Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

Lots of the biscuit/cake type treats I buy as they're £1 are now all about £1.25. I usually buy what's on offer each week rather than sticking with brands. But my offer price is now the higher price. Same with the 6 packs of crisps I was always getting whichever ones were on offer for £1. Seems £1.25+ now.

The 50p small packs of ham in sainsburys are now 65p. Uncle Ben's rice in sainsburys is not £1.25 for anything other than the plain which has stayed at the £1.

My has and electric has gone up from £97 a month to £210. Apparently they'd under estimated my dd before the rise then I've had the rise as well. All the utilities have gone up a few ££ though.

The only plus side to this all is that I'll gain a few more nectar points. I've also noticed a few decent savings now sainsburys are doing nectar prices so some of the things are currently a bit cheaper than they were even before the increase.

The bus from our nearest stop to the town, about 2 miles away and easily walkable unless it’s pouring down or I’ve got bags of heavy shopping, has risen from £1.80 to £2.20. All journeys are now £2.20 within the district, regardless of distance, so the stop a little further along which has always had a special offer fare of £1 has had a £1.20 increase.
To go to the town 8 miles away the day ticket, which is the cheapest option, has risen from £4.20 to £7.

MadisonAvenue · 15/04/2022 19:20

@BlueOverYellow

Pretty much every single food item we buy has gone up in price, some quite considerably.

It's pretty shocking.

It’s not just a penny or two is it. Things are rising by 10p…20p…50p.
Stroopwaffle5000 · 15/04/2022 19:23

My gym has upped it's prices by £2 per month

Pliudev · 15/04/2022 19:24

I saw a leg of lamb in Tesco that was £32. Not huge, just average size. I decided we would be having chicken this Easter then saw one in Asda for £13. But it had a promotion sticker saying it was half price, so would normally have been close to Tesco's price. I now feel a lot of fear about cooking it. It's got to be special hasn't it?

sunlight81 · 15/04/2022 19:26

Nursery fees were £3099.85 for 3 kids full Time last month.

This month is it £3217.17

TheMooch · 15/04/2022 19:28

R.Whites lemonade in Sainsbury. Bought a bottle for £1.

Two weeks later it was £1.25
And a big fuck off sign telling me it was on offer, reduced from £1.30.

Granary loaf was £1.25, last week it was £1.65.

Was meant to go to ikea last year but never got round to it, i compared 3 items to what they were last year and it will cost me an extra £6.50 for the exact same products. I didn't bother comparing after that.

Callingallskeletons · 15/04/2022 19:33

Lots of little price rises (and some not so little!) in Tesco & Lidl recently - even compared to a few weeks ago

DC dance & swimming lessons both gone up since the start of April, wrap around childcare increasing by 50p per session per child which I know isn’t ground shaking but will still equate to an extra £25-35 a month

EveningOverRooftops · 15/04/2022 19:43

Paper products. Everything from loo roll up to the fancy drawing paper have gone up from 10-30%

I’m sat sewing hankies atm from DCs old, was going to put them in the rag recycling as they’re grubby old, school shirts because even tissues are more pricy. With my hayfever it’s costing a lot more just to wipe my nose.

Aside from the obvious major food increases. I’m spending maybe £10-20 more a week on food right now.

I’m seeing the price of yarn go up. Epoxy for home repairs is £2 more than it used to be.
Candles have gone up by 25-50p for tea lights and dinner candles.

Compost has gone up by around £1-2 a bag which is adding a lot to the cost of growing vegetables as I’ve put in more veg beds this year.

Garden raised beds kits have doubles in price. There were really decently priced in b&q this time last year. Went to order more and they’ve doubled!

I can’t find some things I really need and have been looking for with shops saying it’s uncertainty over supply chains and they’re permanently out of stock.

I don’t know if this is as bad as it’s going to get or are we in for a rougher ride for the next year or so Confused

Sbbhnfc · 15/04/2022 19:47

And today's shock - 4 Scotch rolls, were £1, now £1.80. I mean, I know it was Tesco Extra, but even so....and also, they seemed smaller to me than the last time I bought them, which was only a week or so ago.

I remember my mum, and friends' mums, crying in the 1970s as things were so expensive. Looks like we're pretty much back there...

Jinglebin1 · 15/04/2022 19:58

I really object to paying to go to the toilet. It's disgusting.

Jinglebin1 · 15/04/2022 19:59

Ive noticed that what used to be a 50p packet of biscuits for years, like Oreos in Asda for example, are now £1+. Lots of things I'm buying expecting to be a £1 are now around £1.25.

SuzyQ12 · 15/04/2022 20:00

Dog food used to be two boxes of 12 cans for £9.50, now £7 each, no multibuy offer. Kids vitamins were £3.75 now £5. Plenty going up well above inflation, it's very depressing.

You can get a big multipack of tissues in Home Bargains for £1 if that helps you at all x
Peppapig7262662 · 15/04/2022 20:02

Bus ticket has gone up from £5 to £9.20!

EveningOverRooftops · 15/04/2022 20:02

@Jinglebin1 sadly I don’t have one nearby! I’ve been grabbing the balm ones whenever they’re on offer. Ones without leave me with a massively sore nose. Thank you though.

Thinking it’s time to switch to hankies though. More eco friendly.

TracyMosby · 15/04/2022 20:07

My dad gets a cheese cake from Iceland. It has gone from £1 to £1.50, which is a scandalous increase percentage wise.

Diesel near me was 179.9 and when the 5p reduction was announced it went up to 184.9. The week after back to 179.9 Angry.

My favourite crisps are now £2.40 per bag so ive switched brands.

daisychain01 · 15/04/2022 20:11

Small Warburtons white loaf was £1.20, now £1.65

Bag of Alpen no added sugar muesli was £3.50, now £4.40

Bottle of Robinsons no sugar Lemon squash, you used to regularly get offers of £2 for 2 bottles, now it's £1.75 each bottle and no discounts.

The only food item that has remained very good value is bananas. I can't believe how cheap they are!

daisychain01 · 15/04/2022 20:13

Supermarkets regularly advertise special offer prices that are much more expensive than the pre-pandemic regular prices. It really irks me, do they think we were born yesterday??

LuluBlakey1 · 15/04/2022 20:19

Bought DH and I a takeaway black coffee each while we were out for a walk today. Two weeks ago they cost £2.25 each. Today they were £2.80 each. Small black coffee. Gone up 55p a cup.

Fedupbuyer · 15/04/2022 20:19

Everything in aldi has gone up by 10-50p,I used to buy their bloomer bread but it’s gone from 90p to £1.25!

LessObviousName · 15/04/2022 20:25

Hardly an essential item but went to buy a piñata for an Easter party, last time I bought it it was around £9, this time it was £15. Decided to skip it.

L3andlosingit · 15/04/2022 20:29

Lots of pre packed fruit and veg now have 5 items instead of 6. The packet price is the same but we get less. It’s sneaky

CurlsandCurves · 15/04/2022 20:31

The toothpaste I buy has gone up from £1.99 to £2.50. I could buy cheaper but I’ve got gum disease to deal with and this is the one my dentist recommended so I don’t really want to swap.

Crisps. Pre pandemic Morrison’s used to do all branded crisps at 3 for £3 (most of the time). Now just one bag of 6 is £1.75 and no offers to be had. Aldi all the way for us now.
