I need some ideas. Like medical shows, drama and thrillers.

The Crown

Cervinia · 21/04/2022 19:00

I wouldn’t say I “enjoyed” it but the Jimmy Savile documentary was very interesting, certainly from someone who lives near Leeds and knows Burley and Roundhay very well and spent every Saturday watching Jim’ll Fix It.

it validated my feelings that I always thought he was odd and creepy and couldn’t understand the appeal even though he fund raised millions.

Alleycat1 · 21/04/2022 19:17

Bridgerton, Outlander, The Last Kingdom and The Crown.

LadyLazarus40 · 21/04/2022 19:18

@Snooks1971 haha maybe awful was harsh but it could have been really good if they lost the twaddle. Liked the main actress and her hair and really liked the piano playing bloke and girl in the pub. It was just all the silly stuff which distracted from the good bits. The last episode!! What can I say. To be fair I did watch it all in the hope they’d lose the twaddle but the plot line was very weak and inconsistent and just inserted things and abandoned them at will!

Snooks1971 · 21/04/2022 19:34

@LadyLazarus40 I’ve got one and half episodes left to watch so say no more 😄 I have to see it through to the bitter end!

Piano guy is great - Joel Fry from GOH (which I’ve never watched). The Australian bloke is a bit errr unbelievable character ??

Sorry OP for bringing this twaddle into your thread!

The kids get a lot of enjoyment from Netflix, but quite honestly if it wasn't for them I would cancel it. Have watched the odd thing over the 2 years we've had it, but rarely. I look at the home screen and my mind goes blank! Everything just looks like such an effort to get into.

My go to is BBC iPlayer. Watch all sorts of things on there, most recently The Responder, Cheaters, season 4 of Better Things, and Eastenders.

NameGoesHere · 21/04/2022 19:39

‘The woman who watched the girl in the window across the road’ is very good.

MissConductUS · 21/04/2022 19:42

I'm loving The Outlaws, but I understand it was broadcast in the UK before it came onto Netflix. If you like stand-up comedy, all of the Iliza Schlesinger special are brilliant.

MrsSaltshaker · 21/04/2022 20:51

Those of you you liked Call my Agent - you should check out Standing Up (Drôle is the original title). I think it's by the same makers. V good, anyway. About some aspiring stand up comedians in Paris.

We have been watching Anatomy of a Scandal but I do think it is pretty terrible to be honest!

I have been watching a Turkish thing called Yakamoz S-245 which I am actually really enjoying. But NB that I'm 38 weeks pregnant, on maternity leave, and have reached the very late stage in pregnancy I remember from the last week or two with the older children where I feel distinctly stoned the whole time. So my judgement is probably off! (And I'm not convinced I'm going to make it to 40 weeks . . . )

Did you know that Yakomoz s245 is a spin off of Into the Night which is on Netflix? I watched Into the Night which is 2 seasons and it kept me on the edge throughout and later stumbled across Yakamoz and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Watch Into the Night too if you haven't seen it yet and I hope Netflix does another season together with the into the night crew and Yakamoz s245 crew.

Back watching Downton, I forgotten some of it, for instance obviously I knew Matthew married Mary but forgot why he didn't marry Lavinia,

Wouldyabeguilty · 24/04/2022 02:02

The Missing season2. Excellent

backtobusy · 24/04/2022 02:37

Another vote for inventing Anna both DH and I enjoyed that.

RachelshouldvegonetoParis · 24/04/2022 02:56

Am really into Turkish dramas at the moment. There’s loads on Netflix: just finished Midnight at Pera Palace which was time travel meets history drama. Loved it.

JemimaTab · 24/04/2022 03:06

I’m not sure it’s quite on your brief, but “Only the animals” (French film) was really good, IMO. Not conventional - bleak, weird, a bit unsettling. I thought it was really good.
I also liked the series Dirty John 2: Betty Broderick. Based, obviously, on the true story.

WhenTheNightFalls · 26/04/2022 18:48

Thanks for all the ideas everyone

You need to watch into the night next then. Set in the same universe and the stories meet up.

Smidge001 · 26/04/2022 18:55

Another vote for Call My Agent. Best thing we've seen on TV for a long time.

I enjoyed Superstore, but I have no idea if American supermarkets are so much fun to work in.

Anatomy off a Scandal was brilliant. The acting was so good.

Better Call Saul. Saving the new episodes for tomorrow night, with wine. It's so worth savouring. Especially as its the last season ever 😪

John Wayne Gacy tapes.

If you like Korean stuff (always watch with subtitles - never the dubbed version - that's sacrilege), all of us are dead is brilliant. Loads of great Korean content.

Firefly Lane is a nice bit of fluffy TV.

Oldie but a very goodie - GLOW.

there's loads of great stuff on there.

The series of Better Caul Saul that's on Netflix now is the penultimate series. There will be one more after this. (The final series is currently on regular TV here in the states. Who knows how long it will take to get to Netflix?)

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 26/04/2022 19:15

Just finished S5 of Queen of The South. We are currently watching The Big Bang Theory which makes me laugh out loud, watched Young Sheldon. The Fall was fab. Selling Sunset has S5 on now and I watched Below Deck Med, these are my watches when I finish work with a cup of T. The Handmaid Tale I watched on my own as not DH thing. We've watched so much but now I can't remember to give you ideas lol 😆
