Publicity exercise or not?

OP posts:
Whatsmyname100 · 28/03/2022 23:06

He acted like a complete wimp when this wife of his publicly had an affair, and he decides now is the time to act. He is unhinged. I think both him and his wife are vile.

LeavesOnTrees · 28/03/2022 23:06

It was Will comments after about taking her name out of his mouth that showed it was real. There was no joking there.

Katya213 · 28/03/2022 23:07

@AWOIF

Of course not. His wife was publicly humiliated in front of 100's of people. Go figure......
Yes, so that makes it absolutely okay to go slap somebody about the face.🙂
StrawberryStarfish · 28/03/2022 23:08

Chris Rock was trying to do a Ricky Gervais … they know people only watched the golden globes because of RG so the academy probably told CR to do something similar to boost ratings/interest. Trouble is, RG is funny … CR really isn’t

CrocodilesCry · 28/03/2022 23:09

I really can't see how it was a vile comment. It obviously hit a nerve but on the face of it, it wasn't vile in any way. Genuinely puzzled at why you're being so aggressive?

Itcanneverbesaved · 28/03/2022 23:10

It’s all a bit strange though 🤷🏻‍♀️Just feels weird.

Why was he laughing at the joke and then when he’d hit him, seemed to be sort of laughing walking away?

His speech was a bit all over the place…he seemed pumped up, was he on something.

I’ve always liked him, but this was odd…what has his wife done etc

nancy75 · 28/03/2022 23:12

Not set up:
Why would WS want to overshadow his 1st Oscar win with this?
Chris Rock would have made a better recovery if he’d known it was coming.
Would the Oscars & 2 well known & influential black men really set up a stunt playing in to the hands of a racist stereotype that black men are aggressive/violent?

CrocodilesCry · 28/03/2022 23:12

I actually think it's more about this.

He's been cuckolded in front of the world. I feel sorry for him in that sense. I think he lost his mind, doesn't make what he did right.

Itcanneverbesaved · 28/03/2022 23:14

Who did she have an affair with and how did he act like a wimp? Don’t they have some kind of arrangement that they can go with other people?

AWOIF · 28/03/2022 23:16

@vyebrator get a grip!!!! Don't compare a slap to domestic violence. (Rolls eyes)

StrawberryStarfish · 28/03/2022 23:17

I’m just watching the re-run of the whole Oscar’s now. When you watch it all I’m context it’s fucking awful and I actually feel sorry for Chris Rock (despite the fact that I don’t like him as a comedian/actor).

The fact that smith is carrying on as if nothing has happened is just unbelievable

Justmuddlingalong · 28/03/2022 23:18

I think it's a prime example of toxic masculinity behaviour. Him originally laughing at the comment, then seeing his DW roll her eyes, and whoosh, that's when he reacted. I think their relationship status isn't as amicable as they make out.

Discwriter · 28/03/2022 23:18

Just to add, I watched WS documentary on YouTube. I do think he is going through some serious mental stuff, why it is only expected from young females is perhaps a good question to ask.

nancy75 · 28/03/2022 23:20

It’s unbelievable that he was allowed to carry on as if nothing has happened. At very most they should have only allowed him to accept the award but not make any speech. Really he should have been removed.

Bouledeneige · 28/03/2022 23:22

I don't think it was staged but it was very odd. I can't think why he would choose to over shadow his long awaited Oscar. And the joke wasn't that terrible - unfortunate but not deeply disgusting.

WS fucked up big time. I don't know about you but if I was really offended and upset I wouldn't punch the perp and certainly wouldn't get up on stage and interrupt an event to do so and then keep shouting. Well weird.

Never liked Will Smith - I always found him and his family a bit smug.

Cantthinkofausername2022 · 28/03/2022 23:23

No definitely don’t think it was staged, to be honest I don’t understand why he wasn’t escorted out immediately after the incident?! Confused

flyingdream · 28/03/2022 23:27

Staged slap didn't look real nor did the guy look shocked.

Allsorts1 · 28/03/2022 23:32

@CrocodilesCry totally agree, he compared her to a very hot character with a shaved head. If I had alopecia I’d be offended that they found the joke so offensive to be honest! Surely you’d be like, yep I’m repping this look and still look great! It was a chance for some positive alopecia messaging but smiths reaction implied that it’s a death sentence and a subject not to be joked about ever. He should make a big donation to an alopecia charity.

Doyoumind · 28/03/2022 23:35

What purpose would it serve as a publicity stunt? Anyone who thinks that doesn't have a clue. There is such a thing as bad publicity and WS will pay a price for his actions - though likely not as high as he deserves.

nancy75 · 28/03/2022 23:46

What has surprised me today is the number of people saying Chris Rock shouldn’t have joked about JPS’ disability. While I know alopecia is awful to go through is it a disability?

burnthur5t · 28/03/2022 23:49

At this rate there will be more Will Smith threads than covid

Well done for starting another one op. You could have asked your pathetic question in one of the other seventeen

Itcanneverbesaved · 28/03/2022 23:49

@Discwriter What documentary please?

^^This.

Obviously the OP NEEDS her own thread. Posting on one of the 48 million others wasn't good enough.

Come on now you can't have it both ways.

You said "It wasn't the right thing for him to do, however I don't think he should be judged for it. He's human at the end of the day."

So why should violent men be judged for losing their temper at home?

He hit someone in their workplace and that's different to hitting someone in their home, how exactly?

Bippitybopityboo · 28/03/2022 23:57

He laughed, then saw Jada was mad and flipped. I think she's abusive/controlling. She's publically humiliated him alot of times. I think we saw a mentally drained man unraveling.
