Will try to keep this non tmi as not a poo troll. Haven’t been able to do more than pass a couple of hard pebbles a day in over a week.

Beginning to panic. Used a glycerin suppository this evening, an hour later and nothing. Nothing at all. Aaargh. Was led to believe it acted like dynamite, but nothing has happened.

Also bought Dulcoease today but haven’t taken any yet - never taken it before and a bit scared, but also desperate.

Eating the same diet as usual which is pretty good and lots of veg and fibre, so just don’t know what’s happening. Recently stopped taking some probiotics I was on, don’t know if that’s messed things up. Have started prunes today and almost ate the whole tin. Still nothing.

Had a colonoscopy in January for a different issue there is nothing sinister going on in colon. Wondering if anyone has some failsafe cures as I’m feeling really upset and concerned about this as I’m usually not this way at all. Thanks for any advice and sorry for the subject matter!

Are you drinking loooooads of water? Try prunes and a hot curry. If that fails ask the Dr to prescribe you something.

ABitOfAShitShow · 17/04/2022 21:55

Get some movicol and take a couple within a few hours, then try a suppository again a bit later.

Also, if the problem persists, you could try incorporating magnesium, flaxseeds (my colorectal surgeon reckons this is the best thing - I’m not sure I’d go that far) and these great chewy things called Ortis Fruits and Fibres.

There are obviously other things but as a seasoned chronic constipation-er who doesn’t fare well with traditional laxatives like Senna, these are my go-to interventions.

Also, you might want to look at prokinetics if you have a bigger motility problem. There are natural prokinetics like ginger, MotilPro, tryphala, etc. And medicines you could discuss with a consultant like prucalopride (sp?).

Hope you get sorted, OP. It’s bloody miserable. Flowers

ABitOfAShitShow · 17/04/2022 21:57

Also! Califig works a treat - and I can tolerate it despite it containing senna!

Wiggles278 · 17/04/2022 22:00

Senokot can be effective and not too unpleasant. Dulcolax is also okay.

As a more long-term solution, drink a lot of water (hot water gets this moving more, I find) and start the day with a bowl of porridge with raisins and prunes, a cup of strong coffee and some orange juice.

Wrenna · 17/04/2022 22:05

1 Tablespoon of blackstrap molasses and a cup of water afterwards usually will produce relief for me in the morning.

SagaNorenLansrimMalmo · 17/04/2022 22:08

Coffee followed by a run…

WirlyWillowtree · 17/04/2022 22:09

Califig, sometimes takes a while to work, definitely don’t go out until it’s worked. I use it before every colonoscopy ahead of the urghhhh stuff.

Chobbers · 17/04/2022 22:11

At least 2 litres of water a day - more if you can manage it - and dulcolax would be my choice.
If that doesn’t work then get Laxido from your GP - that really is dynamite!

Moochio · 17/04/2022 22:11

Get some movicol and take a couple within a few hours, then try a suppository again a bit later. I'd try half a movicol to start with some peoples systems are A LOT more sensitive to it than others.

Peachyscream · 17/04/2022 22:13

Fybogel. Its the only thing that worked for me, and it's gentle.

Yogipineapple123 · 17/04/2022 22:13

I use Inulin

I have a yoga app called a yoga monkey. It has a sequence of positions to address digestion issues. Might be worth a shot?

nanny2012nanny · 17/04/2022 22:14

Laxido!

Yummymummy2020 · 17/04/2022 22:15

Second movicol, but take a few sachets at once (instructions on back to do this in some cases) I did it and it saved the day when noting helped!

lisaandalan · 17/04/2022 22:16

Laxido. Curry also makes me go. X

Moochio · 17/04/2022 22:16

Please don't do this straight away.. take one sachet or half and see what happens.
BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 17/04/2022 22:17

Lactulose. About 3 quid from the chemist for a big bottle.

travailtotravel · 17/04/2022 22:18

At this point as much water as you can and the dulcoease. Have 1 now another in the morning It will feel natural to poo and it makes it easier when there's clearly a backlog. Seriously though lots of water .... if I get dehydrated and don't do exercise....

QueefofSheena · 17/04/2022 22:20

Pico liquid, it’s liquid dynamite

holdyourheadupyousillygirl · 17/04/2022 22:21

For me, it's a pint of prune juice but I also drink loads of water with it.
I have to time it so I'm not anywhere inconvenient from about 3 hours after drinking it. Lots of gurgling but it's my solution.

MarmiteCoriander · 17/04/2022 22:24

All the above advice is great, BUT, your actual position sitting on the loo can also have a massive impact on how easy or difficult it is to poo! Loo up squatty potty and you will see that a western style, seated toilet makes the bowl go into an S bend making it more difficult to poo. being in a squatting position, straightens the bowel and makes it a great deal easier!

Even using bricks, extra large tins or those child stools (the plastic type!) to raise your feet and make you sit on the loo in a more squat like position will help immensely.

My midwife recommended flax seeds. Apparently a spoonful of peanut butter with flax seeds mixed in will sort it out! No personal experience though.

ZimZamZoo · 17/04/2022 22:41

These all work:

7,000 mg of vitamin C in one go
Or 1,000mg of magnesium ( but will make you drowsy)
Or a load of fried red onions.

SpeedofaSloth · 17/04/2022 22:42

Big drinks of water
Prunes, about half a dozen or so before bed
Sitting on the loo for a while longer than usual, if you can. Don't know why but it helps me...
