Aibu to hate wings...

Light hearted. I came off the coil to ttc and got pregnant a few months later. So I've had like 4 periods in 6 years. Now they're back post partum and honestly when did it become so hard to find towels without wings.

Who invented these wing things and does anyone actually like them? I find they don't stick to my underwear and just stick to leg legs and chaif my thigh. I actually find non winged towels stay in place no problem. The winged ones end up moving.

Aibu to ask if people actually like these things?

Period pants. Honestly so much nicer than sticky plasticky pads. When I have my period I just put on a different pair of pants in the morning. Forget about it until I go to bed when I rinse out the pants and change into a new pair. I sometimes genuinely forget I have my period they're so comfortable.

Can’t bear towels full stop, myself. I found they all moved/chafed/leaked/stuck in the wrong places and were generally messy and deeply inconvenient. Fortunately, I have ghastly PCOS and no periods, so no need for the things these days. I swapped tampons for a mooncup in my mid twenties and while I can see they wouldn’t be for everyone, it was a vast improvement for me.

seven201 · 04/04/2022 00:05

I don't like winged ones either

HappyHouseWitch · 04/04/2022 00:18

I only ever buy them in error and they never fail to annoy me! My DSD recently started her periods and one my pearls of wisdom on the subject was to avoid towels with wings!
Incidentally I'm also not keen on Wings, much prefer John Lennox's solo work!

HappyHouseWitch · 04/04/2022 00:18

Lennon even!

FrankLeeSpeaking · 04/04/2022 00:19

I can't wear the ones without, they just crunch up into a useless wedge that ends up useless for the purpose! At least the wings keep the damn thing in place.

Scented ones, now....

watcherintherye · 04/04/2022 00:24

Now have Mull of Kintyre droning away in my head. Damn your lighthearted thread about wings, op! Grin

noodlezoodle · 04/04/2022 00:33

I'm with you. Wings do nothing to keep pads in place but do manage to attach themselves to my bikini line for that surprise waxing moment.

ChazzaGirl · 04/04/2022 00:44

Wings are a blessing. Who wants to wake up half way through the night with a towel stuck to the middle of their back?

WeirdlyKind · 04/04/2022 00:59

What sort of knickers do you wear? (sorry, I can't think if a less creepy way to ask that!) My sister wears microfiber pants and struggles with pads staying put - I wear normal cotton and they stick much better!

Washable pads are too bulky for me and rubbed my bits raw 😬☹️

This ^
Honestly I heard everyone on here raving about period pants. Bought some and can't believe how good they are. Environmentally friendly too. Sanitary towels, wings or not seem so out of date now.

Barcodescanner22 · 04/04/2022 01:08

@Northernsoullover

I hate them. I've gone back in time by using kotex mattresses. AKA Nightime pads. They are incredible. I feel so secure in them.
Me too.. until I had an ablation to get rid of periods altogether
Fidodidit · 04/04/2022 01:16

Before wings I’d find the pads would scrunch up, I’d leak all over the elastic then if I was somewhere I couldn’t change my pants (school) the blood would dry and I’d have hours of agonising leg chaffing until I got home. Hated periods at school (and the 3/10 toilets with the sanitary bins - otherwise have to use the one outside the cubicles in the corner of the room where someone was always hovering smoking). Post-wings, periods would a lot less of a pain (literally).

NearlyHeadlessNick · 04/04/2022 01:29

I couldn't buy them without! I don't want it moving around! I've definitely never had it stick to my leg. Reusables are the way forward though, I wish I had enough to get through my whole period, today I had to switch to disposable which are so much more uncomfortable. Looking forward to when I will have some spare cash for period pants... probably when the kids finish nursery!

NigellaLawdaughter · 04/04/2022 02:47

I was also thinking chicken wings, or perhaps bingo wings. Easter Smile

The wings are a bit hit or miss, they need to be applied properly,
or they unstick, and get a bit wonky.
Overall, they definitely helped stop several leak-throughs for me.

I do, on the other hand, really hate bingo wings! Angry

Ericaequites · 04/04/2022 05:28

I was thinking of an ancient American TV series set at an airport which my father liked. We had one TV with five channels which the Man of the House controlled.

KatherineJaneway · 04/04/2022 05:43

@AHungryCaterpillar

Thought this was going to be about chicken wings
Me too. I thought I had found my people 🤣
EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2022 06:16

Another one for reusables. Far comfier & no scent. I use Honour Your Flow & their night time pads, in particular, are terrific.

Goatinthegarden · 04/04/2022 06:24

I haven’t used pads since I was a teen, but I remember pads without wings would migrate up my pants and leak. Wings kept the pads in place, but they used to rub and chafe me so badly. I walked quite a lot and by day two of my period, I would have two red, raw lines on the inside on my thighs where the wings rubbed. My life was transformed by tampons.

If I was a teen now, I’d probably give period pants a go.

Sandinmyknickers · 04/04/2022 07:37

I'm with you OP, can't stand them!
I'm also quite petite so they never quite 'fit' as such and force me to wear the pad in a certain place so that the wings are bang in the middle whereas sometimes I prefer to adjust for more front or back coverage...not quite sure how else to explain..

I suppose my issue is that some people love them, some people hate them, but YANBU because I also have noticed that it's really difficult to find non winged ones unless you're in a bigger store. It's like wings have become the default. Why can't they just sell both in most places?

Narutocrazyfox · 04/04/2022 07:41

I cut the wings off if I can't get hold of the 'wingless' ones! I totally agree OP they're horrible.

I didn't get on with reusables, horrible thick uncomfortable things.

londonrach · 04/04/2022 07:43

Best invention ever. I leak without wings. Keeps the pad in place. Never buy a pad without now. Yabu

Sisisimone · 04/04/2022 07:45

Fucking hell, do people still use those horrible pads? Get yourself some period pants pronto!

notacooldad · 04/04/2022 07:47

I thought this was about Paul McCartney.
If it was op would not be UR.

crocus776 · 04/04/2022 07:50

Period pants are amazing.
