Not very clear when in April it's due, my bill comes out on the 15th for example of this month, so would I need to wait until after then?

We've had a letter to say itll be with us by the end of June.

VampireMoney · 01/04/2022 18:59

June?? Oh no. I was relying on it arriving way before then.

CJay81 · 01/04/2022 19:03

Anyone in Wales know what councils are doing here? Not heard anything.

NoraButty · 01/04/2022 19:04

I got a letter saying it will be paid to bank accounts 10 days after the April Direct Debit is paid to them.

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 01/04/2022 19:06

@DragonOverTheMoon

I got mine yesterday and so did my work colleagues, but we work for the council and it came in our wage packet.
No you didn't, that was your backdated 1.75% pay rise for the 2021/2022 year.
JustLyra · 01/04/2022 19:09

Ours has been included on the bill so it's basically knocked a bit off the DD each month.

PrtScn · 01/04/2022 19:10

@Pinksalty

Got my new council tax bill about 3 weeks ago and it was on that.
I’ll have to check mine as my council has been dearthly silent about it.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve managed to wangle the accounts to make the council tax bill £150 more expensive than normal and then deducted the £150 from that so it looks like you’ve been paid £150 and it hasn’t actually cost them anything 😂

Jellykat · 01/04/2022 19:17

CJay81 i rang my local council (Pembrokeshire) and apparently theyre still waiting to find out how to implement it..Confused

BananaPlants · 01/04/2022 19:20

My council randomly took an extra £200 on top of my usual direct debit. No answer on the phones as “busy helping other customers” Hmm

XenoBitch · 01/04/2022 19:28

My council have just given a vague "later in the year" comment about it on this year's statement.
I don't pay by DD, so will probably have to apply for it.

BloodyRona · 01/04/2022 19:29

Very naughty - what if you move house out of area?
DragonOverTheMoon · 01/04/2022 19:29

@CatDogMonkeyPOW yes more money to come then! Thanks we all thought it was that!

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 01/04/2022 19:32

@pussycatunpickingcrossesagain

I feel quite sorry for the staff in the Council Tax dept. The way this has been organised is going to cost the Councils a fortune. Why didn't he just knock 10% off everyone on bands A-D which is equivalent to one payment?
My friend works in a council tax department they all said why did they just deduct it off the annual amount of the bill rather than mess about with refunds it's taking them hours and they have 12 temps they've taken on to help with it so costing a fortune no doubt too
Itsbackagain · 01/04/2022 19:34

Scotland Bill's came out last week with £150 taken off as discount. I don't pay by direct debit.

XenoBitch · 01/04/2022 19:35

I don't agree with it being taken off as a discount. People on council tax benefit wont be gaining anything from this at all. The aim of it was to help with rising energy bills.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/04/2022 19:43

Our council has put up a helpful FAQs section and they're intending to pay everybody by the end of April.

Tiredacheyandreadyforbed · 01/04/2022 19:45

My council has told me from the end of May!

boys3 · 01/04/2022 19:49

Or more cynically trying to shore up the vote in forthcoming local elections.
SilverDragonfly1 · 01/04/2022 19:57

Our council website cheerfully promised April 1st until a couple of days ago when it changed to 'end of April/ beginning of May'. Our council is particularly incompetent and untruthful though, so it wasn't a big shock to those of us who've had dealings with them in the past- I really feel for the people who did believe it and budgeted accordingly though.

Still, bye elections next month! Maybe the voters will remember being let down such a short time before and we can get rid of the Tories.

Just kidding! Voter memory around here seems to be about 6 minutes and the council will stay exactly as it is- and they know it.

boys3 · 01/04/2022 21:07

being a bit less cynical our council (exceptionally proficient at collecting council tax!) will apparently be issuing the rebate before end April for all who pay my direct debit.

Fretfulmum · 01/04/2022 21:13

Our council said 10 days after the direct debit is taken out so ours will be April 20th

Onanotherdiet38 · 01/04/2022 21:15

Just seems like everybody is being told something completely different!

OP posts:
StepMumto1 · 01/04/2022 21:17

@Onanotherdiet38 same council as me, I wouldn't get your hopes up to get it anytime soon they don't know their a*se from their elbow.

NothingIsCertain · 01/04/2022 21:18

@Onanotherdiet38

Yes it's the £150 I'm referring to. I'm in Salford council
I'm Salford, they have said on fb that it will be paid (if you pay via dd) once you have made your April payment.

If you don't pay by dd, they are going to write to you.

babymidgetgem · 01/04/2022 21:19
