AIBU - my neighbour's flower bed is my dog's toilet

I routinely let my dog wander unsupervised around the neighbourhood and he's taken to going into my neighbour's garden, digging up their flower bed and taking a massive stinking dump there. It's his favourite spot to go. This has become a daily occurrence, but I can't stop him, he's an animal and needs his freedom, and I'm not going to clean up after him either because they can't technically prove it's my dog, and not someone else's free-roaming unsupervised dog.

...Yes this would be really fucking unreasonable wouldn't it and people would be quite rightly calling the authories on me and I'd get fined and a control order slapped on my dog. So why why why the ever living fuck is it considered okay and normal when cat owners do this?!? It's absolutely disgusting and I am so so sick of cleaning cat shit out my garden on a daily basis. AIBU?

I agree with you OP. My life is so hard between full time work, single parenting and doing everything in life on my own. Then I want to do a nice spot of gardening, and I'm clearing stinking cat mess out of everywhere in my garden. I haven't got any animals myself. It's horrible, it makes me want to cry. I don't know what the answer is but it's not OK.

IsraelAndRoo · 14/04/2022 17:35

@catsoop I do know a lot of people who have allergies - and many people do everything they can do avoid them, as do others around them.

By your reckoning it's fine to serve peanuts on planes with a peanut sufferer (airborne)??

pastypirate · 14/04/2022 18:03

Yanbu. I had this issue in my old house it was v soul destroying arriving home each day to the stench of catshit.

We have a dog and I routinely encourage him to chase cats out of the garden. Expect I will get flamed but I don't want them in my garden and that's the end of it. I wouldn't dream of allowing my dog into anyone else's garden!

Dogs, foxes, raw meat and veg! Not just cats. I've had a house full of cats when pregnant. Just wash your hands! Did you learn nothing from the pandemic?

Barbie222 · 14/04/2022 18:40

I'm not keen on cats and hate catshit, but honestly there isn't much you can do about it in your garden apart from try the stuff that's on sale to deter. I do feel sorry for cats that are 'indoor only'. I don't think staying indoors all the time is very natural cat behaviour.

I'm not sure name calling is OK/necessary.

I’ll stop my cat shitting in my neighbours’ garden when they train their dog to stop barking.

PinkSyCo · 14/04/2022 19:13

I’ll stop my cat shitting in my neighbours’ garden when they train their dog to stop barking.

The only time my dogs ever barked was to warn off garden trespassers ie the odd fox or hedgehog but mainly one of the dozen or so bloody neighbourhood cats!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 14/04/2022 19:18

People saying cat don’t shit in their own garden are wrong. Our old cat and new cats all shit in their own gardens.

Svara · 14/04/2022 19:21

Quite. Yes yes, it’s the owners fault, but you will still not ever find a cat shitting where people need to walk.
Exactly. A neighbour cat has sprayed my front door every day for five years. I occasionally clean it with a rag and white vinegar. I'd still prefer it to stepping in a dog shit even once a year!

coronafiona · 14/04/2022 19:25

My cat goes on our garden. It's disgusting. She has clean facilities indoors which I wish she would use instead at leat I could clean it up then. Bleurgh .

Stop them doing that then.
sophienelisse · 14/04/2022 19:28

My cats go in the tray. One doesn't go out by choice and one comes home to poo.

PinkSyCo · 14/04/2022 19:31

Stop them doing that then.

No. You stop your animals invading our territory!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/04/2022 19:32

I had a cat like that it was a damn nuisance having to fish the 'thing' out of the litter tray and go round to the neighbours to bury it amongst the vegetables.

Pumperthepumper · 14/04/2022 19:32

No, not until you train your dogs.
DelphiniumBlue · 14/04/2022 19:35

I do think animal poo in your garden is gross. However, I do wonder how cat owners can stop their cat pooing wherever it wants to, unless they keep them inside all the time.

Boood · 14/04/2022 19:42

If i was standing there when my cat pooed in someone else’s garden, I absolutely would clean it up. Do you often let your dog out without you?

NancyDrooo · 14/04/2022 19:42

Has anyone tried putting a litter tray of soil outside? Wondering if that might persuade cats to poo on home turf.

NobleYeats1 · 14/04/2022 19:44

@AllThingsServeTheBeam dogs don’t spread it so you are incorrect. Veg & meat I can control. Random piles of cat shit in the garden not so much. Foxes don’t poo in my garden.

Gosh you really are a nasty person. The consultant took the cat shit incident seriously enough to get me tested but heaven forbid anyone say anything bad about a cat 🙄🙄🙄 so ignorant.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/04/2022 20:38

How about, (I've not tried this myself yet) just a thought. One of those cone things that vets put round cats heads to embarrass them BUT fit to the rear end of the cat.
Then put a shower cap, like those you get in posh hotels, over the cone so when the cat 'does its business` it will automatically bring it back home!
(Assuming it hasn't sat down somewhere in the meantime.)
Could it work? Anyone want to try it - if they've got a cone? And a shower cap? And a cat?

I'm not nasty in the bloody slightest. Jesus Christ.

Oh don’t be so dramatic.

Yabu but nice reverse 😏
