The book or books that bring back comforting and happy memories.

Mine are Magic Faraway Tree, Mallory Towers and St Clares, all by Enid Blyton.

What are yours?

The house that sailed away, by Pat Hutchins. Loved that book as a kid.
Velveteen Rabbit, Faraway tree and one about a baby called Sebastian Fry who was an alien in the end, can't remember who it was by.

Tereseta · 19/04/2022 08:14

Ooh and point horror books later on

Tereseta · 19/04/2022 08:29

I used to love: -

The Borrowers
Anne of Green Gables
Paula Danziger books
Sheila Lavelle books
The Trebizon books by Anne Digby

A fairly modern children's book I like is Beswitched. It's a bit like Charlotte Sometimes.

JosieMama · 11/01/2023 04:24

Anything by Mary Nhin, the Ninja Life Hacks books, but of the entire collection, his favorite is "12 days of Christmas", we have to read it every night before going to bed. Even when is not Christmas anymore 🙃.

Mog.
Any Mog book. But Mogs Bad Things still gets quoted by my teens when things go wrong in life..."you spilled the peas!"

Tom's Midnight Garden by Phillipa Pearse.

OoooohMatron · 11/01/2023 09:44

All the Roald Dahl books and the Worst Witch. There was also a book called The Hairy Toe which the headmaster used to read to us in primary school and put on funny voices, I loved it!

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

Which Lone Pines are you missing? I have a couple of Armada spares.
They've also recently been reprinted by GGBP.

@MargaretThursday - I am so sorry I missed your generous offer last year - that is so kind of you. Please don't worry though - I have all my favourites.

Has anyone listened to the adaptation of Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising, on Radio 4? I didn't listen to it before Christmas, but have now listened to it all, and it is very good - infinitely better than the film adaptation.

girlfriend44 · 17/01/2023 13:56

Enid Blyton no doubt.

Liked those Dreadful Children.

Abhannmor · 17/01/2023 16:33

There was another American fantasy series very like Point Horror. What was it called ....aargh!

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2023 17:59

Jill and the perfect pony
All of the Jill books really

MargaretThursday · 17/01/2023 18:34

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

No worries. I'm very slowly replacing them with GGBP when possible, but I do love the Armada smell as they were the first ones I owned. 🤣

I've been listening to The Dark is Rising too. Mostly really impressed, and most niggles are only because they had to shorten it or it doesn't fit in with my internal voice when I read it.
Infinitely better than the film definitely, but I think that was almost inevitable because the film was infinitely bad.

catchingclouds · 17/01/2023 19:54

All the Babysitters Club series

The Trial of Anna Cotman by Vivienne Alcock

The Naughtiest Girl in the School and The Naughtiest Girl is a Monitor by Enid Blyton.

millievanille · 17/01/2023 20:13

When I was about 8 I read a book called Diamond by Caroline Pitcher. My mother gave it away to a charity shop while I was at uni and I was heartbroken! No one else I know has ever heard of it.
