How much do you spend on holiday shopping?

Am I BU to feel sick at home much I’ve spent on holiday shopping? Iv’e spent the most on the kids - summer shoes, pool side shoes, swimming costumes, summer clothes, summer hats, sunglasses. They didn’t fit into their summer clothes do I’ve had to buy them stuff. I’ve had to buy swimming accessories such as swim rings.

I’ve had to buy myself some dresses too as I can’t fit into old summer clothes (put weight on recently). I feel really sick at how much I’ve spent. I’ve put some clothes to the side to return tomorrow. I shopped in primary, next , George and H and M

Oh and I had a full body wax (£50), planning to get nails done. I’ve not realised before how much money goes into pre- holiday prep.

How much did you spend?

Cupcakegirl13 · 29/03/2022 19:30

Yes I was also going to ask the same how much are we talking here ?!

An034 · 29/03/2022 19:32

I’m going to count it all when kids asleep. But just in primary today I spent £135! This was dresses for my daughter, pool shoes, beach bag, swimming outfits for my son, shirts and shorts and also 2 pairs of shoes.

Primark, phone keeps autocorrecting

So just today it was £135 plus £50 for my wax. It’s ridiculous.

About £300

LubaLuca · 29/03/2022 19:35

All of these clothes would be needed for a summer at home anyway, if nobody had anything that fitted. Shorts and t-shirts etc are never a waste of money.

I'm intrigued by the full body wax. Presumably they leave you alone from the neck up...?

duvetdayforeveryone · 29/03/2022 19:35

If you can afford it I don't see what the problem is.

GrazingSheep · 29/03/2022 19:35

How many items did you get for £135?

An034 · 29/03/2022 19:37

@Montague22

About £300
Thank you. Is that just for you or you and kids?

@LubaLuca I imagine a full body wax is when a beautician wraps you up like a mummy with sticky wax then rips it off as it is unwrapped.

Really good point! Thank you. Yes kids had outgrown literally everything.

God I'll probably spend 6-700 on all of us as we haven't been abroad since before covid so the dc have no summer clothes and I badly need new swimsuits (1 swimsuit is 85!)
Don't worry @An034 it's part of the fun and holiday build up!

Thank you! I think it’s close to £500 what I’ve spent. I’m going to add up the receipts later. I feel so annoyed that I didn’t plan ahead n get stuff slowly.

Well 30% of what you spent today was on waxing which wasn’t exactly necessary.

Primark is obviously the lower end of pricing so I’m sure you got a lot of items for the price and since nothing fit the kids it sounds like it was mostly needed for the summer regardless of the holiday.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 29/03/2022 19:46

Enjoy your holiday

snakewillow · 29/03/2022 19:46

I have spent about £300 for 3 of us but didn't need many clothes so mainly on swimsuits, beach bag, beach towels, etc. Any clothes I bought would have been needed anyway.

DrCoconut · 29/03/2022 19:48

I just pack our existing clothes? Maybe replace a few items that are due for it if needed but that's it.

Caspianberg · 29/03/2022 19:50

Well some bits prob needed anyway if they literally had no basics like t shirts that will fit this summer.

Other things like beach bag I wouldn’t buy just for a holiday, do you not have any other bag that can be use to put beach towel and stuff in.
Pool shoes? They probably aren’t needed.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 29/03/2022 19:55

I just pack their existing clothes, and check a few weeks before we go that they have enough for a week or so, plus a few days either side!
I tend to buy ahead in sales though, or on vinted. I've picked up a few 'nice but not absolutely necessary' items that by daughter will love, but it's on vinted and got some lovely brands, with nothing more than £5, so I'm definitely not going to self flagellate Grin

gogohm · 29/03/2022 19:57

I'm not counting Blush. So far I've bought 2 evening dresses, a new trench coat, new jeans and sea sickness tablets - yes I'm going on a cruise

namechangeanonymous · 29/03/2022 19:59

I normally end up spending around £200 for me on a beach holiday but always stuff I can wear at home too, city breaks not too much maybe £50 ish. I always buy new pants for an holiday.

danishkids · 29/03/2022 20:06

We Would probably spend around 400-500
pounds for a family of 5. Although i keep all inflatables/armbands/pool toys etc from the years before, every few years we buy new ones as they burst or break.(but I al ate try to buy them on sale)

Although, dresses shorts and tshirts all get used at home, so I would buy them anyway. We buy sun cream when we get on holiday in a local shop. (Not at the retreat)

Although some years we only spend around 200 pounds if we already have swimwear that we can fit and swim shoes etc.

For around the pool
I try to use flip flops or sliders that we already have. But the often needs replacing every year.

Sun hats and glasses are new for the kids every year.

It doesn’t have to be expensive, it is what you make it.
