to ask if a callback after a biopsy definitely indicates cancer?

This is currently me Confused
Very worried and tearful and want to prepare myself the best I can
Anyone been here? Would you be called in to see a consultant if the results of the biopsy were clear?

My call back was because my result was clear.

The consultant told me at my first two appointments he believed it was likely that I had skin cancer, but turns out that I didn’t. He wanted to apologise.

I hope yours is clear too!

OhSOconfused123 · 12/04/2022 21:21

Thank you so much for all your replies
I am trying as hard as I can to keep myself busy until I know what’s happening

I've had breast cancer. I've also more recently had another lump that was biopsied. Both times I had to go in in person for the results even though the second biopsy turned out to be just a cyst. So don't assume that if they call you in it means it's positive.

@OhSOconfused123

Sorry I wasn’t trying to put the receptionists job at risk - I just meant if it www a negative result I wish she could have told me to stop this constant worry
Sackable offence, unfortunately. It's not anybody else's job to give you results like that, as they might not interpret them correctly or there's another set of results they can't see that suggest something else. And even if something isn't malignant/cancer, it could need treatment and people need to be able to ask questions and have them answered properly; if appointments were only for very bad news but everything else was done over the phone, people who still needed treatment might assume as everything's OK, they don't need to attend and would miss out on a further treatment or referral - and some realising that it had to be bad news might not attend out of fear, denial or even harm themselves, assuming that it would be automatically terminal, rather than a localised treatment.

And, only slightly facetiously, doctors deserve to be able to enjoy giving people good news as well as bad. Can you imagine your whole day being spent giving people life shattering information without a single happy moment?

All the best for your appointment, OP. I really hope that your appointment is one where the doctor can give you positive news and reassurance.

MeridasMum · 12/04/2022 21:50

I was called in to see doc for breast lump biopsy results. They were negative but I got the opportunity to ask all my questions which the admin person would not have been equipped to deal with. Plus, what a huge responsibility which would be way above their pay grade! Mistakes and miscommunications can occur.

None of us know your results but your call back does not mean anything. It's easy said but try not to worry too much. Wishing you the best Thanks

Thinking2041 · 12/04/2022 21:56

It must be agony waiting. I’ve some experience but not quite that.
When do you have the appointment?

Normando91 · 12/04/2022 22:12

I was called back for a face to face appointment for a benign lump, they scheduled surgery to remove it as a precaution.

I hope everything goes well OP Flowers

Whoopsmahoot · 12/04/2022 22:22

I got a call 3 days after biopsy to say consultant wanted to see me before next clinic in 6 weeks. Can I come in tomorrow and bring your husband. Yes it was cancer but dealt with unbelievably quickly and all good.

OhSOconfused123 · 13/04/2022 09:27

My appointment was next week but I called back and explained I was really struggling and prepared to have any other appt at all that comes up and I’ve just had a call to see me this afternoon Confused

It’s a good hours drive away to where the space is today but I just can’t wait until next week feeling like this Confused

Whiskersonkittens21 · 13/04/2022 09:29

Good luck Op x

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 13/04/2022 09:34

What did you have biopsied OP?
I’m sorry you’re going through this, it’s an all consuming fear and worry isn’t it? I understand what you’re going through. This waiting is the worst part though. Whatever result you get today, once you know you can deal with it. Wishing you a positive result!

planetme · 13/04/2022 09:37

Good luck op 🍀

I've had this anxious wait a couple of times, it's been fine. But it's horrible isn't it waiting and wondering. X

Blossom97 · 13/04/2022 09:55

Good look today op x

ColinFirthsClingyWetShirt · 13/04/2022 09:56

This might be a good thing - that they could squeeze you in today -
could be negative, so not much time needed for the consult.
Also the original appt was for next week, so seemingly not urgent.
Be careful driving!
Hope all is well.

shinynewapple22 · 13/04/2022 10:28

I had a call back recently to see the consultant - results were inconclusive and I had to have repeat mammogram/ biopsy. I hadn't considered that option ...

SevenWaystoLeave · 13/04/2022 10:33

I have a cancer diagnosis and the waiting is the absolute worst, well done for being pro-active to get seen sooner. Agree being asked to come in does not necessarily mean cancer, it might just be their clinic's policy or there's some other need for treatment/re-tests they want to talk to you about. Even a benign lump might need sorting out. Good luck.

OhSOconfused123 · 13/04/2022 11:11

I’m here now waiting.
I feel so so sick but am very grateful for all your support on here as I’ve hardly told anyone in RL - it just made it too real that way

Hand hold for you, @OP!
Hope you'll be updating with a big sigh of relief!

(I had a scare several years ago, too.)

HollowTalk · 13/04/2022 11:21

Wishing you the very best of luck 💐

OhSOconfused123 · 13/04/2022 11:21

Sorry I missed a question.
It was a breast biopsy after a sudden red rash and a massive lump appeared last weekend.
The rash has completely cleared and the hotness is gone too after being on antibiotics but the lump is still there although hard to tell if it now feels smaller than before.
Thank you - I will update as soon as I know
