Holiday stress

bringbackthesun1 · 03/04/2022 19:17

Is anyone else going abroad soon and having a constant panic about covid ruining it? Am I just driving myself bonkers for no reason? No testing required where we’re going but obviously if someone is clearly unwell it’s an issue!

I know there are bigger world problems but we’re so looking forward to this holiday! 😓

Don't you have insurance? If someone is ill and unable to travel back home then you have to stay longer and your holiday insurance should cover this. I'm not sure what there is to worry about? Enjoy your holiday. It's not necessary but perhaps testing before you go will put your mind at ease?

bringbackthesun1 · 03/04/2022 19:35

Thank you for replying. Is the worry of potentially not being able to go. I know it’s only a holiday but the children are so very excited. And it feels like a huge deal. I have a real problem with worrying 😞

You'll be fine, we're currently in Portugal having driven through Spain, on a road trip and it's all good here. Have a good holiday.

mynameiscalypso · 03/04/2022 19:40

I've not really thought about Covid tbh. More worried about the BA chaos ruining our planned flights next week.

bringbackthesun1 · 03/04/2022 19:43

I’m an anxious traveller anyway but this is on a new level. Im on everyone like a hawk with every cough and sniffle. If someone wakes up on the morning with a high temperature then we’re done. Yes we have insurance but the thought of having to stay at home makes me so sad.

yellowblanketban · 03/04/2022 19:52

I'm more bothered about catching it on the flight and it ruining my holiday that I've waited 2 years for!

bringbackthesun1 · 03/04/2022 19:57

Well yes there’s that too!

LivingOnAPear · 03/04/2022 19:57

I know what you mean. I feel anxious this time too. I keep thinking I’m going to miss something as there’s so many rules now.

We are going to a non eu country but I’ve been obsessively checking the passport rules as ours have an extended expiry date. I just feel like we will somehow miss something and be turned away. I’ve travelled extensively on my own and never usually worry like this.

Aprilx · 03/04/2022 19:58

I am going on holiday soon and have a worry about testing positive because they won’t let me fly if I do. But other than that, no I am no more worried about covid than I am about breaking my arm or contracting any other illness.

Rifling · 03/04/2022 20:01

Yes! I'm not even going abroad but I'm still worried that if someone gets ill we'll lose our money (train tickets, accommodation etc.)

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 03/04/2022 20:04

Yes, I understand you. I'm at the stage where I no longer tell the kids any of our plans to save on their disappointment if/when it's cancelled. So no exciting build up to anything anymore...

PurplePinecone · 03/04/2022 20:47

I'm worried as the country we have booked a holiday to still has closed borders. My husband is holding out hope we can still go but I want to be realistic and accept we can't go and look for alternatives. The longer we leave it the more expensive everything is getting!

hotcrossbun83 · 03/04/2022 20:54

Was meant to be on holiday this week. We all got COVID last week. Holiday cancelled. It sucks even though insurance covered it, so disappointed and the kids were very upset.

HTH1 · 03/04/2022 21:02

If that’s Japan and you’re trying to go before summer, cancel now!
bringbackthesun1 · 03/04/2022 21:21

So very sorry to hear that @hotcrossbun83 😟 hope you feel better soon. Was it somewhere you needed a negative test to travel to?

OP posts:
marmitegirl01 · 03/04/2022 21:38

Yup. Due to go to NY in May half term. Me & teens. None of us have had COVID ( that we know) but what chance have we got of getting 3 negative tests the day before we go 🤷‍♀️
Will be Sod’s law. Cannot get excited. This is my big 50th celebration even though I’m now nearly 52 🤦‍♀️

RandomUsernameHere · 03/04/2022 21:40

Me. We're going to the USA in 11 days and so nervous someone is going to get Covid. I'm not allowing myself to get excited!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 03/04/2022 21:40

Yes! We don’t go for a while, I’m desperate for a holiday COVID better not ruin it!

AyeEee123 · 03/04/2022 21:41

Yes we’re supposed to be going to USA on Thursday. The six of us need negative LFTs on Wednesday and this past two weeks have been so stressful. It’s really ruined the fun build up.
We have insurance so I know it would be ok but we’re supposed to be going with other family members so the kids would be devastated if we don’t make it.

worriedatthistime · 03/04/2022 22:23

Yes im with you , worried one of us catches it just before and we can't go and is a group trip of 8 in total or worse still one of us gets it a day or 2 after arriving and misses the holiday
My last holiday abroad I was unwell for 3 out if the 7 days and ruined the holiday
All we can do is hope numbers are lower and practice some caution

Dinoteeth · 03/04/2022 22:42

Op I'm just back from a holiday that has been cancelled twice because of covid. My kids didn't know until the day before we left that we were going.

I couldn't bare to see the disappointment on their faces again after it was cancelled in January.

JazzyBBG · 03/04/2022 22:54

Placemarking. Dues my test on Saturday.

hotcrossbun83 · 04/04/2022 07:12

@bringbackthesun1

So very sorry to hear that *@hotcrossbun83* 😟 hope you feel better soon. Was it somewhere you needed a negative test to travel to?
Sort of. It was Abu Dhabi, you don’t need a fit to fly test any more but you do need a negative pcr within 14 days to get into restaurants etc. There was a chance we would be negative by the time we landed and took the test but too risky.
ChoiceMummy · 04/04/2022 07:45

Tbh, your anxieties are why at this point I'd never book an overseas holiday. Now add in the travel issues at airports, ports and motorways it's just going to be one big angst fest!

UK all the way this year!

Lottie4 · 04/04/2022 08:31

I understand where you're coming from. DD is on a year abroad with uni, and we're going out to see her soon. There just isn't a window to go any other times with course requirements and when we can get time off. If we can't go, we'll see her briefly end August before she goes back to a UK uni 660 miles away.

We both had it a couple of months ago and just weren't up to doing anything, so if we get it while away it's going to be stressful sorting accommodation that will have us (in a country much stricter than us) and getting food.

I had a bit of a sore throat last week and have been sniffy since. I suspect it's hayfever, but I'm sleeping in a different room from DH and keeping my distance as he wouldn't have time to recover if he caught after me.
