To worry about this heart rate?

I am anaemic and not particularly fit. I have a bmi of 28 and am trying to lose weight. I wear an Apple Watch and when I’m running my heart rate shoots up. Today it reached a max of 210 bpm. The Apple Watch doesn’t go higher. I felt awful and had to stop. It’s only running when this happens. DH thinks I should get checked out. I feel fine. What do you think.

The 100 bpm is resting. I know because mines only kept in check with medication.

Try measuring it manually and comparing the accuracy. Measure it for 30 seconds and double it. Then compare the accuracy.

I would try and get and ecg, blood test and bp at the GP though.

You are exercising at too high intemsity, and your heart is having to compensate, due to your anaemia. That's obviously a lot of stress on your heart. I'd get checked out, and 🤞you just need to decrease intensity for now. Hopefully they will repeat bloods. I wouldn't be running at all until I had medical advice, if I was you.

FabFitFifties · 26/03/2022 13:15

Intensity - I haven't got my glasses on.

FabFitFifties · 26/03/2022 13:16

and obviously - off to the opticians I think 🙄

This isn’t a “can I have time off for a medical appointment?” situation, it’s a “I need time off for a medical appointment, does Monday or Tuesday work best for you?” scenario.

@Atypicaldancer

Sorry - the GP suggested an ECG and blood test but haven’t been able to get the time off work to go.
What apple watch do you have?

I know some have the ECG function but not sure of accuracy.

Atypicaldancer · 27/03/2022 15:52

I’m a teacher and we have so many staff off with covid at the moment, work are really reluctant to let me go.

My DH has the latest Apple Watch and I did the ECG on there and it was fine.

Absolutely this. I’m a teacher and if I said ‘Look, after a quick chat the GP is concerned about my heart and needs to see me.” there would be no hesitation in me being allowed to make an appointment at any time that was convenient for me.

Your school will be in an even worse position if you don’t get seen!

We get regular emails from patients with their Apple Watch readings who are in a panic.

Often strange readings occur when multiple people are using the watch.

Contact your Gp, they will likely arrange an ECG to be on the safe side. Obviously in the meantime any palpitations, fluttering, SOB or chest pain you should contact 111/999 accordingly as some are red flag symptoms.

Atypicaldancer · 27/03/2022 17:11

Only I use that watch.

I have palpitations regularly.

You need to contact your Gap then for sure.
