With the law changing around covid I realise we are all being asked to do our bit and stay home if we can.

Are your employers issuing guidance to say that you shouldn't come to work if you have covid?

If so do you get paid?

Our covid policy is still in place -- stay home, WFH if you're well enough & the role allows, and yes it is paid.

Yamaya · 08/04/2022 12:36

We have to go home for 5 days then come in wearing a mask for 5 days. I am in today on day 8 wearing a mask but still testing positive. I feel bad for my colleagues.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 08/04/2022 12:39

If we have any illness we work from home if not too ill. If too ill to work from home we get full sick pay.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/04/2022 12:41

Yes not to come in if testing positive, can WFH if feeling well enough, if not off sick with full pay

We go in unless we are so ill that we can't physically work. That's fine by us.“

Don’t you worry about making someone else ill?
Considering that two of my colleagues are anti vaxxers who have refused to test and the rest of them are all of the opinion that we just need to get on with it, then no, I don't. I did have a week off when I had covid as I had a dreadful cough and felt exhausted and I felt really guilty as others only had a couple of days off“

Ok, in those circumstances fair enough.

EBearhug · 08/04/2022 12:42

We can WFH if well enough, or get sick pay. We are not meant to be in if showing symptoms, and definitely not if testing positive.

A lot is going to depend on the job role and organisation - I can work pretty much anywhere I have a network connection. Not all jobs can be done remotely, so you need to be sure you're not comparing apples and oranges.

blibblibs · 08/04/2022 12:45

Not allowed to go in, employers would have us in but governing body don't allow it.
Get SSP so this week is going to be tough.

RampantIvy · 08/04/2022 12:46

@Turningpurple

Our company is still hybrid. They are remaining that way and changed the whole sickness policy. If you feel unwell, but we'll enough to work you stay home.

Its really made them look at how they view sickness in general. They really want to cur down the spread of any illness where possible.

My company are the same. If we test positive but feel OK we WFH. It's the most sensible option.
Bagadverts · 08/04/2022 12:47

As we can wfh policy is do not attend if have symptoms.

I realise that this is a luxury that some others can’t afford. If an employee won’t be paid I won’t judge them going in if an employer requires it. As pp says they have bills and I’m sure quite a lot of these employees can’t afford to miss a week of pay.

incognitoforthisone · 08/04/2022 12:50

Yes, we're told not to come in, and yes, we get paid. If we're well enough we can work from home if we want to, and if we're ill we get full sick pay like we would with anything else.

Heatherjayne1972 · 08/04/2022 12:53

Still having to test twice a week as before We have to stay home if we test positive until we get negative result regardless of how unwell we might be or not
Then if feeling well enough we can return after 10 days (or 5/6 if negative and well)

No sick pay in either of my jobs

Maverickess · 08/04/2022 12:55

@CheapFoodShits

We have to stay off if we get COVID (care home). I tested positive this morning. It has been the case the whole way through that staff who are off with COVID get full pay, but I have no idea if that is still the case. I really hope it is.
We've just had a memo that we no longer get paid by the company for covid isolation, but we have to be off (also care home) though if they didn't think they'd get lynched by relatives if it got out, I reckon there'd be pressure to work with it. As far as I know it's a case of a covid isolation note and then SSP, which even on my shit wages is 1/4 of my weekly earnings.
Aimee1987 · 08/04/2022 12:57

I'm at home sick but will work from home once I'm better (university). DPs work (high street bank) are "following goverment guidelines" which means unless hes too I'll to work he has to go in.

URMyStarship · 08/04/2022 13:03

Nope. Work in a school. Nobody I know among colleagues is routinely testing anymore. No message to self isolate if the odd rare person did test and find they were positive. It’s back to the old rules - stay at home if you’re too sick to work, otherwise, come in.

I think almost all staff and around two thirds of kids have had it at this point. A few staff have long covid from having it in the first wave, but nobody has been seriously ill.

URMyStarship · 08/04/2022 13:04

Also don’t get covid sickness ‘written off’ anymore. It goes on your sickness record now.

anothernamedoesntsmellsosweet · 08/04/2022 13:08

Yes we are asked to work from home if we or any of our households have a positive test

Echobelly · 08/04/2022 13:10

Yes, this was mentioned in and all-hands meeting where they said people shouldn't come in with symptoms.

Sartre · 08/04/2022 13:10

DH’s employer has said anyone who lives with someone who tests positive has to stay home until that person tests negative. They get paid in full. DD tested positive Tuesday then DH did yesterday so he’ll be off now till they both test negative.

ifoundthebread · 08/04/2022 13:12

My company don't care if you have covid. If you are well enough to go to work, you can go. If not then ring in sick like any other illness, don't get paid for the foret 3 days, ssp after that. Guidance is If you have covid, wear a mask and try keep your distance.

mrburrsir · 08/04/2022 13:14

Well I don’t have any flow tests anymore (like many people) so no way of knowing unless we pay. My workplace is the type of place that would likely be unimpressed at people paying for LTFs getting positive results and staying off 🙄

It’s pretty much a case of only stay off if you are too unwell to physically work. There are lot of better more understanding workplaces on here!

Clevs · 08/04/2022 13:15

I'm currently off on full pay with Covid. I can go back if I have negative LFTs on day 5 and day 6. If I don't get negatives on day 5 and day 6 I have to keep testing until I get two consecutive negatives before going back. I also have to be apyrexic (no temp) for 48 hours before going back.

Egghead68 · 08/04/2022 13:17

Mustn’t come in. Paid if working from home. Not paid if not working

Fupoffyagrasshole · 08/04/2022 13:20

yes - on full pay though!

gamerchick · 08/04/2022 13:24

Technically we go in unless the test is positive. I've asked about now when people won't be buying tests but my boss didn't know. Personally I'll be going in unless I physically can't. I don't get paid for being off at all.

ButtOutBobsMum · 08/04/2022 13:24

Legally your employer must pay you full pay if they are requiring you to remain away from work but you are well enough to work. So if you can’t work from home, are covid+ but well enough to work you are entitled to carry on working. Your employer can’t force you to stay at home and be paid either company sick pay or SSP because you are not unfit for work.
