DS1 and DS2 are driving me nuts and I'm not sure I can hold out from murdering them until tomorrow when they go back to school/nursery...

DS1 has been doing a great line in spoilt brattery and winding up his little brother correcting everything he says, saying whaaaaaat? in indignant fashion everytime I ask him to do something, bursting into tears every time I tell him off (you know, for things like BEING A COMPLETE ARSE) and saying 'he's so boooooooooored' despite the room he can't actually get in because of the new layer of presents, on top of all the other layers of previous presents none of which he ever plays with...

And DS2 is just stir crazy cos he can't play out cos he and his baby brother have been coughing non-stop and the cold makes them worse.

Please god someone warn Childline before I lose the plot.. And pour me a G&T. Oh shit, I'm breastfeeding. G&T at lunchtime probably not a good idea.

No they are too short!
I am one of the unusual ones who actually love having all 4 at home!

Too short. Just as everyone is getting used to each other they are whisked away again.

dooley1 · 06/01/2008 11:55

I think I would go out anyway. Wrap them up really warm and dose them up with cough medicine. The cold might kill off some of the germs.

discoverlife · 06/01/2008 11:55

I am starting Home Ed and looking forward to it. So I guess I'm the weirdy here.

MrsWeasley · 06/01/2008 11:56

I'm with Tortoise on this one. They are all way to short.

I would honestly like atleast another couple of weeks. (and I saw this for every school holiday)

needmorecoffee · 06/01/2008 12:01

too short. Mind you, I home ed most of them. And I hate dd going to school (she's 3 bu dh insists on it to get a break as she's severely disabled and goes to the SN school 2 morns a week)

Monkeybird · 06/01/2008 12:01

oh god. you're all so kind and virtuous and are no doubt baking things while sat on MN...

I'd better go hide in the official grumpy mummy cupboard...

Errr....well it was with a colective sigh of relief that mine went back last Thursday.

How can the holidays be too short? There is barely a month when they aren't out of school for a break. Looking at 2008 the Easter/half term thing is barmy.

137wallis · 06/01/2008 12:12

no its not just you monkeybird! I've had enough of the kids saying i'm bored even though my house looks like toysrus! and yes theyve been out side for 2 hrs this morning already! and everywhere looking like a hurricane has blown through even though i've spent the last 2 weeks tidying, don't get me wrong I love the 6 week hols but 2 weeks is rubbish, they don't get past the i'm bored/ he keeps hitting me stage until week 3!

moljam · 06/01/2008 12:15

i think xmas holidays should be week longer and summer holidays week shorter.im enjoying these holidays ,yes theyve not been perfect whole way through but theyre children and were enjying each others company!plus when dd and ds1 go back tomorrow,ds2 will lose his playmates and have boring old mummy!

that isnt to say i wasnt sat here in summer saying dc are driving me mad

MrsWeasley · 06/01/2008 12:16

But I love spending time with my DCs. When they go to school and do afterschool activities it doesnt leave a lot of time for baking cookies, reading, playing games, building tents and camps(DS currently favourite activity) going for long walks and finding lots of "treasure" (sticks, stones, leaves etc )

On a good note I just booked a summer holiday in scrumptious Weymouth and can't wait to see what "treasure" we come accross there!

TsarChasm · 06/01/2008 12:16

It's easier in the summer (if the weather is nice). When it's warm you can put up the padding pool etc. Everything seems easier.

This time of year even popping out is a great to-do with hats and boots and gloves. Then they get cold and want to go in again.

Beetrootoyourself · 06/01/2008 12:17

I love school holidays and think the state sector holidays are far to short.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/01/2008 12:17

What beetroot said.

SoupDragon · 06/01/2008 12:17

I love school holidays too. The freedom of not having to be somewhere at a specified time...

KatyMac · 06/01/2008 12:18

Well i really like the idea of 2 weeks off every 6 weeks at school that our council proposed - but nothing ever came of it

TsarChasm · 06/01/2008 12:18

Weymouth is a lovely place for a family holiday. We've been loads of times and we always have wonderful weather and lots of fun

MrsWeasley · 06/01/2008 12:21

TsarChasm: We are BIG Weymouth Fans here. I first went on holiday there when I was a teenager and I now take my DCs. We dont always stay there (Some years its just a day trip).

geekgirl · 06/01/2008 12:21

well monkybird, I shall join you in the 'far too bloody long!!!!' camp [tearing hair out]

only 20 hours 20 minutes to go

ThreeBluecubs · 06/01/2008 12:36

Nope, I love the holidays. Our children are far better behaved when we don't spend the entire time having to be somewhere five minutes ago - the term time is far too busy.

they are too short - this one has flown by!

miobombino · 06/01/2008 12:50

well I love the long summer break but a total of 4 wks off in the winter is TOO LONG.

One of mine is back tomorrow, one on Tues and the other 2 on Thursday. can't wait for a swim and time alone for a bit.
