Size 10/12 if I lose 1.5stone will I change ring size?

Posting here shamelessly for traffic

I'm a size 10/12 and am just on the brink of moving into overweight category. Not sure I'll even manage to lose 1.5 stone but want to lose a stone at least.

Will my ring size change? I've gone up two sizes and wondering whether to go ahead and get my wedding rings resized and hold on?

I've put on about 1.5 stone over lockdown, some of my rings don't fit any more. So yes, it's enough to change ring size.

Coord · 29/03/2022 08:34

Actually not sure I understood now I reread OP - but if you lose weight, your ring size will go back down again.

minniep · 29/03/2022 08:34

Not in my experience. I put on a lot of weight after my second baby and lost over a stone afterwards and it all made zero difference to my hands.

WimpoleHat · 29/03/2022 08:37

Yes, I’d have thought so. I’ve lost a bit of weight since lockdown and my rings are a bit loose now.

Qwill · 29/03/2022 08:38

I don’t think that amount of weight should affect ring size that much especially if you are only slightly overweight.

MsTSwift · 29/03/2022 08:40

I lost 2 stone (bmi 27 to bmi 22 dress size 14 to 10) rings are noticeably looser but still wearable

DenverDoer · 29/03/2022 08:40

Yes, ring size is likely to decrease with significant weight loss.

After weight loss even my shoe size went down!

Anonmousse · 29/03/2022 08:47

If its a plain wedding band (1 colour metal, no diamonds) it can be resized easily. I would get resized to fit comfortably (ideally, it should feel comfortable and not restrictive whilst on, but have some resistance when you try to take off - ie doesn't slide off too easily) and then address the issue again if it becomes to big.

StrangeCondition · 29/03/2022 08:48

I've lost 4 stone, hasn't made a difference with my rings whatsoever

SartresSoul · 29/03/2022 08:48

Yes, definitely. I’ve lost a little over 2 stone this year and my rings fit again. They fit after the first stone I’d say.

Shellingbynight · 29/03/2022 08:50

I lost weight several years ago and my ring size went down after I'd lost about 2 stone (to the extent my ring fell off when I was doing some gardening).

If your ring is tight now it'll almost certainly fit fine when you've lost 1.5 stone. If it currently fits well you may need to size down. Hang on and see.

AndAnotherBill · 29/03/2022 08:51

After weight loss even my shoe size went down!

Really? Numbers please! This might be the incentive I need Grin

Member984815 · 29/03/2022 08:51

Yes it will don't resize if you plan on losing weight . I lost weight and now when my hands get cold i have to hold on to my rings with my thumb because they get loose

not unless you are 3'6 tall!

UptownWorld · 29/03/2022 08:55

Depends where you carry your weight. My ring size is the same whether I’m 8st or 11st. But others I know have ring sizing problems with half a stone.

UptownWorld · 29/03/2022 08:56

@Jossbow you’re wrong. I’m 5’4 and weigh 10st 4. I’m on the brink of overweight and I’m a size 10/12. Vanity sizing at its best!

I'm a size 10-12 and a few pounds off the overweight category. I'm 5'6.
stripeyflowers · 29/03/2022 09:00

My ring size always goes up or down depending on weight, yes.

wastedtwenties · 29/03/2022 09:05

Varied responses. I'll try and lose weight and reassess in a few months.

I've had two children but after the first was back to almost pre pregnancy weight.

I seem to be carrying mostly on my belly plus a little padding everywhere.

If it makes any difference I was a size J and currently size L so gone up two sizes..

I'm 5ft 1 and when I am 10 stone I am side 10-12 which is in the overweight category. I am currently 11st 4 and have a BMI of 29.9 so just under obese.
Beautiful3 · 29/03/2022 09:23

Yes it does.

Exactly the same here - same bmi and dress size loss. My engagement ring is inclined to turn on my finger occasionally but there is no danger of it slipping off so I guess I perhaps I lost one ring size.
Beseen22 · 29/03/2022 09:39

I have gone 2 stone either way (currently sadly at the higher end after an indulgent winter) and had 2 pregnancies and none have ever affected the fit of my rings

lljkk · 29/03/2022 09:43

Absolutely yes in my experience.

lljkk · 29/03/2022 09:44

ps: anorexic DD does a good job hiding how skinny she is, but I can tell how skinny she is by which rings she wears on which finger(s)
