Cryptic pregnancy or stupidity?

MrsBCup · 04/04/2022 10:15

Weird question I know. Probably just paranoid so feel free to rip into me.
It started a few days ago, I noticed my boobs had gone up two cup sizes. My stomach is incredibly bloated (see pic). Last night I felt what felt like movement in my stomach and it suddenly feels very swollen, told myself it’s just gas but did a test to be sure and as expected it was negative as the last time I had sex was November last year.
Surely to God if I was 5-6 months pregnant a test would have picked it up? Should I just forget it and stop being paranoid? Or is cryptic pregnancy a real thing?

I'd be asking to speak to the practice manager. I know receptionists have to try & do some sort of screening but unless she's a qualified doctor doing some odd-jobbing she should not have given medical advice over the phone. A receptionist did that to DH's 'auntie' and she died two days later.

minniep · 04/04/2022 12:58

Sorry OP I've no advice but I'm fuming on your behalf after hearing about the receptionist. How dare she. Its none of her business why you need to see the dr

elliesmummy19 · 04/04/2022 13:02

I often get what feels like a baby moving but it's gas. This does sound like that tbh. I would be really surprised if you were pregnant but you should push to see the doctor anyway.

@DollyDingleberry

Oh god. So this happened to me but under very specific circumstances.

TTC for 10 years, 15 miscarriages, 12 or which were before 8 weeks so I'd been through a lot and due to totally irregular cycles I never knew when to expect a period.

Anyway, I had a 'period' then bled heavily 3 weeks later so assumed another miscarriage. Took a pregnancy test and there was a faint line so yep I thought - miscarriage again. We decided to stop trying because it was like the last straw. We then didn't have sex again.

Anyway, I had bleeds on and off on a roughly monthly schedules so assumed all was well. I'm a size 18 (this becomes important later). I thought I had a stomach bug about a month after the miscarriage because i was throwing up daily for a couple of weeks and felt really shite.

Anyway, 6 months after the 'miscarriage' (you can see where this is going) i suddenly got this walloping great 'roll over' feeling in my stomach that kept happening. It made me feel ill every time it happened (usually after eating) so I went to the doctors.

GP had a feel, immediately found my uterus and asked if i could be pregnant. I told her no because I'd not had sex since my last miscarriage, I'd had periods all the way through since then etc. Anyway, the midwife happened to be at the surgery that day so she grabbed her and her doppler and with a bit of wriggling about, we had a little heartbeat that wasnt mine Smile

I got sent up to the early pregnancy unit the next day for a scan and i will never forget the words in Feb:

'When did you say you miscarried?'
'July last year, why?'
'I don't think you actually miscarried. You're around 30 weeks pregnant and due in early April'

Lots of testing and scanning ensued, but all in all he was totally fine.

He arrived 3 weeks early, totally perfect and he's just turned 1 Grin

Oh. My. God! That's bananas! Wow what a surprise!
Mariposista · 04/04/2022 13:13

Bless you, go and see a doctor. Unlikely to be pregnant, if all the tests are negative, but this bloating isn't normal, or comfortable.

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 04/04/2022 13:18

Cryptic pregancies are definitely real, my DP had one. First we knew of her pregnancy was her going into labour.

She was on the pill at the time so periods were irregular and almost non-existent. She had breakthrough bleeding at times through the pregnancy so thought that they were her periods.

Due to her tilted uterus and the baby's position, she didn't really show, and couldn't feel kicks or baby moving.

She never used a pregnancy test but have found out since that they're not always accurate at a late stage. They test for hCG which starts to fall after 10 - 12 weeks.

Because we've always been quite open about what happened to us, in the last 14 years we've met 3 other couples who've found out they were pregnant either very very late or when they went into labour, mostly through friends who asked us if we'd be OK chatting with them when they found out.

Teddansononmyown · 04/04/2022 13:26

This is how my stomach got when I was diagnosed with ceoliac's disease a few years back. I was so big I had work colleagues congratulating me on my pregnancy-I looked around 7 months gone and carried the bloat exactly the same way as you.

I puff up like that now when I've been gluttened amd it's two or so weeks to deflate.

Are you fatigued? Fuzzy head? Teary? Sore lower back? Feelings of complete doom and dread? If so, it could be a new sensitivity to gluten or wheat.

sleepyhoglet · 04/04/2022 13:28

@1000yellowdaisies

Are you still having periods? Were you on contraception when you last had sex or was it unprotected?

I think it would be rare for a preg test not to be positive if you were actually this far into a pregnancy. Could there be a psychological aspect i.e. phantom pregnancy?

I think you definitely need to see your gp?

Actually don't they stop picking up after a certain time

That's amazing you must have been over the moon :)
bumpertobumper · 04/04/2022 16:22

Sperm can live for up to 10 days inside the uterus ( my evidence of this is now 7 yrs old), so your dates, while it's unlikely, do not rule out pregnancy.
Hope you get to the bottom of what's going on and get the outcome you want OP Thanks

MrsBCup · 05/04/2022 09:10

Thank you so much every one. I’ve been to the pharmacist who suggested Windeze Envy so I’m leaving it a few more days and then contacting the GP.
Don’t think the ‘bump’ has gone down much at all today xx

I would definitely try book a private scan just for peace of mind. Give them a phone and explain and I'm sure they'd be happy to book you in

Sidge · 05/04/2022 11:57

Pregnancy tests don’t stop working after a certain time - they detect from approx 10-25 mIU/ml which is a likely HCG level after approximately 10 days after ovulation and conception.

Even in the third trimester levels are likely to be 1000+ so will be detected by pregnancy tests. They reduce during pregnancy but not to below the levels detected by home pregnancy tests.

OP what’s your diet like? Have you eaten lots of processed foods or cruciferous vegetables? Are you constipated?

If you don’t fart or poo much in the next couple of days I’d be back to the GP and state you need to be seen.

Sara2209 · 26/04/2022 23:28
