To put DS3 in a pushchair?

DS is 3, 4 in October. He walks everywhere now, we haven't used the pushchair in probably over a year. He sometimes goes in one when at childminder's.

Today I want to catch the train with him (usually drive) and then spend the day walking around a large shopping centre. He has a tendency to run off/complain of being tired and cry to be carried sometimes. I know that taking the pushchair would make life so much easier for me and DS.

I can also use it for shopping bags.

My friend thinks it's ridiculous having him in a pushchair at this age. AIBU?

We have 15 minutes to get from DS's Nursery to DD's school for pick up. The only way I can do that is by walking fast. DS can't walk as fast as me, he also wants to stop to look at every flower, stroke every passing dog, say hello to anyone who happens to be out mowing their lawn etc. So he goes in the pushchair even though he's 3.5yo. I couldn't care less what anyone thinks about it.

I don't own a car and we walk everywhere. I kept DS's buggy until he left nursery at 4. We used it for longer walks, nursery was a half hour walk from home and he was usually very tired by the end of the day.

I didn't drive for years and used to have my 3 year old, who would want to be carried after 5 minutes walking, in a pushchair. It was the only way of getting anywhere even slightly quickly. Don't listen to your friend.

Once she was walking well my daughter refused the buggy. She would act like a cat being thrown in the bath when I tried to get her into it. So I just used reins until I could trust her not to run in front of cars. Worked for us.

It really depends on whether he will use it. DD is 2.5 and she’s used her pushchair maybe once in the last 6 months, won’t get in it flat refuses normally. Brilliant for shopping bags, downside is when they won’t get in but you have to try to keep ontop of them while pushing a buggy.

My 4.5yo goes in the buggy everywhere.
He still naps during the day too. Pretty much every day.
We sometimes get a look, as he is really big for his age but I don’t give a shiny shit.

Me too. I walk everywhere. Kids can walk, go in the pram, on the scooter or (for a few years) in the sling. Those are the options. MN is always telling me that children from about 2 can walk everywhere. I just don’t know how? Either these people don’t walk that much and use a car a lot … OR these children are just not the norm?

My second is a much better walker than my first but still if we go out for a one mile walk on the school run.. that’s both ways twice a day for her (pre school), 4 miles and that’s even if we don’t do anything else all day.. it’s a LOT. She can’t even manage the full mile before deciding half way through she wants to be carried and then I get annoyed and it’s not fair on her. I’ll just bring the pram and remove that stress.

I am lucky because my children run small!

We didn't have a car so I used the buggy for dd1 until she was nearly 5yo for long distances.
Anyway, a buggy when shopping makes it so much easier as you have somewhere to put everything.

Yanbu to use a pram where necessary for a child that age.

But I kind of think yab a bit u to expect a 3 year old to spend all day going round a shopping centre. A couple of hours yes? A day no. Of course he will be bored senseless.

Mine is also a cat-in-the-bath 3-year-old (4 in November). I've just sold my buggy, as I couldn't push the buggy and hold his hand at the same time Grin
