With the law changing around covid I realise we are all being asked to do our bit and stay home if we can.

Are your employers issuing guidance to say that you shouldn't come to work if you have covid?

If so do you get paid?

Posties are being told go in unless physically too unwell. It's spreading like wildfire amongst them as absence due to Covid is treated exactly the same as any illness and they are penalised if off too much.

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/04/2022 21:30

I'm in Scotland so we still have to isolate. However I'm on a zero hours contract so even in height of covid if I was off ill with it I'd receive no pay. Even now is the same. I'm not sure about ssp tbh. But I don't even know if I get it.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 08/04/2022 21:30

No testing - never has been. Work if you feel up to it and no pay for first three days off ssp afterwards. Usual time frame for dr note.

No one is going sick.

WhereHasSpringSprungTo · 08/04/2022 21:32

Dh boss went crazy when dh had it. Told him he had to go in as they're sick of covid shit.
Dh didn't and gp signed him off to save the backlash from the boss.

@Mickarooni

” We've just had a memo that we no longer get paid by the company for covid isolation, but we have to be off (also care home) though if they didn't think they'd get lynched by relatives if it got out, I reckon there'd be pressure to work with it. As far as I know it's a case of a covid isolation note and then SSP, which even on my shit wages is 1/4 of my weekly earnings.”

@Maverickess
‘Clap for carers’ and ‘NHS and social care heroes’ long forgotten, eh? :(

Just another reason why I'm quitting care, getting a couple of quid an hour more in a shop as a supervisor, same rules apply to covid but at least I'm earning more in general. Sick of being taken for a mug.

Sad isn't it.

Yes we are told to stay home and (if possible) work from home if well enough. And yes we are paid. It's going through the organisation like a dose of salts atm.

WonderWomansBoobs · 09/04/2022 07:29

Im in retail we have to go in if well enough. I had it a few weeks ago (the week the covid grant stopped annoyingly) and went in. I felt awful that I could have passed it onto customers or colleagues but tried to keep my distance and antibac'd regularly. Not much we can do when we don't get paid for being off now.

user1487194234 · 09/04/2022 07:56

Can't really expect people to stay off work if not getting paid unless that is the law

user1487194234 · 09/04/2022 07:59

m in Scotland so we still have to isolate
Not true,it's only guidance

user1487194234 · 09/04/2022 16:44

Guidance
Not law

CJay81 · 09/04/2022 17:01

I'm Wales and work in a supermarket, from tomorrow get don't get paid for self isolation. Loads of us were off with it a couple of weeks ago and were lucky we got paid. Now it's back to normal, no sick pay for the first 3 days. So anyone who has it will just be going im unless they are really unwell.

GrandTheftWalrus · 09/04/2022 17:07

Guidance Not law
It still says to isolate. It's the one rule that hasn't changed.
Svara · 09/04/2022 17:13

We stay home if ourselves or a household member tests positive, until a negative test. No proof required. So the regular malingerers are taking full advantage and getting away with it.

If any of my staff were unwell whether Covid or not they should be off sick
If no symptoms - I would expect them to WFH - test on day 6 and 7 if still positive to continue WFH until day 10/11

anyoldname76 · 09/04/2022 18:10

No my employer told my colleague to come in, but told her to tell everyone she was negativeHmm, hence now I've got covid and feel like shit

Jdiosmio94 · 09/04/2022 18:27

If you are sent home by your employer because you have covid or symptoms of covid you MUST be paid to work if you feel you are physically capable of doing so.

WelshyMaud · 09/04/2022 18:30

We're 50/50 home and office.

If you have covid or if anyone else in your family has they tell you to WFH for a week or two. Same job and pay.

MordredsOrrery · 09/04/2022 18:30

We're expected to stay away for 10 days minimum if we, or someone we live with, tests positive. Once we test negative after that we can return. Almost all roles are still done from home and everyone has the necessary kit so, assuming you're well enough to work, you just carry on. If you're too ill to work you take sick leave. If you're one of the few not set up to work from home there's special leave so nobody is unpaid. My employer is very risk averse and we have a number of other restrictions still in place at the various offices, too.

user1487194234 · 09/04/2022 22:16

Grand theft
It is only guidance
That's an absolute fact

SirChenjins · 09/04/2022 23:42

It’s not ‘only’ guidance - it sets out what you should do if you have covid. If you mean it’s not the law then you’re right - but if you ignore it or you insist your employees ignore then you’re a complete arse who’s contributing to the high rates and all the problems that brings.

underneaththeash · 10/04/2022 00:42

I'm a HCP so we still test 2x a week and don't come in until negative. BUT we have close contact with elderly patients.

GrandTheftWalrus · 10/04/2022 00:44

Show me where in Scotland it says it's only guidance, we still have to wear masks in shops/buses etc
