Is Boris a good example for our children?

Would you encourage your children to behave as our Prime Minister has done? Lying to the public, lying to Parliament, lying to wives, etc. Is he someone you'd encourage them to admire and emulate?

I don't think it would ever occur to my kids to look at BoJo as a role mode. They'd rather emulate whichever TikTok brainless influencer is currently popular.

Murdoch1949 · 16/04/2022 22:41

He’s not even a good example to his own, 7, children let alone the nation’s children. Hate people referring to him as Boris, that is just what he wants, to be regarded as a cheeky chappy, whereas in fact he is an inept, bumbling, disheveled twat.

Imlovinglife · 16/04/2022 22:46

How tedious - another Mumsnet "I hate the Tories" thread.

I wouldn't teach them to kneel to others either, like Starmer did. Also, doesn't he keep saying "TWAW"?

Blossomtoes · 16/04/2022 22:53

@NameGoesHere

What kid wants to have a politician as a role model? What adult wants to have a politician as a role model? There aren’t any politicians credible to be role models.
That’s pretty much the point. There used to be politicians you’d be happy to see as role models for your kids. The current front bench is useful only as an example of what not to emulate.
CakeAmbushAlert · 16/04/2022 23:22

I think you want to show your kids that you can trust in authority- it gives you a feeling of security that ‘the system’ should do the right thing, uphold the law, be just. Unfortunately, that’s now a naive view. Johnson’s behaviour and lack of integrity sets a new low. I might not always have agreed the the political decisions and behaviour of previous PMs but I largely thought they were honourable.

How can we expect the public to uphold the law when Johnson doesn’t? I sincerely hope there isn’t another Covid wave that requires more than just the vaccines to keep it in check because if we do & Johnson tries to dish out any ‘rules’ we’re f*ed. I wonder what Chris Whitty & Patrick Vallance make of the fact he didn’t abide by the medical & scientific advice.

MangyInseam · 16/04/2022 23:31

Good example for what, was my thought.

But, clearly, not for any of the things you mention.

But I think the only time I've used a PM as an example for my kids was Churchill as rhetorician.

DaphneSprucesPippasClack · 16/04/2022 23:36

He isn't even a good example to Insects and pond life, never mind children.

CakeAmbushAlert · 16/04/2022 23:39

@Tanith post about Johnson setting a bad example to other politicians is a good point. Will everyone deflect now? Will everyone expect things to blow over? Will no-one resign for wrongdoing (& being fined by the police & receiving a damning report from the civil service for failures in leadership does establish wrong doing!) is this the end of accountability from those in public office to the public they are supposed to represent?

So the politicians I’m most disappointed in isn’t Johnson or the god awful cabinet he has surrounded himself with. My disappointment is with the rest of the Tory MPs for not saying his behaviour falls beneath the expected standard for their party leader. The Tory party condone Johnson’s rule breaking through their inaction. Shame on them.

PinkiOcelot · 16/04/2022 23:44

Can’t think of 1 reason why I wouldn’t want my kids using him as a role model 🙄

tttigress · 16/04/2022 23:45

This country has a low birthrate which is causing problems. Many people could follow Boris's example and have more than 1 or 2 kids!!

DropYourSword · 16/04/2022 23:56

@longwayoff

Goady? Until recently being PM was an example all children might be encouraged to emulate. I often see hapless footballers or entertainers called to account by the media as they are supposedly role models for our children. Surely we should expect, given the life of immense privilege he's experienced, rather better from a PM.
I can't think of ANY PMs in my lifetime that children would have been actively encouraged to emulate.
EliyanahM · 17/04/2022 00:12

It's weird that the UK voted for a middle aged blond dye-job rich boy with a comical name, and so did the US. Both terrible role models.

EliyanahM · 17/04/2022 00:14

FTR, Obama was a pretty good role model of how to behave. Most American kids are told 'You could be President one day' as well.

Anyusernameleft · 17/04/2022 00:20

I'd worry about him being a role model for his own kids ...never mind for the rest of the country's kids...

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 17/04/2022 00:26

Literally no child has been told to emulate a PM for decades with the exception of the Rees-Mogg children having Gladstone as a role model.

FindingMeno · 17/04/2022 00:30

Is he fuck.

I’d have been happy for mine to emulate Gordon Brown. He’s a thoroughly decent man.
