Can a heart patient who has diabetes survive covid? (Vaccinated)

OP posts:
titchy · 16/04/2022 18:29

Far more likely to survive it than not.

MatildaTheCat · 16/04/2022 18:29

Yes absolutely. Two years ago probably not.

Many caveats of course.

Hugasauras · 16/04/2022 18:29

Yes, it's not an automatic death sentence!

jytdtysrht · 16/04/2022 18:29

Yes. I know someone who did.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/04/2022 18:29

My father-in-law did, unvaccinated. He had a bad cold, that's it. He's also a heavy smoker with high blood pressure.

olympicsrock · 16/04/2022 18:30

Of course - many have. ( first hand experience looking after many such patients)

jytdtysrht · 16/04/2022 18:30

Covid does apparently wreak havoc with diabetes though

kazza446 · 16/04/2022 18:30

Yes without a doubt. The mortality rate has rapidly decreased because of the vaccines.

PortiaFimbriata · 16/04/2022 18:31

YABU, unless the person in question is in their nineties or suffering from very extreme and specific heart complaints, or not properly boosted, then the overwhelming likelihood is that they will survive Covid and indeed they probably won't need hospitalisation.

It's not ideal, and it is a risk, but it's very far from a death sentence. Even pre vaccination most diabetic heart patients would have survived Covid.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 16/04/2022 18:31

What do you mean by "a heart patient?"

I'm a type 1 diabetic, triple vaxxed. I was in bed for 5 days with COVID but nowhere near being hospitalised.

My 70yo mum has heart failure. She had a better time of it than me, 1 day in bed.

Chickychoccyegg · 16/04/2022 18:32

Yes of course they can

Northernsoullover · 16/04/2022 18:32

My mother in law did! She didn't even need treatment.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 16/04/2022 18:32

My dad is a 62 year old type 1 diabetic with mild liver disease and ex heavy smoker (quit about 8 years ago and now vapes) he got it before being vaccinated and felt a bit shit but never needed to call doctor etc

Blueeyedgirl21 · 16/04/2022 18:33

It also depends what you mean by heart patient ? Heart transplant recepient or someone with mild angina are very different things !

SummerHouse · 16/04/2022 18:34

They are highly unlikely to get very ill let alone die.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 16/04/2022 18:34

Who knows. It's seemingly totally random.

Friend A. No health conditions. Early 30s. Died.

Friend B. Also early 30s. Multiple health conditions, to the extent I can't name half of them. Was told the vaccine could kill him so hasn't had it. Caught covid. Said he had a bad cold for a few days. No lasting effects.

Partyatnumber10 · 16/04/2022 18:35

3 of my elderly relatives all had Covid at the same time (gave it to each other)

80 year old with a weak heart had a very sore throat and two days in bed.

76 year old diabetic had a slight cough, sinus pain and a few extra afternoon naps.

95 year old with a serious heart complain and diabetes had a runny nose and was bored.

They're all fully vaccinated, the vaccine is doing its job.

Spaghag · 16/04/2022 18:35

Yes, absolutely it's possible to survive Covid with almost any medical condition. Being triple vaccinated gives you an even better chance of not becoming so unwell.

MargaritasOnMe · 16/04/2022 18:36

I know quite a few diabetics who've had it (both T1 and T2) and all were absolutely fine with it. Don't know anyone with heart issues so couldn't say for that complication.

WouldBeGood · 16/04/2022 18:36

Much much more likely to survive than not.

Thursday37 · 16/04/2022 18:41

Yes. I have an in-law that is on a heart surgery waiting list and is diabetic, they got Covid pre-jab and survived (they were ill but never dangerously so) and got it again post vaccines (Omicron, caught whilst in hospital) and that was asymptomatic-only picked up because of hospital testing.

EdgyNeonAnt · 16/04/2022 18:43

Yes, DP's octogenarian grandparent who had many pre-existing health conditions, including a lung condition, survived it before the vaccine was developed! He was extremely frail and everyone thought it might kill him, but he didn't seem at all affected by it.

Hbh17 · 16/04/2022 18:44

Almost certainly. This is not a serious illness & especially not for the vaccinated.

steff13 · 16/04/2022 18:46

YABU. I have type 2 diabetes and asthma. I got COVID twice. No symptoms the first time, this was pre-vaccine. A rash the second that was easily controlled with Benadryl, this was after vaccine + booster. I never missed even a day of work.

ShaneTwane · 16/04/2022 18:47

My dp has heart disease and is unvaccinated and was fine when he caught COVID. You will likely be totally fine.
