tea for myself and DH after work/toddler pick ups etc

I lost 1 stone in 2 weeks last year by replacing two meals per day with a Slimfast shake and then having a small, low calorie dinner. Definitely was fast results and it was nice seeing the weight come off but I felt awful generally and the milkshakes have a disgusting texture that make me feel sick 😬

runnerbeany · 26/04/2022 16:09

@GalactatingGoddess the weight loss was pre-baby. But I do still walk 5-10 miles most days, with the buggy. I walk reasonably fast, about 4mph, so it doesn't take long. I am on mat leave though so I don't have to fit in a job too!

TheStarofCountyDown · 26/04/2022 16:41

@gwenneh I'm following a very similar path. Are you following No BS/Corrine by any chance?
I want to lose my weight the way I want to live my life: no food off limits; no crank diets etc etc. I have lost 6 pounds in 4 weeks but "only" have 1.5 stone to lose in total.
I plan my food for the day, eat when hungry, stop when satisfied. Drink plenty of water. Sleep well. No foods (or drinks!) are off limits but they must be planned. I've realised I need to address my thinking around food and not set rules about food itself.

No, I'm not following anything. That implies way more thought than I'm giving any of this. It's just eat what I want, only when I'm genuinely hungry, until I'm satisfied.

The hardest parts were breaking social conventions around food (eating at set times, not throwing food away, etc.) and understanding actual hunger.

If it involved planning things in advance, then I'd never do it.

pumpkintree · 26/04/2022 17:49

If you have will power then very quickly! You give up sugar, alcohol, carbs. Exercise for 30 min each day and make sure you drink loads of water.

Basically eat better and move more.

Themadcatparade · 26/04/2022 17:55

Intermittent fasting and lowering carb intake. Not to the point you are starving don't get me wrong that's the worst thing you can do. Just limit them slightly.

I my eating window is between 12.30-6.30 each day and it works.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 26/04/2022 18:00

6 weeks
MyFitnessPal and religiously weighing and noting everything I consumed. Sticking to the carb/fat/protein ratios.

Going to the gym 4 days a week, 1 day cardio 3 days weight lifting.

I've still got half a stone to lose, but I've been struggling to shift anything else for about 3 weeks. DH (pt and doing a nutrition course) says I need to have a really bad weekend full of naughty foods and extra calories to shake up my metabolism 🤷‍♀️

pompomseverywhere · 26/04/2022 18:08

3 meals. No snacks. Lots of water.

That's my plan a d reading everyone else's with interest.

Covetthee · 26/04/2022 18:16

calorie defecit. All diets are basically a form of calorie defecit anyways but depends what you want to restrict.

i stuck to 1200 calories, some days i’d use on crap food like chips and crisps and other days i’d eat healthier

obviously eating healthier you get more food for the 1200 calories but i never felt restricted and find it pretty easy.

It took me about 3 months but thats with no exercise as i had a newborn and a toddler and it was impossible.

and now i maintain at 1500-1600 calories

Izzy24 · 26/04/2022 13:34

7 weeks. Stopped eating crap, 3 meals a day on four days of the week and nothing after lunch on 3 days a week.

Felt hungry on most of the missing meals days but kept busy, went walking, drank loads of water and went to bed early on the hungriest evenings!

Could see it was working from the end of the first week which gave me the motivation to keep going.

Ooo I might try this! Thanks Smile

GalactatingGoddess · 27/04/2022 08:18

@gwenneh that sounds like a good plan. I often find myself eating at 'meal times' even if I'm not hungry. Or pre-empting my hunger, which is not ideal.

Thank you all so much for this inspiration. I know it won't be super easy, I do love my food and I love sweet treats and truth be told, I don't want to not like sweet things. I just want to have control enough to get to a healthy weight and enjoy things in moderation.

@Tillsforthrills I will be walking and definitely doing weights once or twice a week. I need to find a 10 minute body weight routine

reeeeeeee · 27/04/2022 08:19

Give up dairy.

GalactatingGoddess · 27/04/2022 08:21

@sasparilla1 I will have a look into the Human Being Diet although I don't do well off too strict/anything low fat as I love cheese

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese there could be some truth behind that. When I did lose weight previously, if I stalled I'd have a 'naughty' weekend and then I'd miraculously be back on track. Mind you, I was 10 years younger and had much more time and sleep....

@runnerbeany ahhhhhh okay I see, I'm at work now but one day off and I do tend to do a walk that day with DD but no where near that long 🫠

@reeeeeeee I'd love to, I've cut yoghurt and milk but I can't shake cheese. It's legitimately my favourite food.

Okay but I lost 3 stone in 3 weeks doing this. I would drink 4 pints of semi-skimmed a day and eat blocks of cheese though so it was a lot to not have.

I'm telling you if you did it for a month it would be worth it weight-wise.

ItsDifferentFor · 27/04/2022 08:45

There is a some good advice above. There is no magic answer that suits all people, and you'll need to adapt some of the above to your own personality and circumstances.

All my life I'd been mid-to-higher normal range BMI with what I consider little or no effort. At start of lockdown, almost 2 years ago, I had an accident that totally upset what I "normally" did and I put on 1.5 stone, which I've lost now.

I had a commute that involved a 20 min walk, I walked every lunchtime for 20 mins to clear my head. Even though we have food at work (work in tech area) and I'd typically just pick up some snack and fruit for lunch. I did some running twice a week and played badminton twice a week. I was very active, but a knee injury has stopped all that now.

It's amazing how quickly the weight piled on. It was also clear to me that while I ate mostly healthy food I was snacking way too much, and drinking too much wine as well. With no sports activity, WFH, no walks, all those calories went elsewhere :(

It took me 6 months to lose a stone, and another 6 months to lose 1/2 stone. I've learned through that I just had to totally stop snacking, plus cut down on drink. I won't be able to run again or play badminton, but I force myself to walk every day for 5k. It's boring as hell, I don't like walking alone in the night (long time ago incident), but I try get DH to go if he is home, or just walk near where we live.

I'm in a routine now for the last year, and I'm happy with it. I'm somewhat aware of my weight since my DSis put on a lot of weight in middle age, as did my mum.

WouldBeGood · 27/04/2022 08:50

I'm losing a pound or two a week by calorie counting, and exercise including weight training and have lost well over a stone since January. It’s easy and you can eat anything, no fads. High protein keeps me full. Look at the James Smith Academy calculator to work out what your calorie limit is and log all food on my fitness pal. Things like portion sizes of pasta have been particularly helpful!

squiller · 27/04/2022 08:58

If you can get away with just not having junk food in the house, that will help. If your DH or DC enjoy eating it, maybe ask DH to hide it somewhere so you’re not tempted.

Use my fitness pal to track calories, try to stick to 1500-1600 calories a day and exercise preferably 5 times a week. I run 5km 3 times a week, do HIIT 3 times a week and yoga twice a week. Also get 15-25k steps in a day. That coupled with eating no more than 1600 calories a day has meant I’ve lost 3 stone since January 3rd. I used the couch to 5k app to get back into running. I’ve dropped 3 dress sizes and BMI has gone from obese to healthy in 3 months.

StageRage · 27/04/2022 09:09

To lose it and keep it off I lost 1lb a week by adjusting to ‘normal’ but healthier eating.

Stopped snacking on biscuits and toast etc, 1 afternoon snack only of a modest, sensible and healthy nature.

Cut down massively on alcohol

Healthy , sustaining breakfast (modest amount of granola, yogurt, berries, or porridge)

Sensible lunch (soup, eg lentil and carrot) poached egg or beans, 1 slice of toast plus salad (not slathered in dressing).

ordinary dinner, but smaller portion overall, cut down on the amount of pasta or rice, swap chips for home made dry roasted wedges, etc. Increase amount of veg.

wholemeal bread not white.

Upped my exercise. Initially just by going for brisk walks, 20 mins. Then swimming. Now gym and classes.

Sadnesser · 27/04/2022 09:12

I’ve just lost a stone in a week but I am hideously obese (I started at 20stone) so I imagine there’s a huge amount of water weight that’s come off me.

SexyPortugese · 27/04/2022 09:14

One month. Just sticking to 1300cal per day.

Glenthebattleostrich · 27/04/2022 09:14

Lost 22lb in 7 weeks on 800Keto before my holiday with 14 of that in 28 days

Went to US on holiday and ate all the carbs and had beers and cocktails. Put on 7lb but 3 of that have come off since Sunday by eating low carb, no snacks, intermittent fasting and sticking to about 1200 cals per day.

Still have 2.5 stone to lose so will do another round of 800 in June and July to get this done.

Glenthebattleostrich · 27/04/2022 09:19

Meant to add,

Eggs for breakfast with spinach or mushrooms is incredibly filling and scrambled egg in the microwave is very quick.

Omlette or soup for lunch (absolutely love mushroom soup with a few baked cheese things in as croutons)

Smaller portions of normal dinner

Eat a big green salad with lunch and dinner.

and water, drink all the water. Hot water with a slice if lemon, cold water with some berries or cucumber in it, fizzy water, herbal teas. Just tons of fluid.

incywincyspider1 · 27/04/2022 09:23

One 2 one diet- lost a stone in 2 weeks.

Silversprinkles · 27/04/2022 09:28

7 weeks. Low carb, absolutely no snacking after evening meal, gallons of water. Didn't force myself to have breakfast if I didn't feel like it, so a kind of voluntary "fast" until lunchtime on some days.

I'm peri-menopausal and have some health issues which means I can't do a lot of exercise but this worked for me.
