To be really angry with On the Beach for using Christmas song in ad?

I've just seen someone posting about On the Beach and it reminded me how angry I get every time their advert comes on the radio!

I've never used them to book a holiday so my anger is slightly more trivial...I can't believe they're using a Christmas song in March!

After googling it I found out they actually brought out the advert on TV over Christmas. I didn't know because I don't have a TV but I do listen to LBC on the radio every day and in the last couple of weeks I've been hearing the On the Beach 'holidays start sooner' ad during every break and its driving me mental that they're forcing me to listen to a Christmas song in March!!

I'm very strict about not having Christmas songs on until at least 1st Dec every year and to be forced to hear a Christmas song every day when its not Christmas is really pissing me off! I turn down the radio every time it comes on. I don't know what they think they're playing at. Anyone else feel that a petition is needed to get them to stop this madness?

Lots of 'Christmas' (and other) tunes get repurposed with new lyrics for other things. You just need to look at some of the American nursery rhyme crap that haunts streaming TV.

What I can't stand about the advert is its endorsing a grossly overweight kid loving shovelling food into his mouth at every opportunity.

Omg I must book a flight! We have a competition every time it comes on; I have to grab my dh's hand, like in the advert, and he has to not let me do it. It's lead to some hysterically funny incidents over the years.

It's so funny at home, he's sitting quietly on the settee, I'm reading the paper and the advert comes on- paper gets dropped as I lunge for his hand, he's hanging over the side of the settee yelling at me to get off, it's so funny!

I think it's pretty clever marketing tbh. Makes you look up and yes summer holidays are the most wonderful time of the year

We were stuck on a Jet2 plane for an hour on the runway, they played the Jet2 song on repeat for the whole time! Arghhhhhhhh

This. It doesn’t piss me off despite having binned my oldest friend for sending me a Christmas card with those words on the front two weeks after my mum died. If I can get past that, I’m pretty sure you can live with it @PinkStarAtNight.

Did I imagine WHSmith once upon a time using the same song in their adverts for back to school stationery?

I remember that ad, think it might have been for Staples? The dad was gleefully riding his shopping trolley up and down followed by sad looking kids 😂

It appears they are the awful family that Mumsnetters seem to live next to. They should be glad they are off on their holidays, 2 week's of peace

God yes - and you can’t even say ‘well it sticky in the mind’ because I can’t remember the name of the company (even through o just read the OP) and to me it’s just m that annoying company that uses Christmas music for summer holiday ads’

The advert would really put me off booking with them - who wants to be in the same hotel as a family like that?

Omg it drives me insane, its a Christmas song, and it just sounds so odd hearing it now.

I think the advert is brilliant! I now know who not to book through if I want families like that.

I agree it is totally wrong in so many counts i am surprised the rigorous tests set by the Advertising Authority

I think it's genius. And holiday time is the most wonderful time of the year, way better than Christmas so they have got that right.

No no no! It's a Christmas song and Christmas is far superior than a beach holiday any day! The Co-op used the same song a few years ago in their ads and it got pulled because it's not a Summer song...

I kind of get what you’re saying as I also hate hearing Christmas songs before Dec 1st, however, it’s clever. Summer holidays abroad are the most wonderful time of the year for me. So it works.

Totally agree. Christmas is a consumer tat fest at the darkest, coldest and most miserable time of the year, there's nothing wonderful about it.
