To be really angry with On the Beach for using Christmas song in ad?

I've just seen someone posting about On the Beach and it reminded me how angry I get every time their advert comes on the radio!

I've never used them to book a holiday so my anger is slightly more trivial...I can't believe they're using a Christmas song in March!

After googling it I found out they actually brought out the advert on TV over Christmas. I didn't know because I don't have a TV but I do listen to LBC on the radio every day and in the last couple of weeks I've been hearing the On the Beach 'holidays start sooner' ad during every break and its driving me mental that they're forcing me to listen to a Christmas song in March!!

I'm very strict about not having Christmas songs on until at least 1st Dec every year and to be forced to hear a Christmas song every day when its not Christmas is really pissing me off! I turn down the radio every time it comes on. I don't know what they think they're playing at. Anyone else feel that a petition is needed to get them to stop this madness?

I agree it is totally wrong in so many counts i am surprised the rigorous tests set by the Advertising Authority

@Woodsie54 - do not be fooled by the Advertising Agency. They are as slack as anything. Quite useless in fact.

I have reported Ad's for being illegal and buggar all has happened.

They target the ones that interest individual personnel within the department.

It's a good advert in that you remembered it and what company it was for.

I see this argument a lot when it comes to advertising, but it doesn’t really make sense. If you remember you hate the On the Beach advert, and as such never book with them, the ad hasn’t done its job at all! People remembering what an ad is for is worthless if they don’t use the service afterwards.

The TV version of that advert does the reverse of what it’s supposed to for me. That family are a bunch of utter arseholes and it gives me the actual rage how awful they are.

I was too busy being mad at that to notice the Xmas music

This exactly , you watch the ad and think if that’s the type of person who goes on a On The Beach holiday then I definitely would not book with them .

Okay, to be realistic here. The ad is awful. If I wanted to pay a few thousand pounds to go on holiday with my family, I would NOT want to be anywhere near that obnoxious family! What WERE they thinking?

CURLYGIRL06 I am going to do the hand grab to dh next time the advert is on but I think he might tell me to go away

We were watching TV in bed one night when the advert came on, I dived over to grab his hand, he leant sideways and fell off the bed! I nearly wet myself laughing!

And yes, that hideous family on the On The Beach advert, where do you start on that one?

This . I'd AVOID booking with this company because of this family and the suggestion this is their target audience/ customer. Vile arrogant family

Agreed the family are vile! I especially hate the bit where the son gives the ‘see you’ gesture to other holiday makers when the family go through to the crap airport lounge.

Arhggg they are awful. I once went to an all inclusive in Greece where the hotel and the staff were amazing but lots of the other guests were exactly like this family. Put me off tbh.

OFGs. The ads are not ‘illegal’. You have totally missed the point that you are using the song ‘ironically’ and it’s a bit shit but no need to get so worked up about it.

I hate this advert and this company nowadays because they are promising free lounge access for every booking. Not only would I not want to go somewhere this family were staying, I use the airport lounge to actively avoid them and others like them. Not funny or clever.

The repurposing of what we've come to think of a Christmas song grinds a bit but the portrayal of the folks we could be on holiday with . . . boorish dad, pool bombing mum, arrogant son being mean to his sister, who gets not much of a look in. Same reason I didn't like the John Lewis ad where the girl had her things trashed by her brother.

OMG YES! THIS!!! I say every time it comes on how beyond annoying it is and it just seemed really past it to still be playing the ad in January when Christmas was over. Had no idea we’d still be putting up with it in March my god 🤦🏼‍♀️ You just don’t do that! Christmas songs are Christmas songs and nothing else!
