Since when did carrots become part of Easter

Carrot decorations, even carrot chocolates and eggs and hats on water bonnets. AIBU, but apart from something a rabbit likes, they aren't even spring vegetables. I think they should get their own celebration, maybe try to muscle in on Halloween being orange and an autumn crop. Leave Easter for the chicks and eggs.

OutingHobby Easter trees are a fairly new thing in the UK but it's a traditional that's come over from mainland Europe and has been around for centuries.
I like them.

Fair enough. Are they usually inside?

I may have said to the Dc during one their wild moments, that the Easter bunny and Santa are in touch. So bunny on bookshelf could work we don't elf here though, I'm too lazy for all that.

In Aldi after Christmas, they were selling off all the leftover Kevin the Carrots (plus family), and there didn't seem to be many takers

Are you sure this isn't just a way of getting rid of them?? Wink

Legoisthebest · 09/04/2022 22:30

OutingHobby they can be indoor or outdoor. Outside it's trees or bushes that get decorated, inside it's just a branch or twig.

Is the Easter Rabbit not actually A Hare ?
Like the Mad March Hare ?

The idea of an egg-giving hare went to the U.S. in the 18th century. Protestant German immigrants in the Pennsylvania Dutch area told their children about the "Osterhase" (sometimes spelled "Oschter Haws"). Hase means "hare", not rabbit, and in Northwest European folklore the "Easter Bunny" indeed is a hare .

I used to do an Easter Tree - braches from our pear tree , painted white , secured in a decorated bucket and hung with pastel egg decorations .

Since our cats came to live with us , no Christmas Tree . No Easter Tree . No candles . No glass/ceramic fruitbowl

They are little vandals ( mainly femalecat) I'm sure she scorns this isn't A THING in My house

UndertheCedartree · 09/04/2022 22:56

I found some sherbert carrots which I can use as part of the Egg hunt as my eldest isn't so keen on chocolate. So I'm fine with carrots - the Easter bunny has to eat after all! 🥕🥕🥕

My mum did an Easter tree in the 80s so I wouldn't say it is particularly new.

Carrots are for Rudolph at Christmas. Easter carrots can fuck off.

I hate the concept of celebrating Easter Eve, I hate dimwits saying Happy Good Friday, have a bit of respect. Friday and Saturday are days of solemnity, calm and thoughtfulness for me. And then comes the joy of Easter morning.

soontobeamama · 09/04/2022 23:07

@SalmonEile

Maybe we’ll end up with some shite like we all have to leave glitter covered carrots out or the Easter bunny will tell Santa that the kids have all been naughty and shit in their Easter eggs Are Easter eve boxes a thing yet? I need Easter pjs for my egg hunt, or perhaps matching Easter tracksuits could be a thing - look insta stylish as you whomp little Johnny out of the way and grab an egg

(Seriously though I love Easter really )

I actually saw Easter Eve boxes in Home Bargains the other day - couldn't believe it! 🙈😫

@OutingHobby

I like to buy Christmas cards with unexpected animals on. Dolphins was a good one.
I have a Christmas tree decoration which is a dolphin in a stocking!
thecatsthecats · 09/04/2022 23:13

We had new sprouting branches for Easter, and always a new piece of clothing. They're very old traditions, not new ones.

Stick with a bird table and the robin keeping watch for Santa. They flutter about 7 days a week 364 days a year.
