Hi all,

I just wanted to share as I'm unsure how this has happened:-

I've just received a call from a number (number was there not withheld) and it woke me up and without really thinking I answered it as was half a sleep and a man was on the other end and didn't say hello, he just said you've called me to which I replied I haven't, I'm asleep and haven't called anyone and he said yes you've called me twice and I said again that I haven't and his number is no where in my call log and he was like oh okay must be a mistake which is fair enough, mistakes happen but here's where it gets weird I googled the number and it's for a cafe in Watford ( I live in the north west) it's about 10 minutes away from the Harry Potter studio tour which is where I was yesterday!

We definitely didn't go to this cafe, I definitely didn't call this number so I'm wondering how he got it - it probably was a mistake but it's really weird considering I was less than 10 minutes away yesterday.

Has anyone had similar strange events happen to them?

About 10 year ago living in Egypt.

Got a txt from a random local number saying “don’t worry we won’t open the tomb until you are here”

Few days of exchanging txts later and it turns out that the person had found an unopened pharaoh tomb in the grounds of their farm. They were going to open it and sell the contents (illegal in Egypt) but decided against it as they were so scared of being cursed! Apparently it’s quite a common find in some parts- imagine how many historic things have not even been discovered yet?! Shock

Lamerexo · 19/04/2022 07:02

@Iamthewalnut

My landline rang.

I answered it and I heard some cheers, then a male voice that was obviously a recording said: It's your birthday! Just look out of the window and you'll see what we mean!

It wasn't my birthday. I looked out of the window anyway. Nothing was there.

So bloody weird, still can't make sense of it.

Fuck that I'd shut the curtains and lock myself in the bathroom for 10 hours

@Kirstos1

I had a phone call a little while back:

Caller: have you ever thought about adopting a donkey?
Me: (pauses) can't say I have to be honest
Caller: would you be interested?
Me: in a donkey? No. But I'd like a tiger if you have one of those.
Beep.
Me: hello?

To this day i don't know why I said it. Although I had been rewatching the walking dead at the time...

Fantastic 😁

Not freaky but a bit sad. DH keeps getting calls from both Women's Aid and the Scottish Police fur Sharon.

No idea what's happened butt I really hope they have another way of getting hold of her, he's actually got quite pally with one of the Police Officers when they realise they've called DH again Sad

AnneofRedGables · 19/04/2022 07:43

@DropYourSword what kind of photos were they? Could she remember them being taken or had they been taken without her knowing? That’s really freaky!

TreacheryPepper · 19/04/2022 07:49

I hope the Brian's tory is made up because that's creeped me out.

User7493268965 · 19/04/2022 07:53

Maybe your number has been spoofed

WhatICallMyUsername · 19/04/2022 07:53

I had this exact same thing last year and someone messaged me saying I had rang her (sent a screenshot of my number in received calls) but I wasn't even on my phone at that time and I am partially deaf so haven't made a call in years!

I assume something was going on in their life as it quickly escalated into her threatening me with the police for harassing their daughter!

I replied and said the normal response was oh that's weird isn't it and not to threaten people with calling the police then blocked them!

JauntyJinty · 19/04/2022 08:03

I was once making a call for work to book in appointment for something - a woman answered and she seemed a bit confused and standoffish while I was going through the usual trying to organise a time and she eventually said "Sorry, how did you get this number?" so I replied it was the number we had on file that I called every month for an appointment. It turned out I had got 2 digits the wrong way around and called a member of staff for the correct company but on their home number! This was just a small care home with I'd guess around 20-30 staff not some huge organisation!

Also when I got my new phone number I kept getting calls asking for the same name, I always replied they had the wrong number and they said they'd take me off the call list. When I first got the number I was getting a few weekly, I still get a couple a year. I know phone numbers get recycled when they are no longer needed so I didn't think too much of it. The part where it gets odd is when a friend on Facebook posted about how much they missed a friend who had passed with the same name. I'm not 100% sure it is the same person as it's a fairly common name, but still an odd conicidence. Before I knew this I nearly posted a Status saying "does anyone know who Name is, cos I've got their old number and keep getting calls from bloody collection agencys!" Really glad I didn't now!

Photos of when she was a little younger. Probably taken at school.
It was VERY strange but obviously just a bizarre coincidence

WhenDovesFly · 19/04/2022 08:49

@SmellyOldOwls
This happened to me too. My mobile rang with a number I hadn't saved but looked familiar. I still lived at home at the time and went into the living room and asked my mum if she knew the number, she said it sounded familiar but no. I sat down and my phone rang again. Same number. When I looked at it I realised it was my mums number. (Can't remember why I hadn't saved it! This was in the days of Nokia and Blackberry) her phone was sitting several metres away from us innocently minding its own business on the face of it, but it was ringing my phone

I'm tickled that you read the number out to your mum and she only thought it familiar and didn't recognise it as her own Grin

HariboFantastics · 19/04/2022 09:11

A few years back I opened a new phone contract, and at the time I wasn’t aware they recycled old numbers. I must’ve been about 18/19 years old.

One day I was minding my own business, when I recieved a whatsapp asking why their son had me saved in his contacts under “mum”.
Obviously I didn’t have a chuffin clue. It was his dad and he was fairly understanding that I had literally had the phone all of less than a week and not a clue what he was talking about, we left it there. Suddenly, who must’ve been “mum” was harassing me, telling me she will blast me on social media for having her young boys number and that I was obviously grooming him!! Obviously very confused I rang the phone company, they told me there’s chance of recycled number. I text “mum” back asking if this was her old number by chance; and she said yes. But she was still going to blast me on facebook.

She didn’t. She was just a batshit woman who
couldn’t grasp I had her old number and her son hadn’t saved her new one/deleted her old number.

Freak. I still get her gambling/betting deal texts to this day.

Are you very young, have you not heard of wrong numbers GrinGrin
majorquimby · 19/04/2022 09:33

Years ago when I lived alone, the landline rang and a man asked 'Hi is that X', I replied, no sorry you have the wrong number. He then asked 'is that '32 Your Street' - I lived at no 33! Could not work that one out, unless next door's phone no was very similar to mine?

Another time when I lived with my ex, I had trouble sleeping, so went downstairs at about 1am and put the lamp on in the front room - something I almost never did, ever. Within a few seconds of the light going on the landline rang. I answered it, and a man said 'Hello this is Joe' - I said sorry you have the wrong number, I don't know anyone called Joe. He replied 'you may not know me baby, but I know you' in a really creepy voice. I slammed the phone down, and was terrified that whoever it was was outside as it was so bizarre that he had called within seconds of me putting the light on. I woke ex and he was bloody useless said I was being over dramatic.

sueelleker · 19/04/2022 10:07

Might be someone mis-dialled them the first time, then pressed redial instead of dialling the number the second time.

Davethecat2001 · 19/04/2022 12:29

This is an old school friend of mine who posted this recording from his mothers office ansaphone in the 1970's.

Quite creepy.

TheBatKeeper · 19/04/2022 12:46

I have a number stored in my phone, that says

I AM NOT YOUR CHILDS PIANO TEACHER, they haven't called for quite some time, I have probably jinxed myself now.

We are registered with TSP, we rarely get junks calls, anyway, we get calls for home insulation, I let them blather on and then say, oooh we haven't heard from you in ages, have you been in prison, they swiftly hang up. Grin

rainbowmash · 19/04/2022 13:03

Over ten years ago, there was a brief period where I kept getting phone calls to my parents' place where I was staying, with strangers looking for a particular mental health charity. It always seemed to be me answering these calls. I checked, and the charity's local and national numbers were nothing like ours.

Present day - I now work at the exact same charity, and answer calls from people looking to refer to us. I only remembered the patch of crossed wires recently when a phone call jogged my memory.

Espionage or phone hack ?
1potato · 19/04/2022 13:09

I had a weird message from my brother and instantly thought he'd been hacked as it was a sexual giff he definitely wouldn't send. But I thought it was him at first because above it was a message I'd sent to him with the correct time and date of sending (birthday message). When I looked closely at the message I realised it was someone else's picture and a different number to my brothers actual number. When I looked at my brother's saved contact details, this random guy's number was saved alongside his actual number.

So creeped out. How did this happen? How did he get hold of the old message I sent to my brother?? How was his number saved under my brother?

I had sent my phone away for fixing recently...did they somehow hack me?

mrziggycoco · 19/04/2022 13:35

Yes. I was alone in my flat in 2012, no credit on my phone.
My buzzer was rang and I went down, a pizza man was there, with a pizza. He said 'here is your pizza' I kind of said what you on about?

He said you ordered by telephone, then got his phone out and showed me my number having called him.

I had no credit on my phone and had not called him.

Bjarnum · 19/04/2022 13:50

Alone in the house the landline started ringing. When I answered there was silence, so I hung up and did 1471. It was my mobile which was locked in the car outside on my drive. A few days later the same thing happened to my OH - the landline rang, it was his mobile locked outside in his car. This was years back - never happened again

[/quote] I couldn’t properly make out what was being said on the answerphone message, I had it on loudspeaker up to full volume, but the scariest thing to me is that my dog is sitting next to me on the sofa and was asleep, and as soon as the 3rd message started playing her fur stood up on end and she started growling and barking! I’m not listening to it again Shock
itsgettingweird · 19/04/2022 15:14

Nothing like this but I once had a lovely VM from a older lady about her holiday and confirming information.

She'd clearly misdialled as I googled who she was meant to be ringing and it was 2 numbers round the wrong way.

I didn't want to let her think the holiday company had her VM so rang her back to explain.

She was an absolute delight, we had a great chat about holidays and she was then going to ring the right number to get it sorted Grin
