Very weird phone call

Hi all,

I just wanted to share as I'm unsure how this has happened:-

I've just received a call from a number (number was there not withheld) and it woke me up and without really thinking I answered it as was half a sleep and a man was on the other end and didn't say hello, he just said you've called me to which I replied I haven't, I'm asleep and haven't called anyone and he said yes you've called me twice and I said again that I haven't and his number is no where in my call log and he was like oh okay must be a mistake which is fair enough, mistakes happen but here's where it gets weird I googled the number and it's for a cafe in Watford ( I live in the north west) it's about 10 minutes away from the Harry Potter studio tour which is where I was yesterday!

We definitely didn't go to this cafe, I definitely didn't call this number so I'm wondering how he got it - it probably was a mistake but it's really weird considering I was less than 10 minutes away yesterday.

Has anyone had similar strange events happen to them?

@reddevil2811 eek that is spooky 😳

Animals usually are very sensitive to anything weird.

I comfort myself that my house is ghost- free as our cat is so chilled! Grin

About 7 years ago i was with friends at mine having a drink and a laugh, my mobile phone sitting on the table not being touched for hours. Suddenly i get a text saying i just called them and they could hear me?? Then a little while later i get another message from my mum saying she got a 5 min voicemail and heard everything all of us said in that 5 mins. I checked my call log, nothing, i texted the text back telling them i was clueless to who they even were, number was not even stored in my phone and no calls or txts to this number, same with mum. To this day i have no idea how or why it happened and after that i used to put my phone in other rooms when having people over as not everything you talk about you want anyone and everyone to hear. Bizarre

We had something similar back in the Summer. It was early hours of the morning and the landline rings, we don't use the landline, aren't in the directory and the only people that have the number are my in laws and parents. You can imagine when it rings at 1am my DH leaps out of bed thinking something was wrong with one of the parents.... but this is where it gets freaky.... BEFORE DH even speaks, the man on the other end says DHs name, twice, (how did he know it was my DH picked up the phone and not me) then started saying he had run over our cat and he had it with him (we don't and never have owned a cat, and previous owners didn't either). By this time my DH had spoken, but the man was hysterical on the other end, then he said our address (even down to the name of the house, not just the number) and he was outside. DH shoots down the stairs, but nothing or nobody there. Man on the other end then starts making weird breathing noises, at which point my DH hangs up completely freaked out. DH picks the phone back up to see if the number was available and the man was still on the other end making the weird noises so it hadn't disconnected even though DH hung up. DH hung up again and then tried again to get the number, it was a mobile number but it isn't accessible.

We are in a little block of three houses, so I called both our 'neighbours' to see if someone had called them (one of them has cats) early hours and they had perhaps said no it wasn't theirs, but it might be our name and address... but neither of them had. Really freaked us out, more so the fact he said my DH's name before he had even spoken so knew he had picked the phone up and not me!

If anyone can explain that off as a scam of some sort, I'd be grateful as it still freaks me out when I think of it!! We unplugged the landline after that as we don't use it, and it's not been plugged back in since!

Op, it was just wrong number, it happens a lot, what exactly do you think the scam would be for goodness sake. Many of these are clearly just wrong numbers. It is simply co incidence you were close to their location yesterday.

Sounds like a sick prank call. Someone randomly picked name and phone number out 192 or whatever. I assume landline is in your husbands name. We used to do it as kids, but childish funny stuff.

Sounds like the episode "Harry Called' on Uncanny podcast 😨

This has just reminded me of a time I was driving to work at about 7:30am and my phone was ringing, didn't recognise the number but answered it and said hello and it was just my voice being repeated back to me.
