@Whatwouldscullydo

This may sound strange but My dad spanked me. I.was hit with wooden spoons or hair brushes. Hands sometimes. Occasionally a stick/cane. And yes it hurt but it stopped me doing whatever i was doing . I dont actually think I'd have cared if I was grounded. Not like i had any friends in primary school. I'd have missed my snail friends but the tree would have still been there a day/ week later. We didn't have phones or ipads or computers when o was growing up so what would they have confiscated that I'd have cared about losing ? The naked headless barbie dolls in the toy box?

It was horrible , but then you hear of all the kids out til god knows what time, texting older men , drink, drugs, truancy and I am grateful inwas smacked and not allowed to rub riot and maybe be one of those kids with an.asbo and a drug habit. I worry about what could have been if all.i got was sat in a corner.

Anyway still, I can't imagine smacking my kids. But I did /do live with the fear of what i can do the day neither give a shit about phones or ipads or TV.

I don't smack my kids now teenagers. They don't run riot, use drugs, have an asbo etc etc. They are good kind well adjusted teens. They didn't need smacking they needed to be listened to which built a strong relationship between me and them. That and disapline which does not involve abusing them is what put them on the right path

I just know what i was like as a kid. I was a stubborn cow who could hold out a long time in a battle of wills and think of an excuse for everything and anything. My parents had a lot of failings with me, I was woefully un prepared for life. Far to unaware of alot of things. I sneakily watched alot of horrors as a kid so of I'd have come across a vampire in a dark ally I'd have known what to do. Real life stuff not so much. Think in.still learning at 40+ too.

But one thing I feel they did get right was that I know what's right and what's not. Probably why I could never smack.my own kids. And I learned how to he homest and trust worthy. I will never know if I would have learnt any other way. I mean it was indeed my critical thinking of spanking etc that contributed to how I think and what I know and how to this day.

As I said it probably doesn't make much sense to anyone who isn't me. But I remain grateful that what ever it was they did, they did it.
