New Nikes for 13th Birthday can't crease them!!!!

Mumzybear22 · 16/04/2022 12:59

So it was my daughter's 13th birthday and we bought her the latest Nikes. She loves them to bits ...won't wear them in case she creases them . Is this a thing? Apparently I should have bought them in a smaller size as squashed toes keep them crease free Hmm Anyone else have any teenage pearls of wisdom ?

Surely the solution is to buy them a second hand pair that is already creased so that they don't need to worry about creasing them! Or just a cheap normal pair.

Tiddlesthecat · 16/04/2022 14:23

Good Lord. So I just googled creased trainers and it turns out that people actually do iron them!

LizBennet · 16/04/2022 14:23

Like frig am I buying a size a fraction too small.

hookiewookie29 · 16/04/2022 14:25

Sneaker shields work really well, my daughter uses them.

Ilovesandwiches · 16/04/2022 14:31

I’m 26 and it took me ages to wear my airforce as I was worried about creasing them 😂

Holidaypls2022 · 16/04/2022 14:31

Omg I can't believe this is a 'thing'. I genuinely feel for all you parents that have to deal with this and I am very grateful it hasn't reached our house. Mine are mid and late teens and their trainers cost a fortune, but at least they wear them Shock

honeyytoast · 16/04/2022 14:31

Am I the only one who thinks lightly creased trainers look better?! More natural and worn in as opposed to stiff and obviously new. Might just be me lol

ThisUserIsNamed · 16/04/2022 14:45

Back in my day it was all about converses and the cool kids had them looking worn!
As a younger child, again if you had new trainers you wanted to get them filthy.
Imagine ironing them them!!

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 16/04/2022 14:59

Yes it’s a thing once their got creases they are considered old by alot of teens around here, at DD14’s school if you wear anything but Nike, Air Force, Jordan’s or converse you are referred to by other kids as poor, doesn’t matter the cost or brand, a lot of the children will also stomp on other childrens shoes and trainers sometimes rubbing their own shoe on top for good measure when walking past if they spot anyone not in their friendship group with newish shoes on whatever the brand 🤦🏻‍♀️

AliceMcK · 16/04/2022 14:59

I don’t know what’s worse, not wearing them in case they crease them, or as my DCs do, destroy them within a week of owning them. At least my DCs are getting use of of them I suppose. Thankfully they havnt reached the teen fashion stage yet.

We all do stupid things as teenagers, I remember “borrowing” my DBs Fila boots because they looked good with his baggy jeans (which I also borrowed), none of them actually fit me but I didn’t care.

MaChienEstUnDick · 16/04/2022 15:01

@MichelleScarn

Now back in the grungey 90s, 'new' looking trainers were the WORST! Remember people standing on them to get the beat up look!
Like literally if you wore new kicks to my college in the 90s complete strangers would come and stand on your toes to help you out and scruff them up!
Mumzybear22 · 16/04/2022 15:03

Glad to see it's not just my DD!! She's asked for a pair of pink Jordans but I can't seem to find them...maybe just as well!!

Back in the Olden days didn't people used to buy jeans and wear them in a bath of water to shrink them? Grin

Summer15coming · 16/04/2022 15:21

Just sitting on a bench outside the cathedral watching the world pass by. I'm now staring at any teenagers passing to see if I can perceive a special crease-resistant way of walking. Hope I don't look too suspicious.

Thinking about it, my 22y DD advised me recently that I really had to buy shoe trees for my new DM loafers, so maybe it's shoe-creases in general that are bad.

montysma1 · 16/04/2022 15:23

Creased..... my 13 year olds wear their trainers until they literally disintegrate. Worrying about a crease wouldn't enter the head.

AnybodyAnywhere · 16/04/2022 15:24

Certainly did! I did that with all my Levi’s in the early 70s….not the most comfortable thing, you had to keep them on until they dried for it to work, my mother made me stand outside 😂

However a new pair of ‘bumpers’ (the trainers of their day) was shameful and you tried to get them as grass stained and grubby as possible..and creased! Bright white bumpers = totally uncool 😎

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 16/04/2022 15:25

this trainer nonsense is a UK thing.

pearljamm · 16/04/2022 15:28

I used to scuff my new trainers up so they didn't look new, to my mothers despair!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2022 15:29

There was a thread on this a while ago. Apparently it is a thing!

ZeroCaffeine · 16/04/2022 15:30

It was the opposite when I was a teen! New shoes that looked new just weren’t acceptable so we’d step all over them and bash them on the ground to make them look worn

Porkbuttsandtaters · 16/04/2022 15:30

Back in my day we’d buy a brand new pair of converse then needed to mucky them up. I’m sure our parents were equally thrilled Grin

abc4321 · 16/04/2022 15:35

I've bought myself a pair of Air Jordans (because they were comfortable, not because they're trendy apparently).

My teenagers were appalled that I was walking normally in them as I'd crease them. Evidently I needed to walk as if I was cross country skiing. I've had hip surgery and creased trainers are about the last thing on my mind... Surely a contender for the most stupid fashion victim award?

MojoJojo71 · 16/04/2022 15:42

That’s nuts. My 9 yo DD met a girl of a similar age in a playground the other day who proceeded to tell her that her trainers cost £120. My DD replied ‘Really? You were ripped off, mine were only about twenty quid in sports direct’. That’s my girl 🤣🤣

Hellocatshome · 16/04/2022 15:42

Wow I'm suprised my teen hasn't heard of this. He recently spent nearly £200 for a jumper but walks around in the most dog eared trainers you have ever seen!

Snowdropsarelovely · 16/04/2022 15:44

Crease protectors from amazon - that's what my teen wears to keep trainers looking immaculate
