Cryptic pregnancy or stupidity?

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:15

Weird question I know. Probably just paranoid so feel free to rip into me.
It started a few days ago, I noticed my boobs had gone up two cup sizes. My stomach is incredibly bloated (see pic). Last night I felt what felt like movement in my stomach and it suddenly feels very swollen, told myself it’s just gas but did a test to be sure and as expected it was negative as the last time I had sex was November last year.
Surely to God if I was 5-6 months pregnant a test would have picked it up? Should I just forget it and stop being paranoid? Or is cryptic pregnancy a real thing?

Cryptic pregnancy or stupidity?

Are you still having periods? Were you on contraception when you last had sex or was it unprotected?

I think it would be rare for a preg test not to be positive if you were actually this far into a pregnancy. Could there be a psychological aspect i.e. phantom pregnancy?

I think you definitely need to see your gp?

Stath · 04/04/2022 10:19

I’m sure cryptic pregnancy has been proven to be non existent.

A few questions:

When was your last period?

What age are you? (Ie are you possibly peri menopausal)

Have you been pregnant before?

Any history of ovarian cancer in your family? (Sorry if that’s scary).

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:21

Thanks girls. Still have periods although they have been weird, being a week late etc when I’m like clockwork normally. I thought I was just being paranoid haha

…have you tried to palpate your abdomen?

If you lie on your back and feel for your pubic bone then, if you’re pregnant above 12 weeks, you should be able to feel your uterus as a hard ball above the bone.

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:23

I don’t want to be pregnant for a second so I don’t think it could be psychological. It was the movement in my stomach that got me! I’ve already got a little girl so I know the feeling and it stopped me in my tracks. The sex was unprotected back in November stupidly

Think I’d call the GP tbh

Porcupineintherough · 04/04/2022 10:23

Is your tummy hard when you press or soft? Pretty sure that levels of pregnancy hormones drop off later in pregnancy so I dont know how reliable a test would be then. What do the test instructions say?

Maternitynamechange · 04/04/2022 10:23

Any abdominal/ gas issues feel just like baby movements to me. When it’s really bad I can see my stomach move.

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:24

Trying this now! I’ll be back with results haha

There was a MN thread last year with the approximate title of "Something just rolled or moved inside my stomach" and it turned out that was a woman who was pregnant and only realised it 6 months in when the baby started moving.

Everything about that thread started off like an impossible scenario but it genuinely had a happy ending. She also updated it after the birth. If you find it, it might have some useful info in there.

Rinoachicken · 04/04/2022 10:25

And yes to lying on your back - if it’s a baby, it’s got nowhere to go so will feel like a bowling ball on your stomach - if it’s not a baby, it will…spread?!…and you’ll be able to press it in with your fingers all over.

Probably still worth a GP visit, it sounds like something hormonal is definitely going on

MimiSunshine · 04/04/2022 10:25

You need to see a GP

Ponoka7 · 04/04/2022 10:26

You need to see your GP. As well as pregnancy, they are the symptoms of Ovarian cancer.

WeCouldBeSpearows · 04/04/2022 10:27

The chemical that pregnancy tests pick up on starts dropping from about 3 months gone, so it's possible that you got a negative for that reason.

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:30

Can’t feel my uterus so that’s a positive but this is my stomach when lying down so quite bowling ball like I’d say haha
I think I’ll have a chat with the gp as a lot have suggested

Having said that, I've just googled and apparently it's not common for that to happen - some people say it's not a thing, others say it's rare, so I don't know.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 04/04/2022 10:34

Is your abdomen that size all the time? If it comes and goes it’s more likely a digestive issue. If you’re constantly very bloated it could be pregnancy?

Is it hard? Lie on your back and you should be able to feel the top of your womb (and the baby if there is one) by this stage.

Movement’s a tricky one as lots of non pregnant women report ‘phantom kicks’ and intestinal cramps or gas moving in your intestines can feel like a baby rolling or squirming. Worms (eg roundworms and tapeworms) can also cause bloating and movement in the abdomen so i’d see a doctor regardless!

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 04/04/2022 10:36

Separated stomach muscles op..

BingBangB0ng · 04/04/2022 10:37

I have a friend, who had already had one baby, who didn’t realise she was pregnant until 30 weeks. I’d read similar stories and assumed they were just in deep denial, but she had no reason to be. She just genuinely didn’t know. She’s quite overweight so that might have contributed to her not recognising it.

It’s not like this all the time no, I’m a size 16 so not a small girl but my stomach doesn’t look like this. I’ll have a feel of the top of my stomach now x

I think you need to see a doctor, regardless of your cryptic pregnancy theory, for investigation of your distended abdo.

Theresamagicalplace · 04/04/2022 10:42

Does your stomach feel more solid below your belly button? I'm 19 weeks and mine is firm (admittedly under a layer of squidge) up to there and then softer above it.

incognitoforthisone · 04/04/2022 10:42

I think you'd definitely be best seeing your GP about this - lots of things it could be, most of which aren't serious, but there are things the GP would want to rule out.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/04/2022 10:43

Lots of things it could be but definitely see GP. There was a recent thread where poster was worried and other posters were suggesting gallstones also a possible explanation
