Is Boris a good example for our children?

Would you encourage your children to behave as our Prime Minister has done? Lying to the public, lying to Parliament, lying to wives, etc. Is he someone you'd encourage them to admire and emulate?

Why the goady thread?

emuloc · 13/04/2022 08:41

No.

Sally872 · 13/04/2022 08:43

Yes I often encourage my children to lie and be dishonest, that the rules don't apply to them etc. Great to see a leader I can use as an example Hmm

x2boys · 13/04/2022 08:43

What exactly do you want from this thread?

longwayoff · 13/04/2022 08:54

Goady? Until recently being PM was an example all children might be encouraged to emulate. I often see hapless footballers or entertainers called to account by the media as they are supposedly role models for our children. Surely we should expect, given the life of immense privilege he's experienced, rather better from a PM.

Electrox · 13/04/2022 09:03

Why should he be? That isn't his job.

NotTheOW · 13/04/2022 09:04

Yes

NotTheOW · 13/04/2022 09:04

(Not really obviously)

PurpleDaisies · 13/04/2022 09:06

Of course not. Nobody apart from the three stooges (raab, Dorries and mogg) think that he is.

Sally872 · 13/04/2022 09:06

Of course he is a bad example. Your post is goady because there is only one very obvious answer.

NameGoesHere · 13/04/2022 09:10

What kid wants to have a politician as a role model?
What adult wants to have a politician as a role model?
There aren’t any politicians credible to be role models.

FairyCakeWings · 13/04/2022 09:14

I would never have wanted my children to consider any prime minister that has existed in my lifetime as a role model, but to be fair to Boris, at least he’s resilient. He hasn’t caved into media pressure to resign and I kinda respect that.

AlternativePerspective · 13/04/2022 09:14

Who brings their children up teaching them to behave like politicians?

Most parents bring their children up to act by their own code of conduct. Most children don’t give a shit about politicians other than that we have a prime minister, and by the time they are old enough to have an understanding of politics they’re old enough to make their own decisions.

But as far as I was aware people don’t tend to think that they’ll behave like insert prime minister of choice> the prime minister is just the person who leads the country, he’s not god.

tinytemper66 · 13/04/2022 09:16

He is no role model.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/04/2022 09:18

Yes he's a good example of what not to do.

Rather like Hitler is a good example of how a dictatorship can progress into mass murder.

(I'm not comparing Boris with Hitler by the way)

Lots of kids watch football though and have favourite players same with pop stars I can ,t see many kids watching prime ministers question time ,and all the heckling from both sides is not exactly something to aspire too.
LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2022 09:18

No but then he should never have been near the office of PM.

He’s been sacked 3 times for lying! Why the heck would anyone vote for this man to be PM of the UK?

manysummersago · 13/04/2022 09:18

I don’t think any PM should be behaving in a way that is likely to be emulated by little children.

Putting Boris’ misdemeanours aside for a moment, the only thing children need to know is that Boris is there because overwhelmingly the public voted to have him there.

If they subsequently decide they do not want him there, they can oust him in 2024.

And when they are 18, they have that power too.

JaceLancs · 13/04/2022 09:20

I am struggling to think of any PMs in my lifetime who I see as good role models
Any suggestions?

EnjoyingTheSilence · 13/04/2022 09:20

What a ridiculous question

Tanith · 13/04/2022 09:21

Never mind the kids, he's a very bad role model to other politicians.

Boris Johnson's behaviour sets a precedence. They might cheer on "Good Old Boris" with his lies and antics, but will they as happily accept other Party leaders doing it when they become PM?

Boris Johnson is showing them all how they, too, can get away with lies and greed by simply not giving a damn.

x2boys · 13/04/2022 09:23

Nope ,not really they have all had their downfalls .
manysummersago · 13/04/2022 09:30

One of the things I’ve come to realise as an adult is that skills needed for really effective leadership don’t sit comfortably alongside skills we are taught when small about kindness, empathy, compassion, etc.

To be effective at leadership, you need a certain amount of callousness and ruthlessness and even disregard for others.

In other words, effective leadership doesn’t really make someone a likeable or even particularly pleasant person, but I don’t need a PM to be my best friend.

PurpleDaisies · 13/04/2022 09:32

Rubbish. We have just seen too many leaders like it that too many people are willing to accept that from our politicians.
