A white one, a green one and a savoy?

I don't want them to go off.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 12/04/2022 09:44

Coleslaw, balandeliai, soup. cabbage pie etc, etc.

DragonOverTheMoon · 12/04/2022 09:44

I have never heard of remoulade before. It looks absolutely delicious.

I love these ideas, thank you.

Off to buy shrimp paste and make kimchi today.

@BaronessBomburst we eat dhal weekly so will definitely fry some off for the freezer to add to that.

I use savoy or green in place of spinach on curry sometimes. Always goes down well.

I use savoy for stuffed cabbage leaves regularly, but when it was substituted for a white one recently (which wouldn't wrap) I ended up just chopping up the whole thing and serving it like pasta with a big spoon of sauce over the top. It went down a storm with the teens and is now on the regular rotation as a rice or pasta substitute.

'gets off sofa to go and do something creative with the cabbage in the fridge'

DragonOverTheMoon · 12/04/2022 09:48

That carbonara cabbage looks amazing @BarryKentPoet

I do like colcannon as well.

Dammit that cabbage salad sounds lovely.

I think I'm going to be eating a lot more cabbage to try all these out

Mount them outside your house and become a pawn broker.

Bubble and squeak, glaze with cider or you could add to a soup/stew/casserole. Check BBC good food or recipetin for ideas I always find them good.

Cherrysoup · 12/04/2022 09:52

Cook and freeze.
Cook whole leaves and use in place of rice/pasta.

TheKeatingFive · 12/04/2022 09:52

A green cabbage is lovely stir fried in a yaki soba or similar

Cherrysoup · 12/04/2022 09:53

@Stath

This.
Pmsl! I have the ‘sossig’ one saved.
Diplidocus4 · 12/04/2022 09:54

Great thread ! Thank you , love cabbage but very boring in cooking so will try lots of these .

Nnique · 12/04/2022 09:54

Oh yes roasted cabbage is really delicious.

I’ve got a white cabbage in the fridge and I’m spoilt for ideas now! I’ve already got a red cabbage Russian sauerkraut. Might make the cabbage and mint salad.

TerrifiedandWorried · 12/04/2022 09:55

You are gonna be farting like a goodun.

TheKeatingFive · 12/04/2022 09:57

Also old school Irish cabbage and ham.

Bonus points if you fry the cabbage in the bacon fat after par boiling.

Loopyloulou007 · 12/04/2022 09:57

One pot white cabbage and bacon with a French stick buttered on the side, lots of butter, lots of pepper. Yummy.

CarmenThePanda · 12/04/2022 09:59

White cabbage keeps for ages and ages in the fridge. 3 weeks no problem.

CarmenThePanda · 12/04/2022 10:03

I like white cabbage shredded finely, dressed with ginger, lime juice and sesame oil. Salt, pepper. Or add sesame seeds and use olive oil. Goes well with Asian / noodle type dishes.

Nnique · 12/04/2022 10:04

Oh that sounds right up my street. I’m saving half a cabbage to make that for our next Korean meal!

LeastofLeicester · 12/04/2022 10:04

I absolutely hate cabbage but got inundated with them through oddbox.

The only cabbage recipe I really enjoyed was enchiladas. Use the leaves instead of tortilla wraps. They were delicious!

BoodleBug51 · 12/04/2022 10:07

Use the Savoy for this....... food of the gods.

www.rivercottage.net/recipes/stuffed-cabbage-leaves

I've done this a few times at Christmas as the veggie main and side dish for meat eaters.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 12/04/2022 10:10

If you have freezer space you could finely chop them and freeze raw. Then just add from frozen to whatever you want to cook.

CircusBaby · 12/04/2022 10:14

Stuffed cabbage leaves (stuff them with mince and onions), then bake them with a tomato sauce.

Ham and cabbage soup is fab too.
