in August? DC will be 15 and 18. After 2 years of no holidays, I don't even know where to start looking. Would love some inspiration from others.

One year I did all of it separately and it was cheaper but more stressful to make sure each bit matched up. I’d do it again somewhere I spoke the language though. This year I found Jet2holidays was cheaper so just booked somewhere we wanted to try via them.

Rosehugger · 11/04/2022 10:48

Italy, both DH and I have been several times but not with DCs, so they are really looking forward to it. As am I!

Villa in Spain with pool Easy laid back hol, Dh and I often gonout for breakfast while they sleep in or we eat together. Some nights in,( they often cook) Out some others as a family, just really go with the flow.

*Blimey people are amazingly accommodating of their teens wishes.

When I was late teens the standard for my family (and those of friends) was that our parents chose what they wanted, because they were paying, and if you were too ungrateful to appreciate it you were welcome to stay home!*

I don't think finding a holiday that everyone will enjoy is being "amazingly accommodating". We are paying because we have an income and they don't, or not really. It doesn't mean that it's more our holiday than theirs though. Seems quite a dated attitude to family life, the idea that the preferences of the main wage earner are more important than everyone else's Confused

As an 18 year old we all had weekend or evening jobs (this was 2003) and paid for our own holidays to things like the Greek or Spanish islands.

DS(18) is doing this with his friends straight after exams but also wants to hang out with us in France for a couple of weeks later in the summer. We enjoy our holidays together.

Bali in July for two weeks! Have teens aged 15 and 19, can’t wait.

Most 16+ I knew wanted to go away with their friends, even if that meant a basic caravan in Newquay etc.

Yes, proud to be accommodating, and certain that my teens deserve every bit of it.

Oh that sounds amazing. Can I ask, who have you booked with? I honestly don't know where to start!

We have a 14 and 18 year old and we're going on a Cruise, (Croatia and the Greek Islands) We cruised 3 years ago and the kids loved it. It's a rally good family holiday because there is lots to do for everyone separately and together. You have to make sure it's a family cruise line like MSC or Royal Carribean.

Momoftennischildren · 11/04/2022 16:31

Surfing, Cornwall.

dreamingofaholidaysoon · 11/04/2022 16:33

We're currently in Costa Rica with our teens. Incredible incredible place. Easy to do by yourself. Safe and relatively cheap when you're here. We got flights via the US for £400 each and staying in incredible lodges for less than £100 a night.

Thailand also relatively cheap at the moment. They're desperate to get tourists back. Koh samui, Koh Tao or Koh phanghan for July.

We've also done Bali in July. Again incredible. I can highly recommend some lodges there as well.

We do our long haul holidays for less than a package to Greece. Book it yourself. Stay in unique boutique places. Our Teenagers love it.

Barbados

daffodilandtulip · 11/04/2022 16:38

I miss going abroad but it just doesn't feel the same at the moment. We're going to Devon and the Lake District. Last year we did the Isle of Wight - they loved it. (16 & 14)

Monr0e · 11/04/2022 16:46

Following with interest. I am hoping to book for next year, our oldest will be 17, youngest will be 13. They want a mixture of sightseeing / culture alongside some pool days.

Although Costa Rica and Bali sound amazing

I am not a great traveller, as in I am not very brave, wouldn't know where to start booking everything separately and navigating places on my own which is why we tend to stick to package deals.

Pre dc's we enjoyed holidays in Mexico, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Unfortunately out budget just doesn't stretch anywhere near that now.

Monr0e · 11/04/2022 16:48

Any tips on booking long haul for less than a package to Greece would be very appreciated!

mine like cities, so we do cities near a beach. Barcelona and Porto. Porto was fab though both v busy in the summer.

or villa with pool in France.

Badgerstmary · 11/04/2022 16:57

When mine were 18, 16 & 9 we went to Mexico in July /August. It’s an amazing country with everything on our wish list: different culture, rainforest, coral reefs, amazing food, monkeys on our balcony, fantastic weather…

irregularegular · 11/04/2022 17:03

We like to have quite a lot of variety of things to do and see. Just sitting around relaxing doesn't work that well just for the four of us - they miss their friends too much. It's OK if we are with others.

This year we are taking the 18 and 20 year old to the Azores (whale/dolphin watching, surfing, canyoning, kayaking, walking, geo-thermal stuff, nice little colonial cities). In 2018 (our last "big" holiday we had an amazing holiday in Borneo, with a bit of Singapore). We were supposed to go to Colombia in 2020 for our last official family holiday. That didn't happen for obvious reasons. I don't think I'd go there now I'm afraid. In 2019 we just went to France - a few days each in Nantes, Ile de Noirmoutier, and a week in a rural gite in the Dordogne (but that was with extended family - wouldn't work just us). We didn't really do proper summer family holidays abroad in 2020 or 2021.

outdooryone · 11/04/2022 17:07

I asked mine this year at age 16 and 18.

One was really keen on mountainous area of Spain, one the food in Italy. We flipped coin and are heading to Spain to walk some big mountains.

ChorltonWheelie · 11/04/2022 17:12

Mine are 18 and 20. All going to Miami and then heading to Key West

Hillarious · 11/04/2022 17:18

We've done cycling holidays with late teens/early 20s - the type where your luggage is taken from hotel to hotel and you follow a route to catch up with it. Great fun and no argument over how you'll be spending the day.

Monr0e · 11/04/2022 17:23

@Badgerstmary do you remember where you stayed? Did you do organised outings or head out on your own? This sounds ideal for us, thank you

Absolutely. I'll come back when have more time. It's definitely doable when you look at it as a whole holiday cost including spending
bumblefeline · 11/04/2022 17:31

California road trip and over to Vegas. We have done Tennessee Smokies and Dollywood. East coast USA. Costa Rica is on my bucket list as well.

The Portaventura hotels are one of my favourite holidays kids can come and go as they please to the theme park all day.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/04/2022 18:24

We're doing a weeks AI in Tobago with DS who will be 18 by then, made much more affordable as we have BA vouchers that will cover the flights.

I really like the sound of this. Where should I be looking for such a holiday?
