To wonder what makes an area “posh”?

Just came back from a friend’s house in a very leafy suburb of West Midlands city. She loves talking about how posh it is where lives but I asked her what does it mean to live in a posh area? How do you know it’s posh? She couldn’t really answer my question and the area was very average.

How do you define a “posh” area?
@cafedesreves if you are unable to bag a "posh" house in London with 2 million to spend you are bloody fussy! It certainly isn't the house that is the issue.
Totally agree 😁

Just wouldn't describe Hackney or Holloway as in any way posh but regularly see houses on for that... I don't live there btw or in a 2 mil house 😂

Honestly. OP said posh not celeb status. We are talking POSH I know it's relative and we all live in various cities but Christ.

In the North there's a very nice posh over priced area and it has a an Aldi, Independent butchers fruit shops. The snobbery Grin trying to say if Starbucks is near by it some how isn't posh and Costa.

Well... I wouldn't turn my nose up. I can put up with Lidl/Aldi it's where I go anyway Smile

Starbucks and Costa. One is owned by American financiers, the other by Coca Cola. There's no argument as to which is the most posh, neither are. They are all part of USA cultural colonisation of our High Streets and admirers are welcome to them.

What are you talking about?

I was meaning the fact that you have an Aldi in your area... doesn't mean it isn't posh. I've seen waitress in places that aren't posh... means nothing sometimes

Sorry, @Dairymilk50, just a general rant against every high st being cloned, dont take it personally. We have both here and an Aldi next door to Waitrose. Jack Wills, Joules, Fatface, Sea Salt, Ivy, Rick Stein, Blanc, Wagamama, TKMaxx, Primark, Iceland and Poundland. Something for everyone.

So it’s not necessarily what’s on the local high street, it’s more about the inhabitants income and their homes.
