Can I donate easter eggs to a foodbank?

After easter?

I have a large haul of easter eggs and fancy boxes of chocolates -birthday and easter. Around 8 large eggs and 6 boxes of chocolates.
Would it be ok to put the unoponed eggs into a foodbank or is that rude? They won't get eaten, no one in the house has a sweet tooth. I am not sure what to do with them and I don't want to waste.

Why would it be rude? Are they out of date?

If they're in date and unopened I can't see why you couldn't donate them to a food bank.

womaninatightspot · 17/04/2022 17:35

You could put them on Olio; sure they'd find a home.

speakout · 17/04/2022 17:37

Thanks. I have a couple of food banks near me. No not out of date, just bought this week.

Why would it be rude? Confused

Or did you just post this so we'd all say what a wonderful person you are?

Babyvenusplant · 17/04/2022 17:38

You could ask if the supermarkets are still collecting, some were for childrens hospitals and homes

That's harsh. I think OP meant because the recipient would not get them in time for Easter.
Abra1d1 · 17/04/2022 17:38

A bit of a treat is good for people.

Comedycook · 17/04/2022 17:39

You're right @hangrylady. I was a bit harsh Blush

froggybiby · 17/04/2022 17:41

Please please please yes put it in the foodbank....I was going there last week to drop off things on behalf of a friend & I but I hadn't bought much this month....Smile I felt a bit bad...when I checked their list b4 going there chocolate goodies were on the list...I quickly walked to b&m bargains to get some & other bits...They were over the moon.

coffeeschmoffee · 17/04/2022 17:46

I have some to donate too. I'm sure chocolate treats are always welcome

AHungryCaterpillar · 17/04/2022 17:49

Personally I would have put them on
My local Facebook page freecycle etc for someone who was unable to get their kids eggs so at least they would get them for today

Hallyup89 · 17/04/2022 17:49

Gosh, yes. You'd make someone very happy to be able to have a treat. Wouldn't matter to me if I got an Easter egg after Easter. I'd hope that supermarkets would donate their excess Easter stock too.

speakout · 17/04/2022 17:55

Thanks no I am not virtue signalling, just wondered if chocolate eggs would be welcome after easter. A straightforward question. They were only given to me and my family today, so I couldn't have given them earlier.

Moochio · 17/04/2022 17:56

Yeah sure go for it

speakout · 17/04/2022 18:02

Thanks for those who understand. We are all deserving of dignity, including people who use food banks, I didn't want to appear insulting if I donated them.

You could donate them to the poor step kids of the woman who thinks it’s ok to buy Easter eggs for her own child and not her step children.

True. Perhaps OP could hop into her time machine and just do that
AHungryCaterpillar · 17/04/2022 18:54

It’s Easter today and she posted at 5.30 still time. 🙄🤦🏻

It's an anonymous forum, how would posting this make her look good? Hmm
AHungryCaterpillar · 17/04/2022 18:55

Why would she need to “hop in a time machine” today is Easter, and when she posted it was still early.

Dustyblue · 18/04/2022 05:45

This issue caused a row at work last week. I work for a community house with a free food pantry & the local supermarket donated several trays of easter bunnies.

One side- "we can't donate junk to the poor and homeless, they more than anyone need nutritious food, it sends a bad message"
Other side" bullshit, everyone's allowed a treat"

Other side won, yay.

alltheteeshirts · 18/04/2022 06:17

Yes, but they'd likely be an 'extra' rather than get counted as one of the mandatory items that goes in the bags. They'd be appreciated, but the food bank would still need donations of all of the other stuff.

The only chocolates that would get rejected would be out-of-date and/or boozy ones (if those even exist). Nowt wrong with a regular Easter egg after Easter.

Pottedpalm · 18/04/2022 06:20

I’m wondering who gives you all this chocolate. Don’t they know you don’t eat it? I can’t recall receiving more than one egg as an adult, never mind half a dozen large ones. .

Footle · 18/04/2022 06:21

@speakout , I'm glad you posted this, was wondering the same thing.
