From the Daily Mail.

How COULD this sex show for children get £40,000 of public cash? mol.im/a/10745003 via dailym.ai/android

Finally, confirmation as to who the "specialists in sex education" were. Words utterly fail me.

How are you defining totally ?

In public
By adults
Aimed at kids
Many people defending it
Paid for by many authoritarian, respected organisations
Builds on small changes to legal expectations
Seeks to normalise something most adults would look twice at
Ridicules those same adults if they do make a query
Is embedded within schools and other youth organisations

The list of similarities is pretty endless.

Cascais · 23/04/2022 11:01

It is totally different

I utterly disagree. The actual events themselves may have been different but the world knowing something was wrong and doing nothing about it but lamenting it in documentaries later may not be.

To the people moaning about the thread: presumably you knew what it was about before you clicked on it? Why not just ignore it if you aren't interested?

Doesn't offer the same opportunity to make it about themselves.

Neverreturntoathread · 23/04/2022 11:39

I appreciate the posts OP.

I am particularly concerned about the trend for unqualified and sex-obsessed “external providers” going into schools to impose their controversial views on children under the guise of education.

Teachers are highly trained, have DBS security clearance and safeguarding knowledge, and are subject to regular oversight checks. Sex is not complicated, teachers are quite competent to teach the basics. I see no need for some random weirdos to be invited into schools.

For context, this term a male external provider who was invited into my local school for a sports session, insisted that all of the children, including age ten girls, strip down and get changed in front of him, even though the girls were very upset and protesting that they wanted to get changed without boys and a man watching their bodies. That happened this term.

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2022 11:46

@Neverreturntoathread wow, that is something. What happened, did anyone complain?

PriestessofPing · 23/04/2022 11:50

I also appreciate these posts and think that this show i’m particular needs to have the spotlight very heavily on it. At best, it was extremely misguided in the format and way they promoted it and needs a massive rethink. Without that spotlight on them the people making this don’t need to change what they are doing.

At worst it’s much more sinister and needs to be challenged consistently because without eyes on people tend to keep pushing to see what they can get away with.

Jesus that's disgusting. why was no other adult calling time on this?
We desperately need to stop this recent culture of no debate and people being frightened to speak up for fear of being called phobic or pearl clutchers. This is why Rotherham happened and is still happening. Looking the other way allows these nefarious people to exploit weaknesses in safeguarding under the guise of liberalism. or for fear of not being progressive.
The more sunlight on these groups the better.
In the 70's PIE managed to infiltrate many organisations and tried to sell themselves as liberal and progressive and too many people were so keen to be seen as progressive they allowed them in. Because they made their message to be about liberating children and the SJW's of the day embraced that. Whentheir target was the lowering of the age of consent to allow them to have sex with kids legally.

You really can't take your eye off the ball at all.
This policy of contracting out services to profit-making organisations with no oversight is a massive weakness, anyone with an ulterior motive can use these to push ideologies or undermine safeguarding.

picklemewalnuts · 23/04/2022 11:57

@Cascais is what way is it totally different?

MumstedInadequate · 23/04/2022 12:06

Adding my voice to those agreeing that sunlight on this subject is crucial.

Those who are bored of reading about continuing efforts to stop dubious groups with dubious agents from grooming children as young as 5...fair enough, but do you really think it's reasonable to tell other women to stop talking about this?

What element of it makes you feel that efforts to shut this down are wrong?

Would you rather we let this show continue...because it will be revived unless there is continued sunlight.

SpindleInTheWind · 23/04/2022 12:08

Thanks, OP for this update and discussion. Children's safeguarding matters.

Adults have got to get back in the room.

theDudesmummy · 23/04/2022 12:11

@Cascais

I have spoken to many survivors of abuse by high-profile/high social status/in plain view abusers like Savile. This is not "totally different". The themes and factors, inclding the defences and deflections of the offenders are sickeningly familiar.

Throckmorton · 23/04/2022 12:11

The first four replies highlight exactly how people like Saville got away with it - because of idiots who think it's "carping on" to keep highlighting grooming of children. Thank you OP for highlighting this!

How awful.

What did the police do when they were alerted? Do you have a link to the news stories about it?

I'm deputy safeguarding lead at school and we didn't hear anything in the national safeguarding news updating protocols about it. That's a pretty big oversight isn't it? I'd like to bring it to the attention of our school, and the LEA so that nothing like that happens under our jurisdiction.

Thanks.

Siameasy · 23/04/2022 12:26

We have to work hard to de-condition ourselves because, as women, we have been taught to minimise. “It couldn’t possibly be…”

It isn’t in the press, this is my local school and I’m only aware of it because the parents are livid and having a row with the head about it at the moment.

Neverreturntoathread · 23/04/2022 12:40

Ps no excuse obviously but the school is mega short staffed because so many teachers quit recently ☹️

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 23/04/2022 13:05

PAFMO · 23/04/2022 06:59

Quite.
HQ really need to stop these endless threads now about something that's not even happening.
Posters are whipping themselves into a frenzy and speculating about something which sure, should not have been allowed to go ahead.
So it wasn't. And didn't. And isn't.

PAFMO is a safeguarding officer in a school?

Same poster who was ineffably bored upthread?

You really must do better than that PAF!

Clymene · 23/04/2022 13:11

And was very convinced this is over and no longer worthy of discussion. Odd behaviour for a safeguarding officer.

Theunamedcat · 23/04/2022 13:13

They are also suggesting "this didn't happen" to the story upthread just because it isn't in the press doesn't mean it didn't happen 🙄

We had a letter sent around about an external "teacher" who had been convicted of paedophilia most parents didn't even know they had been at the school it was just reassuring us they had no unsupervised access to our children fortunately our school is robust in policy and practice so they didn't get a chance

Theunamedcat · 23/04/2022 13:14

Pressed post too soon ffs

The arrest and conviction did not make the papers just the Facebook rants and bants page

Unfortunately the same people are still going into schools and 'educating' children.

All parents need to be worried and make sure they are kept away from their kids.

Beefcurtains79 · 23/04/2022 13:21

Thanks for the update, it is most appreciated.

Dinosauria · 24/04/2022 09:56

It is naturally the fate of Mumsnet’s members, so many of them being female, intelligent, sexually unavailable and indifferent to male abuse, that their age should be considered ideologically telling in a way that, if it caught on generally, would mean reading repeatedly about “the mainly middle-aged shadow cabinet”, “the mainly middle-aged guests on The News Quiz”, “the mainly middle aged or older court of appeal”.

From the Guardian

That's a perfect turn of phrase. Especially the part about sexual unavaialability and indifference, because that aspect of MN is so very threatening to patriarchy.
