To consider letting in the ghost hunters?

On Monday there was a knock at the door and 2 blokes and a woman were stood there. They asked if I knew the history of my house and whether I had ever experienced paranormal activity. They introduced themselves first of course and showed me their YouTube channel, showed proof of ID etc etc and then asked if I’d be willing to let them do an overnight “investigation” in my house. I found the whole thing very funny but said I’d rather not, simply because I’m busy. They wanted to do it this weekend and have offered me £500 to do it.
I’m to let them know by 4pm today.
At first I was brushing the idea off completely but now I’m thinking it might be fun? It would take place over night Easter Sunday … I’d only be sat watching telly on my own otherwise.
I’ve watched their YouTube channel (which I’m not going to name as don’t want to be accused of promoting) and so know roughly what they’ll do.

AIBU to consider it?? My best friend thinks it will be interesting but then she believes in all that stuff.

(For what it’s worth, house is very very old and was “investigated” a couple of times before I bought it, I just didn’t know).

I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe in cash, so I’d let them do it!

2reefsin30knots · 16/04/2022 12:29

Absolutely for £500. Great way to earn a bit of extra money!

Saucery · 16/04/2022 12:29

I’d be worried you’d have a stream of people interested in the paranormal at your door after it is featured on their channel.
They also might be really irritating and you’ll be stuck with them all night Grin

JudgeRindersMinder · 16/04/2022 12:30

Go for it!

Beckstar0 · 16/04/2022 12:32

I did worry about my house being targeted afterwards but they said they never expose specific locations for residential places, they’ll just say it’s a house in Yorkshire. Even then though when they go through the history of it anyone semi local will be able to identify it

Sounds like an interesting way to earn some easy money, definitely go for it.

Watch Series 2 ep1 of BBC Ghosts.

*first...

MurmuratingStarling · 16/04/2022 12:34

Not a chance would I be letting a bunch of strangers look for 'ghosts' in my house. Never heard of anything so ludicrous.

3peassuit · 16/04/2022 12:35

I wouldn’t. You might get lots of ghost hunters turning up at your door uninvited once your house is known.

2reefsin30knots · 16/04/2022 12:36

Having an extra £500 in your pocket for nothing is not ludicrous though.

Sylfia · 16/04/2022 12:37

I'd wonder why such short notice?

PonyPatter44 · 16/04/2022 12:38

@Yourgirlfriendrachel

I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe in cash, so I’d let them do it!
Exactly this!
TheSpottedZebra · 16/04/2022 12:39

They don't give you much notice, do they, ghost hunters?

Pinkbonbon · 16/04/2022 12:40

Probably wouldn't want an investigation team poking about my home. Not to mention advertising all the points of entry on their channel and who lives there to all and sundry.

Not to mention, if they do séances ect...they could stir up shit that is dormant or let stuff in that wasn't already there. So, hard pass.

trainnane · 16/04/2022 12:43

Check out all the paperwork. What have they emailed you? Is there a contract? There usually loads with these things. We've had our house on TV as it was fun but a lot of hassle too

Pinkbonbon · 16/04/2022 12:46

For three times that amount maybe... If I was there at all times. And there were ground rules (like- no oedja boards and no provoking).

And only if I didn't have kids in the home because that would filter back to them and scare them. And because it might bring oddballs round to gawk at the place and I wouldn't feel safe having kids outside anymore if there were odd ppl around.

IncompleteSenten · 16/04/2022 12:48

For 500 quid in advance and an agreement they don't reveal the address yes I'd tell them they could film their bollocks and pretend they encountered ghostly goings on.

Andacherryonthetop · 16/04/2022 13:08

Omg no, they might anger the ghosts! Haha, I would be too scared!

rc22 · 16/04/2022 13:11

If there is anything paranormal going on in your home and it hasn't bothered you so far, I would just leave it be.

Kurtanforpm · 16/04/2022 13:28

I had ghost hunters stay the night in a very old house I lived in once!

It was brilliant. I’d seen and heard things and they had those meter things that kept going haywire in the same places my dogs wouldn’t go near and just growled at.

There were 6 of them, really nice people, they paid us and let us join in their huge takeaway while they set up.

They told me exactly what they were going to do and asked permission for each thing. I asked them not to do ouji boards and they respected that.

They had a contact for me to sign saying address would not be disclosed.

We needed the money too as it was an old rambling place that was falling to bits, the fee filled the oil tank for a while.

This was 15 years ago now, eh h kept the place when we divorced (I ran away fast as it was an old falling down heap that wasn’t worth the hassle), and he’s had a few more over the years.

VerifiedBot2351 · 16/04/2022 13:32

I’d be really interested in it, but the idea of having strangers in overnight would put me off.

Teacupsandtoast · 16/04/2022 13:32

Ooh go for it, I'd find that really interesting....especially with a cash incentive! Definitely get a contract signed first though

Kurtanforpm · 16/04/2022 13:35

And I never believed in ghosts really until I lived in that house.

We were having a new kitchen fitted once and I took dd out for the day as he was little and it was a pain having no kitchen. Ex h was quietly working from home in his office in an outbuilding.

Got back a 5pm to the kitchen fitter asking how many other children we had, they had been running my husband ragged upstairs all day.

He went white as a sheet when I pointed out dh office across the lawn and told him he’d been on his own all day.

He kept asking if I was talking the piss, he could hear people all day.

Nearest neighbour was a five min walk away.

DrDiva · 16/04/2022 13:44

I’m probably overly cynical, but I’d assume this was a cover story - they were going to either burgle the place then and there, or come back and do it.
