To think I am not the only one who has barely been on Mumsnet this weekend?

I am usually glue to the threads - Active, I'm On, Watching...

If I want an answer to a question, or a product review, anything from how to fix something or how to cook something or what TV to watch, I come on here to find it.

But the site in its present format is simply unworkable for me. I can't search key words, I can't see the photos, I lose track of threads.

I have probably spent ten minutes on here all weekend. AIBU to think I'm not the only one?

YANBU. I hate it now. Just trying to have a peruse now but it's so frustrating.

Until the wonderful update I had the app on my ipad mini. As soon as the website changed, the app stopped working. Now I can only use this shitty website on my phone if I want to use MN so I'm now using MN less. It's probably a good thing for me to be honest!!

Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it?

justjuggling · 25/04/2022 00:18

I'm still getting the cookies permission/consent thing on every page. Driving me nuts.

I just really wish they're reinstate the name of the OP and the time it was posted and the last poster who responded and the time that was, on the thread list.

You could tell so much at a glance from this!

YES! This is the worst thing for me (there are a lot of other annoying things). Most of us can tell pretty quickly all we need to know from that basic information. Without it, it's so bloody clunky.

Meh - things change. It’s the way of the world. I imagine that the vast majority of users will adjust to the new look in a few days.

I think the site has to be appealing to new users - so it has to look modern and appealing to the target demographic of new parents first and foremost. And I think the new update probably achieves this. If a side effect of this is that some longtime users use the site a little less, or possibly leave completely, that’s no doubt been weighed up against the need/benefit of attracting new users.

To clarify - the new design doesn’t bother me at all. I’m fine with change! Grin

the issue is that I can no longer use the site in the way I used to. Too many things are broken. The usability has gone way down.

I don't use the app - I use mobile or laptop.

I can't even search by name of poster, or by key word.

I am going to be so productive at work tomorrow Grin

If you go to the magnifying glass and start typing it opens up advanced search.

I have barely looked at mumsnet since the format update, maybe 10 minutes or so altogether. I think it’s really impersonal and ugly.

That's exactly what it is!

britneyisfree · 24/04/2022 22:22

The app seems back to normal now

On what platform? I’m still having to use the mobile site on iPhone

Cravingsweets · 25/04/2022 08:09

Am I seeing it differently from others? I just access it via the web on my android phone and this is eat I see (I only screenshotted this quote -apologies Laiste! - because it's the one that referenced large margins with a thin strip of text. I don't think I'm seeing that?). I didn't like the update, and I still prefer the old MN, but I'm slowly getting used to this, especially now that I don't have to keep logging in!

girlmom21 · 25/04/2022 08:10

Ahh I've deleted and redownloaded the app and it's worked!!!

TottersBlankly · 25/04/2022 08:10

If you go to the magnifying glass and start typing it opens up advanced search.

You say that as if it wasn’t perfectly obvious!

I appreciate the slicker structure of the new Search page (the previous calendar thing was incredibly clunky) - but unfortunately it doesn’t actually work, at least on my iphone 11. Takes one round in circles …

ImAvingOops · 25/04/2022 08:10

I was never a fan of the app and have always used to mobile version. I do still keep getting booted out and have to log back in again. Also not liking the new quote system - it just allows posters to quote whole posts continuously, so is repetitive. If you've read the thread properly then you already know the conversation and don't need to see it repeated constantly.
I do quite like the strike through function

Whinge · 25/04/2022 08:11

I've only been able to use it after installing a dark mode on my browser. Without the dark mode I can't use the site as it's too bright. I don't have a problem with any other site I use, but the harsh white of the new MN site was hurting my eyes and it was genuinely painful to use. Sad

TottersBlankly · 25/04/2022 08:15

Are you not clicking ‘Keep me logged in.’? (You need to do that before typing in your details.)

I agree the escalating nesting is a dire development. Was bad enough in the past when some fools (not all newbies, surely) quoted the full OP in the second or third post.

custardbear · 25/04/2022 08:20

There should be a platform to get messages over.
My personal problem, perhaps an iPhone issue, is I can't search as rubbish comes up that's not relevant
Not noticed any difference on my phone recently except I couldn't post so signed in again, but then saw there had been updates so assume that's why

Sirzy · 25/04/2022 08:26

Between the layout and the constant cookies message I haven’t bothered much at all.

kitchenfitting · 25/04/2022 08:27

I used to use MN for diy/property etc so photos are vital and i cant view any photos properly now despite using a desk top computer so having a big screen. Those who are not complaining about photos is it because you dont use photos or do yours view correctly?? It is making MN unusable for me.

TeenPlusCat · 25/04/2022 08:28

YABU. It is working fine for me. Give them a chance to fix the bugettes. It will help going forward to be on a more stable platform.

But they've had chances.

The communication has also been dire. The odd posts on some of the threads in Site Stuff, and one they set up themselves, asking us to add to their Known Issues document - and now are not responding to that one either.

It's not about look & feel or design - it's the functionality of the site that's been affected.

I'm on the app on an iPhone. Most major issues are resolved (and logging out / reinstalling helped with some) but there's a lack of compatibility between the site & app eg if someone uses bullet points or dashes on the browser version, they don't show up on the app, and you get reams of html interspersed with the text, making it impossible to read.

The MN emojis are stretched & pixelated

And I hate that @ are not automatically bolded

Bookmarks work sporadically

Active is mostly back to normal with some glitches and zombie posts appearing.

It's just been such an absolute mess, I can't believe they did so badly.

For those that used to click 'advanced search' it wasn't.

GoldenGorilla · 25/04/2022 09:17

Agreed. I’ve been a daily regular for years (maybe 10? Not sure). It’s been a massive part of my life. It’s just unusable now. Still having to accept cookies every single time I click on anything. @MNHQ - just flagging this thread cos you need to know how unhappy your users are!

TeenPlusCat · 25/04/2022 09:22

I'm not having any problems with cookies, logging in or bookmarks. I don't use emojis much but they are working fine when I do. Either on my laptop or on my phone.
I do think they were unwise to release at the end of the week though rather than on a Monday when presumably they would have more developers around to fix issues as they arise.
With all the platforms, browsers and operating systems it is hard to test every combination in advance.
