To be upset they didn’t invite me?

My family are meeting up for drinks tonight to celebrate my sister’s fiancées birthday. My sister works for me but nobody mentioned a thing. I asked my sister what she was up to tonight just as general conversation and she said she was busy so couldn’t do anything. When I asked her what she was up to she said she was seeing my mum for a drink. Not thinking much of it I messaged my mum to see whether I could come for a drink; not mentioning my sister. She said she was going to the pub, again not mentioning my sister. I said I know, with X and X, can I come along? She said no.

I just find it odd how secretive it all is and and am upset I wasn’t invited but more upset they dodged it and didn’t even tell me. It’s not that it’s a drink but a birthday celebration and it hurts a bit to be excluded, when we’re normally a close knit family.

AIBU to be upset?

If you’re usually close knit and would usually be invited, perhaps they want to have a conversation in private for some reason?

Obviously people on Mumsnet can't tell what is going on with your family. However it sounds like your Mum might be the problem. Why would she begrudge your business doing well? A good mother would be happy it was doing well! Maybe your sister is worried and trying to manage your mother's behaviour by not inviting you. I would talk to your sister separately at work and maybe consider adding a bit of distance to your relationship with your mother. She doesn't sound nice. Good Luck with this.

Im a bit on the fence, So is it your dsis and your parents out for her partners bday? Would you normally go out and celebrate his birthday?

Reading the OP - my first reaction is that we need to know the backstory.

Then reading your later posts it is just confusing.
How can you say you are close knit, and also say your Mum is nasty ?

I mean, there is no obligation for every time a Mum meets up with one of her dc for it to be a whole extended family gathering. I go out of my way to give all my dc some individual time, so that on it's own isn't necessarily odd to me. However, the way you are describing your family on here is.
