To be honest I think you’re weird not to let someone else use your drive when you haven’t got a car. People actually rent their drives out and get some money for it.
As someone with a driveway and no car, I can help you out:
1) Their car could damage my wall, fence, drainage cover and otherwise cause additional wear on the drive; all those things would cost me money.
2) Our family, friends and any workmen park in the drive when they visit; I don't want to pay for parking permits when I have a functional drive. We also let the window cleaner and plumber park there whenever they do something on the road, because we've agreed that can if they text to ask (they do) and they are important enough to us to keep them sweet! At least once each week, a car or van will use it for however long.
3) I have a young son who scoots down the slope and sets off his rocket launcher (back garden it could get lost in other gardens); there is no visibility coming into the drive from one side; if they swung into the drive they might hit him. I don't want to not use our own front garden just so that someone else can.
4) What happens if my son's scooter or bike, or one of our bikes, scratches the car? I don't want to be liable for damage caused by squeezing out of my own drive.
5) The bins can't be put out with a car in the drive, we need the space to get them out and in again once each week.
6) I don't want to squeeze in and out of my drive past a car.
7) I don't want the noise of an engine nor the sight of a vehicle to distract me when I'm in the front room.
8) For a tiny amount of driveway rental I'd have hassle and cost to organise the Public liability insurance and tax declarations, which I don't want to do.
9) It's my property, I don't want to create expectations about others having some claim over my own space.
