This sums up our government and although I didn’t vote for them, I’m ashamed

The following is factual (courtesy to Stewart Lee):

At the start of last week the Conservative party included a child molester, a serial adulterer and compulsive liar, a handsome but morally bankrupt financial whiz-kid and a bully who sends immigrants to Rwanda.

@TooBigForMyBoots
That first piece was written last autumn. Johnson has spoken more since then.
Look to the DPPs like Starmer, why rapes aren't prosecuted more. He's more responsible for that than any government...of any colour.

I am ashamed to be British. I have good friends across Europe who used to discuss with me the perception of the UK since WWII as a place of democracy and moral authority. Now they message me asking what the has happened to British people to allow Johnson to represent us. They can't believe he hasn't been booted out. It will take decades to stop us being a laughing stock again.

Same here. My friends abroad think the electorate here have taken leave of their senses.
Glitteringduck · 18/04/2022 00:06

Do you know how the use Google? Google what labour did to our country when in power and why the vast majority didn't want that happening again. People are quick to forget. Corruption doesn't just lie with tories. The sooner you wake up the better. Mumsnet op's talking politics is always a laugh

ilovesooty · 18/04/2022 00:08

I don't have to use Google to know that this government is the worst in my lifetime, thank you.

MintJulia · 18/04/2022 00:09

@Hoardasurass

What we need is a viable alternative. Unfortunately Stammers Labour party is even less electable than it was under Corban. The Greens have forgotten that they are supposed to be all about the science of climate change and instead have become the TRA party. As for the Liberal Democrats they still haven't recovered from the coalition government and went full on misogynistic death spiral when they called women "non men" in policy. The SNP under Nichola Stergon makes Boris Johnsons Torys look positively saintly in comparison. I'm sick and tired of having to spoil my ballot paper and want a party that is trust worthy, is capable of running this country for the many not the few and isn't actively trying to remove my sex based rights and remove all child safeguarding. Really I'm not asking for much and yet none of our parties or current politicians seem capable, as such I think we need some new parties/politicians

They should thank their lucky stars for Britain and her allies. Without them the world would be very different.
MoggyCentral · 18/04/2022 00:51

I don't think Ukraine find us a laughing stock as they have said we have given them the most support and have helped galvanise other allies.
And I don't think Russia is laughing either otherwise they wouldn't have bothered banning uk politicians.

Glitteringduck · 18/04/2022 01:02

Ok, darling.. good for you. My comment wasn't actually directed at you. Self obsessed much? Hmm Grin

Which countries are they in so we can look at their relevant political leaders etc to compare?

It was a general comment to which I responded. Are you usually so unpleasant? I imagine the answer is yes...

Maybe look at funding? its not possible to cut Police numbers by 20,000 and expect the same outcomes.

One reason why so few rape allegations come to court is that it takes 3 years to get to trial.

Starmer was a DPP many years ago, not quite sure why he is suddenly responsible for the rape stats now?

Trainbear · 18/04/2022 08:05

What about diversity and non white people in cabinet/shadow cabinet positions?

Reminder - Diversity does not just mean "black".

Alexandra2001 · 18/04/2022 08:07

@MoggyCentral

And when Labour was last in power, it was lead by a war criminal. That's politics.
Just spent a few minutes Googling "Blairs conviction for war crimes"

... strange no conviction exists, can't even find the Police investigation into this allegation.

So i have binned your totally false claims along side "Labour gave us the 3 day week" which of course we all know Tory PM Heath did.

re writing history or more commonly known as lying, seems to be a burnt in trait of tory character.

Nope, its the USA, 100s of millions more in military and humanitarian aid. Johnson does talk more loudly though.

I doubt very much BJ has any plans to visit Russia, though considering his firm ties to Putin and Russian money, perhaps he was?

@PinkiOcelot

Yes but at least they know what a woman is!
That’s seriously the best you’ve got?

@PinkiOcelot

Yes but at least they know what a woman is!
Not all of them.
Theunamedcat · 18/04/2022 09:10

The reasons more rapes arnt prosecuted is because of the police over the last few years I've had the sad personal knowledge of two rapes and one child sex abuse case in all cases the police put pressure on the victims to drop charges phrases such as he loves you and we can see you love him honestly if you send a man to prison its his life over do you really want to destroy the rest of his life? Yes I get you have split up but this will only drag it out best drop it and move on also well they "say" marital rape is a crime but its really hard to prosecute your word against his and you chose to keep the baby so it doesn't look good for you now does it

Theunamedcat · 18/04/2022 09:11

I forgot the best one

How do you think your brother will feel finding out his sister sent his dad to prison

vdbfamily · 18/04/2022 09:50

I was speaking to my neighbour yesterday who runs an NGO and is in and out of Ukraine. They absolutely love Boris and the amazing support the UK are giving them. They are currently able to destroy over 75% of missiles heading their way before they hit their target due to the kit that we have given them and talked the US into also providing ( his words)
He also said the visit to Ukraine was essential and not virtual signalling by Boris.
His wife grew up in France and they spend a lot of time there. She said the French people they know also love Boris and can't bear the choice they currently have in France.
I find him fascinating. I would not trust him further than I could throw him in some ways but I do think he is doing a good thing with Ukraine at the moment.
I also agree we need some decent future leaders to rise up in all the parties as there is a severe lack of credible opposition either within or outside of Conservative party.

Narcoanonymoose · 18/04/2022 09:58

@vdbfamily what about corruption, bullying, lies, pork barrel politics ?
And when people call him Boris you can bet your bottom dollar the poster will love him...

vdbfamily · 18/04/2022 10:09

I agree that there is corruption and lies and I certainly do not love him. What I do think though it's that people are complex beings and that we can all do good and bad things. Mr Johnson(!!) has got and continues to get a lot of things wrong, but he has got it right with Ukraine and deserves some credit for that.
I am actually a floating voter as it has never made sense to me to say I will vote a particular way every year when policies and priorities can change by the minute.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/04/2022 10:13

PM Johnson may be good for Ukraine, but he's been a disaster for the UK.
