OH is making a fuss about me putting the cot up I'm having a planned c-section next week. He said it's just going to sit there and gather dust and he can't wait for his "new born baby to be sat in a cot full of dust" his words. Absolutely pathetic I said I'm going to cover it up anyway.

I don't know why is so bloody bothered!

AIBU? He is getting on my nerves Angry

Just put a sheet on the mattress then switch to a fresh one when you bring the baby home. Sorts the dust issue. Can you physically put the cot together yourself? If so just do it. Don’t do it if you think you’ll have difficulty physically (3rd trimester can be hard !) Your husband is weird. Doesn’t everyone put the cot together before the baby is born? You don’t want to be doing it afterwards!

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 02/04/2022 16:35

Is he superstitious maybe? Like the pram thing?

Thehop · 02/04/2022 16:35

I mean, if you’re using a Moses basket he could argue you won’t use it for a while but I liked having the cut up. It was nice to lay baby in there whilst I put their clothes away, had a quick shower, etc (and I really loved having it all set up to just sit in their nursery and wait for them haha!)

TempName01 · 02/04/2022 16:41

You’ll need his time for other things when baby is here and you are recovering, get it done now while there’s no stress.

TempName01 · 02/04/2022 16:44

You don’t have to put the mattress and sheet in yet

Crunchymum · 02/04/2022 16:47

Is baby going immediately into cot?

All mine were in moses baskets / cribs so our cot didn't go up until they were older.

Hankunamatata · 02/04/2022 16:47

I'm not superstitious but never put cot up before baby arrives.

babywalker56 · 02/04/2022 16:52

I put my moses basket together last week and baby is due in 3 weeks. I did it now because I know I won’t be bothered to do it once baby’s here. Plus where are they going to sleep? Surely you can’t do it once you come back from the C section? I’d just do it and cover the mattress and cot with a sheet. Put a new sheet on the mattress once you’re home with baby

LadyMaid · 02/04/2022 16:53

Aw. Bless. Smile
Its such an exciting time.

Just because your c section is planned. Doesn't mean you can't go into labour a little earlier.

I put up and set up my DC1 cot and basket nearly 3 weeks earlier than the due date.
DC1 was born the following day.

I put up and set up DC2 cot and basket over a week before the due date.
DC2 was born the following day.

Go with your gut.

FloralsForSpring · 02/04/2022 16:54

Is the plan for baby to go straight in cot or do you have a basket thing?

Thisismynamenow · 02/04/2022 16:54

I'm due in 4 weeks, I've had our cot in the bedroom and living room for about 2 months along with the stair gates.
However we have a dog we wanted to get used to the items.

neatlittlerows · 02/04/2022 16:54

My mum asked me not to put the cot up before my baby was born because she was superstitious. I said I wanted to because you never know what’s going to happen and I’ll probably not have the time again. I did it. Then she died a month before my baby was born and I was v busy planning her funeral instead of getting ready for the baby. I’m still not sure who won that particular discussion 😂

Do it and cover it up if you’re able to. Good luck!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/04/2022 16:54

We didn't even have our cot until DD was a few months old but if I had I think I would've wanted to put it up.

stuntbubbles · 02/04/2022 16:56

Get it done now. We didn’t put ours up before the baby for space reasons - tiny flat, had to displace some sitting room furniture for the birthing pool so needed everything back in place before the sidecar cot went up. God, the FAFF once we had a baby too. I wanted DP to be on baby duty so I could sleep/wash/howl, or I wanted him to fetch me food while I fed the baby, but he was on cot assembly and faffing duty instead and it was exhausting.

If you can assemble it, do it. How dusty is your house that it’ll get dusty in a week? How’s he planning to stop the same dust getting the baby dusty? Grin

Thisismynamenow · 02/04/2022 16:56

Also, does your husband not understand the concept of dusting? Lol.
Just change the sheets the day before your c-section

gogohm · 02/04/2022 16:57

I didn't buy one until dd was 6 months old unless you mean a crib? I would not put the cot up yet as it won't be used for months

SamanthaVimes · 02/04/2022 16:58

We put our cot up at least a month before I was due, just changed the sheet when she actually came home.
I wanted to have the nursery all set up and ready so we didn’t have to faff about with anything once DD was here and we were sleep deprived!

Oizys · 02/04/2022 16:59

If it’s not being used straight away because your planning to use a bedside crib or Moses basket then I wouldn’t bother putting it up yet!

I put ours up the night before we planned to move Ds into him own room

dontblamemyhormones · 02/04/2022 17:04

It's a next to me crib not a proper cot but it still took some assembling. Yes I could have left it until the night before but I don't see why it matters. He said it will just get in the way and gather dust.

I had the joy of putting up the next to me cot 4 hours after giving birth because I gave birth almost 3 weeks early. Would not recommend.

WonderingWanda · 02/04/2022 17:18

Sounds like you've done it op, well done!!

Is your oh in denial or superstitious in some way? Seems a bit miserable of him to say no. It's exciting, you are having a baby next week!! I'm excited for you Flowers

If he's not suspicious it sounds like he's a bit in denial? Anyway good luck x
Squashfordinner · 02/04/2022 17:20

I would set it up. Esp in the last week I was soo tired I just slept. I did not nest or set up anything at all and just rested.

I bought a chicco next to me and set it up 3 weeks in advance all by myself! (there was a bit of hoo ha between induction date, as they wanted me to deliver at 37 weeks but I was totally ok and baby was too (just did more ctg monitoring))..also having it up helped with our dog getting used to things

Just change sheets before you go in.

It’s a week! If the house is so dusty that the baby will be sat in a cot full of dust then he needs to do a lot of housework (and read up to see the age that most babies start learning to sit).
TheBigDilemma · 02/04/2022 17:23

DS nursery was ready, including cot one month before his scheduled arrival. I just didn’t put the actual bedding until we moved him to it but had a nice little blanket in the meantime.

I think your nesting instinct is kicking in, no wonder you are annoyed at him trying to stop nature run it’s course!
