dd2 has been up all night with sickness & diarrehea(sp?)

She can't keep anything down atm. Seems a bit of a coincindence that we were at the gp's yesterday for dd1 2nd mmr and now dd1 is ill.

I have no one else to take dd1 to school and plus I don't want dd1 to pass any germs she may have picked up from dd2 round her class/school.

Rang the school office to let them know I wouldn't be bringing dd1(age 5) in to school and got told I should have taken her.

But I disagree, our local hopital has 3 wards closed because of the virus, I don't want to spread it round the school.

believe me, dd1 missing a day off school is the least of their worries when it comes to offstead!

dd1 has been sick a couple of times now as well as dd2.... I'm running out of clean pj's for them!

In the main, we should try to ensure our kids are in school....obviously. But I think the OP had reasonable enough grounds for keeping dd off. Kids have time off for all sorts of less valid reasons and TBH there are so many missing from my class at the moment, another one wouldn't make much difference. BTW, at our school, we have installed extra antibacterial soap dispensers and wipes for door handles etc... (which I had to trek to Wilco to buy!) to try to reduce spread of germs. And had a few demos on how to wash our hands PROPERLY. Some hope!

I can't beleive the people who are saying YABU. I am lucky in my situation as I have my Mum around the corner to either look after sick child or take the other to school but there are some situations where it is impossible.

Make friends with other mums so they can share the school run? Yeah, right, ha, ha, ha. I'd just ring the nearest of dd's schoolfriends who lives 5 miles away in the opposite direction to say, "come over here and take one of my children to school. You are working/have a pre-schooler, can't fit another one in your car/ can't walk that far. That's unreasonable, we should be helping each other out!"
