Privatising Channel 4 is a terrible idea. I hope it doesn’t work out.

Hardly a contentious opinion

DuncinToffee · 05/04/2022 10:57

Reminder that only 5 months ago she didn't know how Channel 4 was funded

Merrymouse · 05/04/2022 11:02

Very much doubt that she understands much about finances of Netflix and Amazon if she thinks those are business models C4 could copy.

She also had fuck all idea of how the EU worked. Remember how outraged she was that leaving the EU meant we didn't get a say in how they run ?

Leave-voting MP Nadine Dorries slams May's Brexit deal because UK won’t have seats in European parliament

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/nadie-dorries-slams-brexit-deal-leave-remain-jk-rowling-a8639216.html

(We never quite got her "thinking" - a word you really have to use in the loosest sense with Nadine Dorries - on how Boris deal was any better)

If you voted for her then you too are thick as mince and too stupid to realise it. No ifs. Not buts. No maybes.

Cornettoninja · 05/04/2022 11:15

She shouldn’t have been issued an ID pass for parliament never mind given a position in the cabinet.

She’s just a terrible, terrible example of a human being. Really awful.

I feel sorry for parents today. Fuck all point in encouraging learning, compassion and respect when you are insulted daily with this shower of arseholes for your kids to see.

Imagine being a teacher ?

And let’s not forget the time she asked Microsoft when they were planning to get rid of algorithms.

@pointythings

Criticism of Nadine Dorries is nothing to do with her being a woman, it's to do with her being a stupid incompetent asshat.
Quite. I'm happy to also criticise the entire cabinet, none of whom should be in a position of authorityand none of whom I would want nursing me either.

@RandomThought96

Ministerial jobs are only being offered to those who backed Brexit. So the talent pool is extremely limited. Dorries at Culture? Priti Patel at the Home Office? Grant Shapps at Transport? All pretty average people who are hopelessly out of their depth in their current roles. In the past mediocre ministers would be supported/guided/reigned in by the civil service. But there is now a lot less talent in civil service roles and ministers rely more and more on political advisors and lobbyists. The mess we see across government today is the result.
Spot on
Cornettoninja · 05/04/2022 11:41

The front benches currently look like a bad sitcom. If Miranda turned up wittering ‘what fun!’ I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/04/2022 12:04

Dorries is the reason why I believe Amazon should have an option on book recommendations to NOT have anything from a particular author ping up.

She makes Jeffrey Archer look like Dostoyevsky.

Aside from being forced to deal with things as they crop up, there is also no real direction in government because Boris doesn’t have any particular beliefs except that he should be PM.

On policy issues the PM is lead by whoever he spoke to last and what they promised to do for him. If the backbenchers want to get rid of C4 news, who is he to stand in their way if they promise not to send in a letter.

DuncinToffee · 05/04/2022 12:17

Johnson is probably still upset about being represented by an ice sculpture on C4

LittleGwyneth · 05/04/2022 12:20

She's a fucking idiot.

Cornettoninja · 05/04/2022 12:26

I didn’t know she’d been a nurse, I had a little Google and it turns out she was a nurse for four years and then became a medical rep and never set foot back in a hospital as a nurse again.

This quote "I lived in a nurses' home in Bewsey Road and we had maids that came in the morning and they used to tell me stories about the war and bases and the dances they used to go to at Burtonwood” suggests to me that she’s got very little insight in to what being a nurse means over forty years later.

Only because it made more sense.
IsThePopeCatholic · 05/04/2022 12:28

Dorries and culture are 2 words which should never go together. She is a disgrace.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2022 12:29

The closest she's come to culture is eating a yoghurt.

ddl1 · 05/04/2022 12:45

@Polyanthus2

Theses bloody woman upstarts - how dare they have a senior post - we need to get a man in toute de suite.

Really women need to! accept they aren't up to these kinds of jobs. And a former nurse - pfffft

It's nothing to do with being a woman. It's to do with being her.

To give just one example, Maria Caulfield is a woman- and a nurse- and a Tory, and I disagree with most of her views, but I would never speak about her as I do about Dorries. Caulfield gave some of her time to help on Covid wards during the pandemic; Dorries would never do anything so useful.

www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/watch-the-moment-nadine-dorries-realised-channel-4-is-not-paid-for-by-taxpayers-318414

And fuck off with the faux "it's because she's a woman" bullshit. Idiocracy has no sex, gender, race, age or any other qualifiers. Stupid is as stupid does.

Leave-voting MP Nadine Dorries slams May's Brexit deal because UK won’t have seats in European parliament

It's perfectly obvious what she meant (2018) - stuck with a UK-wide backstop but with no seat in the European parliament (worst of both worlds). Lots of MPs agreed with her - which is why May's Brexit deal failed to pass three times.

Havanananana · 05/04/2022 16:41

Let us not forget her Bill to control what people can say on social media, including banning threatening messages.

What would she make of someone who posted the following threat on Twitter:
Be seen within a mile of my daughters and I will nail your balls to the floor… using your own front teeth. Do you get that?

I taken in the round, she's thicker than two short planks and if that was her intent (which it wasn't by the way) then it's merely proving that stopped clocks are sauce for the gander when their backs are to the wall.
